Today, the Bank of Canada announced another decrease in its key policy rate. This quarter of a percentage point reduction is the third consecutive reduction since June 5th bringing the rate to 4.25%.

This decision is made despite economic growth coming in stronger than the Bank of Canada expected in the second quarter at an annualized rate of 2.1 per cent for that last quarter. This growth is seen as being largely driven by government spending, rather than a broad-based increase in activity. As wages rise and inflation cools, we anticipate a more dynamic housing market in Q4.
