Mighty Matt is an amazing human, who has stage 4 cancer. Let’s show him love, support & humor!! To know Mighty Matt, is to love him!
He loves to see what you have to say, and engage with you all!!!!!! He is a huge teddy bear with a growly face, but he is the first to give help when needed. He is an amazing human, and I feel like we could all learn just a tiny bit from him, even on his grumpiest of days. He was very unexpectedly diagnosed with stage 4 uncurable cancer just before Thanksgiving 2021. I (Dixee, his partner in crime
We have made a public group so that ya'll can post for MightyMatt, we would love to see you there!

Hello! 👋
As we grow up and mature in life, we learn all kinds of challenges, lessons, trials, expiriences, tricks, etc...
We learn that sometimes life surprises us and brings unexpected happiness and joy. It can also bring very unexpected heartbreak and sorrow.
Since MightyMatt's cancer diagnosis, I have felt so many mixed emotions but there has always been a deep anger in the pit of my soul....and so many feelings of "why him, he is such a good human who didn't deserve this!"
Seeing this quote reminds me that, I have to continue reminding myself to just my focus and energy from the anger and sadness; to being happy and grateful for each day and moment we have! ❤️
Friends, today with those you love. We truly never know what tomorrow will bring; let go of the past, let go of grudges, let go of unanswered questions, let go of things that aren't serving you, let go of things that are done.

16 years ago we brought this handsome little Mini Matt into the world! Happy Birthday Roman, you are such a miracle and the best gift ever! We love you so much!!!💚

Once again, it has been an eternity since I have made an update.
MightyMatt has been holding steady. 💚 He has pulled thru the worst of the winter germ season without any major, scary sicknesses! That is very exciting!
He is still very exhausted 95% of the time and the remaining 5% of the time he runs out of steam pretty quickly. However, he still gives his all to everything that he does, with a smile on his handsome face 😃 He is such a courageous warrior 💚
Our beautiful little premature, garden gnome baby--who clearly isn't a baby anymore is turning 16 (YES, I said SIXTEEN!!!) on 3/21. While I can ecstatic because he has literally beat the odds of survival on more than one occasion; my Mama heart is sad that this beautiful soul is growing up so fast!
And can someone please tell me, whyyyy does he stillllll look exactly like his Daddy!?! At what age will he look like me??? I mean, it has been 16 years 🤷♀️
Last night, we had the scare of our lives! On the positive side, we are all okay and safe. Somehow a resuable plastic box bag (if you aren't from our area, we use reusable bags at groceries here) caught fire on the stove yesterday. Not just a little smolder--I am talking jumping flames up over the hood microwave in a matter of less than 20 seconds from the time I noticed a faint smoke scent. And no, the stove hadn't been on all day, at all--so we are extremely confused on how this happened. However, as I ran into the kitchen and saw the flames jumping, I began screaming for Matt because it was past anything I could do and flames were spreading quickly. Poor Roman was very traumatized and I yelled at him to RUN GET DAD NOW!! Matt was outside wiping the interior of his pickup down. Thank the stars he was home!!🙏 He came running in and grabbed the bag that was damn near completely engulfed in flames and a towel that had caught fire, and flew thru the slider onto the cement patio and turned the spigot on. Thankfully it put the fire out and we got water on the melting plastic on the stove to stop the remaining smoldering fire.
In the fire, the new Migration blue ray/dvd/digital combo Roman wanted for his birthday that we literally just got home from purchasing at Target got melted beyond saving 🥲 It was on the counter next to the stove, as was a few other things: my new jar of minced garlic, a new wide tooth comb and some hair ties. All replaceable, our lives and the dogs wouldn't have been!
I am so incredibly grateful Matt was home and came in and once again was my super hero!!!! I was trying to figure out in my panicked brain how to hold the bag that was on fire and get the stick out of the slider and not catch anything else on fire, to get it out to the patio before he got in here--and not catch myself on fire as I was wearing an oversized sweatshirt. Gahhhhhh All while trying not to traumatize our child anymore than he already was 🥲
What a great way to start his birthday week!
Please keep MightyMatt in your thoughts and prayers, he has chemo the last week of the month.
Thank you all for your love and support!!! We appreciate it so much!💚

