Why do we like to have media teams when individual photographer have been able to cover events by themselves in the past? 🤔
I’m so glad you asked! First off, “that’s the way we’ve always done it” is so 2019 — it’s ok to change it up! Second, having a second media team member allows the workload to be shared between both people, which is super helpful when you’re talking about a 10-12 hour day on your feet and literally thousands of large, high quality photo files. 😵‍💫 It also means that event organizers can expect more engagement on social media and a quicker turnaround time for final images! 🤩

But seriously, these little greens bands may be small, but they are definitely essential workers 💚
Every athlete who registers for photos with us gets one of these bright green wristbands prior to their first event for easy identification on the competition floor. We use them to identify who we should be focusing on, so if you paid for photos — you NEED to have one of these visible on your body whenever you want photos taken of you (which is usually all the time).
Sometimes they get covered up by wristbands or accidentally ripped off, so if that happens, we can always supply an extra or two 😎

Say hello to Genevieve (aka ) 👋

Genevieve is joining us as our inaugural intern! It's like a normal intern, but cooler 😎

As she joins lead photographers on site, she will learn the ins and outs of photographing competitive events, running the check-in table, and athlete control. This paid position gives beginners a chance to test the waters and learn on the floor -- while also being a part of the admin work (read: contracts, negotiations, spreadsheets, etc.) that takes place before and after events. We like the security of adding to our team ( ), and she gets to dive deeper into a passion she already has!

Whether it’s a lifting PR or a raise at work, it almost never hurts to TRY. C&Co was founded on the idea that everyone offers value and deserves to be honored for that. We strive to offer top notch services for event organizers and attendees, connections for media professionals, and transparency in the fitness media industry.
Being at an event for 10+ hrs and getting $300 may seem like great pay ($30/hr) BUT it doesn’t factor in culling, editing, social media promotion, gallery administration/delivery — oh and that’s not even considering the hours spent learning how to use the camera to get those BA shots in the first place 🤪

Behind-the-scenes: This comp was set up as a photo package system where teams opted in to photographic coverage and were given wristbands to help us keep track of them on the competition floor (they move quick, man!). Because we were able to focus our efforts on the teams who actually WANTED photos instead of exhausting ourselves trying to get shots of every athlete in every heat, we were able to provide a high quality event day experience and get the final gallery of 3,413 photos delivered in less than two weeks. Each team paid $40, which boiled down to $5 per athlete per day. The host gym also paid to cover commercial usage of ALL photos taken allowing them to use any photo on any of their social media platforms.
