This world is full of misery and pain; destruction and chaos; shame and suffering; sin, sickness, sorrow and death. Advent is a reminder that Jesus, the Messiah came into this world for a time such as this. Jesus said, “Even though I am torn within, and my soul is in turmoil, I will not ask the Father to rescue me from this hour of trial. For I have come to fulfill my purpose to offer myself to God - for humanity.” (Passion Bible Translation) In this season of Advent, may we allow Jesus to flood our hearts with His love, peace, mercy and grace!

Frightening circumstances are less troublesome if we trust the hands that control them. God’s all-powerful hands control the universe, so we have nothing to fear. God is wise and compassionate and our lives are in his hands. So in spite of the unpredictable and often troubling circumstances of life, we can rest in the safety and comfort of his loving hands. We have nothing to fear.

Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust him and not be afraid. Isaiah 12: 2

On June 19, 1805, over two years after President Abraham Lincoln had signed the 'Emancipation Proclamation' giving freedom to the slaves in America, General Gordon Granger rode into Galveston, Texas and read General Order Number 3: "The people of Texas are informed that in accordance with a Proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free." For the first time, slaves in Texas learned that they were already free. Actually they had been freed two years prior, but they didn't know it. That day, the shocked but thankful slaves celebrated their freedom, and June 19 became known as "Juneteenth." On Thursday, June 17, 2021 President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law, officially making June 19 a federal holiday. In Luke 4: 18, Jesus proclaimed that he came to bring 'good news to the poor and to set the captives free.' That means all of humanity, including you and me! Regardless of the color of our skin, our race, nationality or ethnicity we were all held in bo***ge by Satan as slaves to sin. But God who is rich in love and mercy, issued us his 'Proclamation of Freedom.' This proclamation is not signed with a man-made pen dipped in flawed, manufactured ink. No! No! No! This proclamation is signed with God's own eternal finger, dipped in the pure and precious blood of his Beloved Son, Jesus Christ. So today and every day, we can jubilantly celebrate the fact that we are Free! Free! Free! For those whom the SON has set free is free indeed! Praise God!

And now you celebrate your freedom from your former master - sin. You have left its bo***ge, and now God's perfect righteousness holds power over you as his loving servants. (Romans 6: 8 TPT - The Passion Translation)

An Inspirational Thought

I read that in May 2006, a man decided to make a third attempt to climb Mount Everest. He was finally able to reach the summit, but on his way back down he ran out of oxygen. As he was laying on the side of the mountain dying, 40 climbers passed by him, but none of them stopped to help the dying man. As I read this, it reminded me of the parable of the Good Samaritan that Jesus told in Luke 10, in which a Jewish traveler was attacked and beaten, stripped of his clothing and left half-dead along the side of the road. Both a priest and a Levite, who were both Jews, saw him laying there but chose to pass him by, going as far as crossing over to the other side of the road. Finally, a Samaritan, who by the way, was despised by the Jews came to his rescue.
Unfortunately, there was no Good Samaritan for the man who laid dying on the side of Mount Everest. I wonder what would have happened if someone who passed by that stricken climber had said, "I will treat him the way I want to be treated."
I also wonder, "How many sick, homeless, hungry, dying people you and I pass by without offering even a cup of cold water in Jesus' name?"
Jesus said, "Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it for me." (Matthew 25: 40)

It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation (1 Peter 1: 3 NLT). This gives us the confidence that nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the ‘Love of God’ that is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8: 38-39 NLT). 2021 may have come in like a flood with the Covid-19 Pandemic raging all around us, and chaos in the Capitol of our Nation with rioters storming the Halls of Congress.
We may sometimes be separated by political and ideological differences, but the steadfast ‘Love of God’ keeps us in a bond of unity and peace. May we always brightly shine with the ‘Love of God’ in the face of every troubling and challenging situation, as God’s light to the world around us!

The Bible teaches that we must always be prepared to tell others what we believe and to give a reason for the hope we have in God. This is important because what we believe to be true will impact the way in which we live. It will also make it difficult for us to be swayed by every false teaching with which we are confronted. So today, I will reflect on the basis of my hope in God. I believe …..
• That God is Holy, Loving, All-powerful, All-knowing, Ever-
present, Infinite and Eternal
• That he is the Creator, Preserver, King and Judge of all
persons and things
• That he is one God with a tri-personal existence, Father,
Son and Holy Spirit

It is because of what I believe that I live with hope, looking forward to the return of Jesus, who will glorify me and present me perfect before the throne of his Father. And I will live with him forever. I pray that this hope is also yours.

Dear friends, see how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!