Tonight is the end of a long year. I am not sad to kiss 2023 goodbye, not at all! It was a mentally challenging and very exhausting year. One that brought a lot of struggle, extreme sadness, so much anxiety and fears that I had no idea I even had.
We lost several people who meant the world to us, this year and I am still heartbroken. Heaven called them home, before anyone was ready to let them go 💔 As humans, we think we have so much time on Earth, but the truth is we never really know when it will be our time to move to Heaven...If this heartbreak and sadness has taught me anything besides extreme anxiety about losing literally everyone I love, it has taught me to cherish every single day and realize what a gift it truly is!
When we wake tomorrow, we begin a whole new chapter! One in which we begin with a completely clean page and can write the chapter how we want it to go. (within reason, of course) We get to decide if we choose to learn and grow from things that that happened in 2023, we get to choose new goals, or maybe readjust our focus--whatever it may be, we get to choose and manifest it to become reality for 2024!
As for me, my main goals in 2024 are:
•hoping for a cure for MightyMatt
•continuing to work on my anger at the universe for giving him cancer
•spending intentional time with Matt; and also with Roman
•reorganizing my small business
•creating time for just me, to unwind
•increase my activity level
•drink more water 🙄
I hope that if you are out and about tonight, that you are safe. If you choose to imbibe, please be sure to have alternate transportation and do not drive.
Cheers to a New Year!!!
We appreciate each of you for loving us, and holding us up thru this journey! You have no idea how much it means to our little family💚
xoxo

🎄 Happy Christmas Eve 🎄
December has been eventful at our house, not just just because of Christmas.
MightyMatt is better from the pneumonia and was successfully able to work 2 full weeks! While this may not seem like a big deal, in our house it is!!! As I have said before he hates to miss work, and it really affects his mood and mental health when he feels like he is letting his team mates down...not to mention, he genuinely loves his job and the company. Also, the weather has been cold (by PNW standards) with wind and lots of rain, so it brought a bit of nervousness that he may get sick again, but he didn't! YAYYYYYY!!!!!!! He is now on vacation this week💚
Roman ended the last week of school before holiday break, finding out he has been nominated to be "student of the month" for the high school. While he wasn't selected, he was the 3rd runner up out of over 100 kids nominated! Students are nominated by teachers and peers based on how they treat others, how they act in school and a variety of other criteria. It was so heartwarming to read why he was chosen❤️ When he was in the 5th grade, he did win the student of the month for the middle school! It was exciting--he got an official award plaque, a sign in the front yard, a mention in the newspaper and we got to go to the school board meeting that month to see the students chosen to congratulated and receive their awards.
He is happy to be on break for a bit. He likes to hang out with me, and loves to grab a coffee at the drive thru🤣
We celebrated my birthday on 12/20. I did some work and we had a nice, simple dinner and a sweet friend surprised me with a cake for dessert. It was a fabulous day❤️
MightyMatt has had several appts this months for various things, a surgical procedure and his chemo infusion. Out of all of this, a small victory came ⭐️
He was able to stop taking his daily chemo pill!!! This is good news, as hopefully this will help his nausea and he will start to regain some of his energy!!!🤞🤞🤞🤞
Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers, they are working! I am not giving up on my dream of a miracle💚
Don't forget to watch the skies for Santa and his sleigh tonight!
xoxo,
Dixee

Today is chemo day.
MightyMatt has been a bit sore since his procedure on Monday, but pushing thru like the warrior that he is!!
Saturday he has an MRI on his head. I think they may be checking to see if it is rocks between his ears or if there really is a beautiful brain in his noggin 🤣
He has had a rough few months, and is ready to get back to his usual work routine! (don't tell him, but I might be ready for him to get out of my hair for a bit too🤫🤫)
On a positive note: he completed the year of daily chemo pill and is no longer taking it, at this time 🎉 I am excited about this!! 🤞🤞 that in time he will regain some endurance and not be quite so exhausted all of the time. (He does still have to do the chemo infusions)
Thank you to all who have reached out to check on our little family, and sent prayers, good vibes and love!
Thank you to those who have sent or brought gifts; I promise each item is so incredibly appreciated! It is so kind and thoughtful and we are so blessed that you thought of us, thank you!
I got asked this morning for the Amazon wishlist again, it is posted on this page, at the top in the "Featured Posts" section. 💚
Thank you all for the love and support! This journey is rough! We know that without each one of you, it would be a lot tougher on us; you all hold us up and encourage us and love us and pull us thru on the really really hard days. You all are amazing!💚
xoxo

