BEHIND THE SCENES

Today our very own Andrea gave a wonderful presentation to the parents of western primary school.

Andrea talked us through the importance of sleep and how everything you do during the day impacts your sleep. She didn’t only tell us the science but she gave out examples on how you can help yourself and your child sleep better. She showed us how to calm down our nervous system by breathing and getting rid of all tension in our bodies.

Our very own Kate gave an amazing example called the worry worm. Where you have a piece of string then every time your child mentions a worry you pop a bead on. Then as the discussion went on we created the wonder worm where you list all of the good things that has happened in your day at night and that will calm your brain down for a quality night of sleep.

Thank you for everyone who attended today and If you are interested in attending one of our sessions. Give us a dm on here or email us at [email protected]

0-7 year old's brain is like a sponge, it absorbs how the world works from the people around them, especially primary caregivers.

How a parent or carer behaves, what they say, how safe they make a young child feel influences the way they think about themselves and the world.

I've just putting the finishing touch to this workshop for The Little Gym Europe & UK.

If you are a parent of a baby or young child don't wait until they are older to find out now how you can help your child feel safe and develop a resilient nervous system and brain that will serve them now and far into the future.

Teach your children how to think, not what to think.
We've all experienced those moments of I've reached the end of my tether parenting when we resort to bribery.
"You can have chocolate if you stop crying."
"If you brush your teeth right now, I'll read you four bedtime stories."
But children raised in a barter-or-bribe economy don't develop the strong autonomous self that can create distance between real desires and preprogrammed responses-and it makes no difference whether the responses are rebellious or compliant.
Encouraging autonomy helps children to develop a set of values that is their own, separate from rewards.

Are you or your child feeling anxious?

Around half of all lifetime mental health problems start by the mid-teens, and three-quarters by the mid-20s

Anxiety is a natural state where the brain becomes over protective.

When anxious feelings and behaviours are not understood and managed they can lead to more lasting difficulties

Parent Smart Learning have created a half day workshops to help parents understand and manage anxiety.

Early intervention is so important, neuroplasticity and Polyvagal theory allows us to understand and change neural pathways in the brain and body.

Follow the link below to book on the course on 17th June at Harrogate College or contact me if you would like this course delivered at your organisation.

https://www.parentsmartlearning.org/event-details/feeling-anxious-learn-about-anxiety-and-how-to-manage-it

Here are some examples of how anxiety shoes up in young people.

*Being very afraid when away from parents (separation anxiety)

*Having extreme fear about a specific thing or situation, such as dogs, insects, or going to the doctor ( )

*Being very afraid of school and other places where there are people ( )

*Being very worried about the future and about bad things happening ( )

*Having repeated episodes of sudden, unexpected, intense fear that come with symptoms like heart pounding, having trouble breathing, or feeling dizzy, shaky, or sweaty ( )

Anxiety may present as fear or worry, but can also make children irritable and angry. Anxiety symptoms can also include trouble sleeping, as well as physical symptoms like fatigue, headaches, or stomachaches. Some anxious children keep their worries to themselves and, thus, the symptoms can be missed.

The earlier you understand anxiety and behaviour the sooner you can make changes that protect your child from mental health challenges in the future.