Whew, it was early when we checked in!
MightyMatt is here for a procedure this morning; a painful one 🥲
Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers!
And maybe say a little extra one for Roman, as he is quite anxious about Daddy's procedure. He does NOT like it when Daddy has to do this kind of stuff, and hates to see Daddy in pain🥲
Thank you so much!
xoxo
D
PLEASE keep MightyMatt in your thoughts and prayers. We learned late Thursday afternoon, he is scheduled for a minor surgical procedure on Monday morning 12/4.
It is a very uncomfortable procedure that brings a painful recovery.
He is so brave and strong, and such a warrior!
Please send good vibes and thoughts for him💚

FB Memories from 2 years ago, today-
"Today, was Matt’s first day of Chemo. It was supposed to be 2 consecutive days; today being Day 1 of 2. However, things did not go as planned 😭
The morning started out well! Our son gave Daddy lots of hugs and love, and promised to be good while hanging with Uncle Fern while we had an early oncology appt prior to chemo.
Appt was fine. Chemo infusion started well, as you can see in the photo. They got the port connected easily and got the “pre-medication” to help prevent upset stomach and allergic reaction done easily. Step 1 of chemo went well without issue, and fluids were ran without issue…and this is where it all went to hell 😭
Step 2, a BIG bag of chemo was connected and had to run slow because it was his first time the nurse said. She assured us all would be just fine, but sometimes people have minor side effects—like headaches, nausea, etc. Wellllllll, our buddy here had other ideas.
Within 7 minutes of Step 2, he had allergic reaction. His trouble breathing, blood pressure dropped, O2 went down but wasn’t horrible, his legs started cramping and he didn’t feel so well. Pharmacist, nurses all came rushing over to help. Gave him a slew of meds to help and oncologist came to talk to us. They waited about 45 mins after the meds, upon the oncologists order and tried again.
Within less than 5 minutes, he had a horrific and very scary anaphylactic reaction! He was all of a sudden bluish, very hard to breathe, tremoring so horribly I was sure he was going to throw his body to the floor and all the monitors were alarming with low blood pressure, high heart rate, and his O2 was dropping quickly. Nurses came rushing! Oxygen was on his face in a matter of seconds, meds were going into his port and the oncologist came running!
It turns out Matt is not able to take this chemo as he is anaphylactically allergic to it 😭 The oncologist (who I must say, we are so thankful for!) is stressed, as he isn’t sure what we can do for treatment now. He will be consulting with some other oncologists to see what has been successful and he will build a new treatment plan.
Long story short: Matt can use all the prayers, love, good vibes, or whatever you may have in his corner!
My heart is hurting and i am feeling defeated; it was damn scary to see him like that today! But I am so freaking thankful to all the nurses, MAs, pharmacists, the oncologist and everyone else who was there and helped to make sure he stayed breathing!
Never forget how precious life truly is and please promise to never take it for granted."
11•28•23
MightyMatt is finally getting to enjoy one of the things he has always wanted to do! He is at a concert tonight, but not just any concert--Depeche Mode!💚
He is finally, finally starting to feel better!🙏 The pneumonia has been rough for him. I am still very surprised that he was not admitted to the hospital, thru this ordeal! In the end, I am so very relieved that he is finally feeling a bit better!
He returned to work this week. He gets worn out so very easily, and that frustrates him. But, as the oncologist said: it is going to take time, to get back to where he was before the pneumonia, it isn't something that will happen overnight.
Please keep him in your thoughts and 🙏s that he can continue to fight the germs and heal!
December is a big and busy month!
1st week he has chemo infusion and an MRI or his neck and head.
2nd week a dr appt
12/20: my happy birthday, I will be 29😍
Then of course Christmas, Roman is VERY excited for!
And the last week, he has a CT scan on his lungs.
Thank you for your love and support!💚
I took this excerpt from his page:
"With Fernando and My older brother Michael been waiting a long time for this and very thankful I am finally over being sick 😷 I was getting worried 😟 that I would not make it to this show. But I still get wore down easy but have to take it little slow and rest."
11•21•23 Update, the short version
MightyMatt fortunately was not admitted to the hospital, as we were told they are very low on beds and as long as he stayed home and his oxygen levels stay in the safe range he was okay enough to be home. In total we/he was at the hospital for over 8 hours, while they did routine labs, ran a dose of antibiotics thru his port, xray and then a CT scan.
His pneumonia did spread some, in 4 days between x rays, which was discouraging.
His pneumonia is bacterial, meaning non-contagious but due to the cancer, in his situation it is harder to fight.
It is so hard to watch him become so winded just from doing something we take for granted, line walking from the living room to the restroom or walking from the front door to the driveway to get into the car to go to the dr 😭😭
We had to cancel hosting Thanksgiving, and he wasn't too thrilled about that. But his health is much more important than a turkey!
Please keep him in your thoughts and send good vibes, as he is still feeling yucky and fighting this nastiness!
A few have asked for ideas to help, I have posted below.
Thank you for all of the love and support, we appreciate it so much!💚💚💚

Help for Matthiesen family, organized by Brooke Richardson Hi, my name is Brooke and I am fundraising for an amazing family. This is Dixie, Matt an… Brooke Richardson needs your support for Help for Matthiesen family

MightyMatt has pneumonia 😭😭
He has been on medication for it, for a couple of days, but it isn't showing great progress.
Today, the dr will decide if he needs to be admitted to the hospital.
Please send him all the good thoughts, good vibes, healing wishes, etc that you can spare!!! He could really use them!💚
He is feeling pretty blue lately. He hates being sick and even more, hates not being able to be a part of the team at work! Please feel free to comment something to help lift his spirits!
11-07-23 Update
Well, as always, I have fallen off 😬
I'm gonna try to make this a quick post today...
•MightyMatt was finally able to return to work, after battling the cellulitis turned infection back to cellulitis ordeal, after 6 weeks. It was on top of his foot, like along the top part between the toes and where your calf meets the foot. His foot was sooooo inflamed and swollen and hot, I felt so awful for him! He followed all of the instructions given by the medical team, and it seemed no matter what was done, it just wouldn't budge. It finally got better enough that he could return to work, thankfully! He was ready to escape confinement to the house and medical appts!!!
•As luck would have it, he was back at work for about 1.5 weeks and got sick. A tummy type virus, I think, but it passed without being a huge ordeal thankfully.
•He currently has a cold, but it seems to be just staying that. 🤞🤞
•We see oncology and cardiology next week. Routine oncology monthly visit and cardiology is to follow up on a few things.
Roman is doing good. Still thriving in school and loving his 10th grade year!
He is VERY excited that it is Santa season soon, and has a list already!
I'm over here, stressed like usual trying to remember to put 1 foot in front of the other. Still dealing with my ongoing health issues, not so sure that they will really improve anymore at this point 😕
Thank you all for the love and support, it does truly make a huge difference!!!!💚 Dixee

Hello 👋
It's me again, late to the update game...I think by now if I actually made it on time, someone would wonder if it were truly me🤣
MightyMatt is hanging in. He has had a helluva time with this bout of cellulitis in his the top of his foot that then turned into an infection. It has been red, swollen and painful for over 5 weeks.
He has had to stay home from work thru all of this, and if you know him, you know this absolutely devestates him!!!! He LOVES what he does, and where he works!!!!
At this point, it HAS gotten better!!! It took multiple rounds of high dose oral antibiotics, IM injection antibiotics, steroids, a diuretic to try to help get the fluid to move off of the top of his foot and w whole lot of elevating that bad boy! Oh, and a lot of sad faces from MightyMatt and a few cuss words--but the good news is that the handsome devil seems to be on the mend 😃😃😃
Tomorrow, 10/12 is chemo infusion day mixed with a slew of other appts while there followed by a scan to check in to see how the cancer is doing in his body. Going to be a VERY long, emotionally heavy day.
Please throw out good vibes into the universe that the scans come back without any new cancer, or pray or send good juju.
Please also consider sending good vibes or prayers that he tolerated the chemo well and that it doesn't totally wear him down due to this long going cellulitis mess.
A few have asked me how they can help, I am always put on the spot and clam up and don't know what to say 😕
Aside from our monetary fundraising links posted at the top of the page, we have our Amazon Wishlist and every single item on there is a huge help to our family!
https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/20M6K3X1J6P6N?ref_=wl_share
Thank you all for your love and support thru this journey! I have found myself feeling quite down and sad as of late, and I'm so grateful for all who have checked on me, it means so much!💜

Well...hell. It's been a week, and it is only Tuesday!
MightyMatt has been struggling with bad cellulitis for the past few weeks. He went back to work yesterday morning and was so excited to finally leave the house! Sadly, he came home a few hours later🥲 His foot was very angry and even more swollen, the dr wanted him home and foot elevated asap!
Saw dr this morning, and we are currently at a local hospital (outpatient!!) waiting for X rays. And he will start yet another round of strong, high dose antibiotics and pray it helps this awfulness go away!!!🤞🤞
Roman has been home sick the past few days. He has a nasty cold and is feeling miserable as heck 🥲
As for me--well, I am wondering why I don't have a coffee drive thru on my front drive way! I'm exhausted 😖😖
Please keep MightyMatt in your thoughts, and send good vibes that he heals and can go back to work. At this point, he can't even bear weight on the foot.
As mentioned before, it is September which brings Lymphoma Awareness💚 In an effort to fundraise, I have our payment things posted and website to get some cool MightyMatt merch!
Thank you so much for all of your love and support! This journey is a rough one, and we are able to be kind of strong because of all of you and your love. 💚💚💚💚

MightyMatt hasn't had such a great September this far 😞
It was our 16th anniversary a couple days ago, time has truly flown by so fast!
He hasn't been able to walk since Sunday. He is able to sort of hobble to the restroom and back to his chair, to elevate his feet. He has a "severe cellulitis" that super suddenly appeared on Sunday morning.
It has been an insanely busy week, full of dr and oncology appts. Hoping that MightyMatt gets some relief soon! He got 2 shots this afternoon of a strong antibiotic, to go with the antibiotic he has been on since Monday.
Please look at the posts below this one--September is Lymphoma Awareness, and I am trying to fundraise to help accomplish a few things for him/to help.💚
Please send positive vibes, healing thoughts or prayers that he heals well and soon! He is a cranky pants when he has to stay home!
Did you know that MightyMatt has his own merch!?! Proceeds go to his fundraising💚
https://pixeedixeedesigns.com/product-category/fighting4mightymatt/
September is Lymphoma Awareness Month.
As I mentioned in a previous post, I am trying hard to do some fundraising to help us accomplish a few very important things. It has never been easy for me/us to ask for help, and this isn't any different...
I am asking, please consider contributing. If you don't want to or can't, it's okay. Please please please share this post on your social media--social media is so powerful!
I am working to fundraise for the following:
💚Matt's buddy's gave him a motorized scooter that would be great for him to use when he needs it, for example if we went to the beach, or as his cancer progresses. It however needs a tune up and a part replaced, aside from that it is in excellent condition and it the correct fit for him. Fundraising will help to get this fixed for him.
💚Fundraising will help get us started in preparation for 2024 co pays and prescriptions for him. We are extremely grateful that he has insurance! However, the copays quickly add up in a 1 income household. (I do have a small business, but can't count on it as inflation has really impacted sales)
💚As you can imagine our finances are very tight. We do not live a frivolous or flashy lifestyle. I would love to be able to travel to my home state either for Thanksgiving or the week between Xmas/New Years, so our son can get to spend a bit of time with my family.
💚And because I have big dreams, I would love to be able to catch up on groceries and things like laundry soap and toilet paper--
Thank you for reading this. We appreciate each and every one of you!
PLEASE share this on your social media channels!🙏💚

Quick Update---
Late as always...life just keeps knocking me down and getting busy and I have the best of intentions, but somehow I need more than 24 hours in a day🥹
MightyMatt and I had an absolutely amazingly epic date night this past Friday evening! It was our first night out, in 2 (T W O) years 😱 We went to see Jelly Roll and Eric Church in concert. It was magnificent!!!! Thank you to every single person, who had a part in helping this happen! You can't possibly imagine what it meant to MightyMatt and I! It was a bucket list thing, for him, to see Jelly Roll---and to be able to witness him enjoying that concert will forever be saved in my mind!💚 We had seen Eric Church before, it was nice to see him again. Truly, to us, Jelly Roll was the star of the show!⭐️
Sadly, I woke up to some devestating news on Saturday. Someone I was close to and loved very much became an Angel 😭😭 Shortly after that phone call, I learned one of the very first people I met after moving back to WA also went to Heaven--she will be one of the most beautiful Angels there ever could be! She was such a beautiful soul! My heart is completely shattered for her family💔
My heart is broken, and I am so incredibly sad with these losses. I know we can't live forever, but I don't know why going to Heaven has to hurt those left behind, so bad.
Sunday, MightyMatt woke up not feeling so great. In a lot of pain in his foot, it progressively became swollen thru the day and warm to the touch. I knew where this was leading 🤨
After a night of barely any sleep, the Big Guy hobbled down and I was so thankful he did not go to work this morning. His darn foot was worse than yesterday, and I immediately contacted our dr rather than wait a day or two. Sure enough, cellulitis...😫😫😫 High dose antibiotics and elevate, elevate, elevate....
September is Lymphoma Awareness Month. I will be posting tomorrow, a couple of links, for fundraising. My goal is to try to accomplish a couple of things:
•Matt's buddy's gave him a motorized scooter that would be great for him to use when he needs it, for example if we went to the beach, or as his cancer progresses. It however needs a tune up and a part replaced, aside from that it is in excellent condition and it the correct fit for him. Fundraising will help to get this fixed for him.
•Fundraising will help get us started in preparation for 2024 co pay and prescriptions for him. We are extremely grateful that he has insurance! However, some of his medications are expensive and co pays add up in a single income household. (We can't depend on my small business as it is hit or miss)
•Fundraising will help with household expenses, gas and groceries.
•And lastly, I know these are big fundraising goals, should there be enough raised, it would be used to help pay for us to drive back to my home state and see my family for a few days between Christmas and New Year. 🤞
Thank you to all who have check on us, sent well wishes and prayers. It means the world to us!!!❤️

8•21•23 Update
As always, I am late to update. I apologize, I know, it is a cycle 🫢 I am trying to do better, but the truth is sometimes life happens and sometimes, my emotions happen and I avoid it all.
MightyMatt is a freakin' warrior yall!!! This last week, has been a humdinger for him, and he blazed thru it and all it had in store with the smile that melted my heart all those years ago, and still does today!
This past week brought several appts. Some planned and a couple not planned in advance, but that we were able to work in while he had a day off.
He had a very full day on Thursday! Labs, oncology appt and then his chemo infusion. As soon as his infusion was complete, he had an an
MRI. By the time we finally got home at dinner time, he was wiped out!
Friday, was another busy day of appts we didn't expect but that were necessary. More testing.
He has been feeling decent overall, but the heat definately doesn't help his nausea! Poor dude! Some day, maybe there will be a medication to cure nausea.
September is his specific cancer awareness month. I will be doing some fundraising to try to help raise funds for some things for MightyMatt 😎
Thank you all for the love and support you give us! This journey is rough and stressful, we appreciate knowing you all are here to hold us up and love us💚
I have updated the Amazon wishlist recently.

I haven't updated in a few weeks, I promise I will.
But right now, I'm coming to you all, to show you the whole reason I made this page.
MightyMatt is struggling! I just took a photo from his personal page of what he posted literally less than 1 hour ago.
My goal for this page was to be a place of support, encouragement, humor, inspiration, and anything people felt like sharing with him...and some sharing of our our Amazon Wishlist.
I'm still trying to figure out why the page isn't letting people post to the page, as the settings are all correct for it to happen.
He reads all the comments, and they do all cheer him up! Even if you comment more than once on the same post, he sees them❤️
PLEASE help me, encourage him and lift his spirits! Not only is he feeling these big emotions, but things that he could tolerate, aren't working all of a sudden (again) and things don't taste like he remembers them, thanks to taste buds changing. It's a lot all at once!
MightyMatt really needs some love and support!
If you prefer to send a card in the mail, you can do that also. I have the box rental thru this month, the address is pinned to the top of the page if you need it.
Thank you all!
