Creepy Sloth

I haven't posted any new designs this week because I've been moving from one room to another. Since we moved here in November 2021, I've occupied two different office spaces. One is the weird cubby space above the utility room, it's not a room it's just an overhang next to the stairs from a badly designed extension. Then I moved into the spare room where Oliver has his desk, and his guitars. Needless to say it was cramped. Last week I decided the sunroom was mine. No more "it's a gaming room" that is never used. I'm useless at DIY but I've put up some shelves and now I can start moving everything downstairs. I am EXHAUSTED

Chonks is looking handsome today. Also quite menacing, unfortunately he has resting cat face despite being incredibly affectionate and needy he looks like he's plotting to kill you!

Made this to amuse Joshua, although thinking about it he'd proper prefer an Apex Legends themed Mother's Day mug. Except, I'd be the one using it not him.

For all those Stephen King fans, Misery was the first one I read in my teens and I still cannot keep reading when she comes at him with a sledgehammer. I swear I can feel it!

Waiting for some new sublimation paper to arrive today, the stuff I have isn't full size so it's good for mugs without a background but I'm unable to do a full top to bottom wrap. I've ordered A4 sheets so I'll need to cut them to size and proper waste a bit of paper but excited to give it a go.

Sneaky peek of next mug design. Came upstairs to go to bed and thought, hmm maybe I should sit down at the PC for 5 minutes. It has now been an hour.....

I ended up having to change the design slightly, because the little tiny lines of the stars kept bleeding in to each other. I also had to resize the wording, because the letters were too thin, so the first time it was painted and sealed, it ended up saying something entirely different. But she's done, it's only taken me.....many hours!

Just needs to cure, then a thin coat of sealant. Don't want to add a thick coat because you don't want the mat to be rock hard. The paint is weatherproof but you shouldn't leave a coir matt outside standing in water. I actually have one outside right now and I am tracking the time it takes to go from Hero to Zero.

It's coming together bit by bit. It's a very finicky template this one. I understand why the big manufacturers use UV printers! The only thing with UV printers is the paint isn't long lasting, the paint I use is designed to seal roofs

Let me tell you about .icc profiles.

When you're printing for sublimation, you have to make sure your printer is set up correctly and your colour management is right.

Different printers and different software combinations result in different prints. The one on the right (looks faded, its just light glare) is set up with a correct .icc profile and rendering through photoshop.

The actual image has no background so nothing should be printed where the image is white, printer's can't print white. The one on the left kept printing with a beige background, which you couldn't see on the paper unless you looked closely. This is because the colour profile wasn't set up correctly, and what you see on the monitor is never what prints. That goes for all types of printing.

It has taken me several hours but I finally have the right combination...unfortunately I have about 5 attempts to get it right, which means 5 lots of imperfect mugs that need a new home!

Meet Chonky. Well he WAS called Chonky. He is now called Atlas.

Last June I lost my beloved Nero, he was hit by a car and died outside my house. A couple of weeks after that, a woman reported in a local Facebook group for cats that she had taken a stray cat in who kept getting attacked by tomcats. She had no transport to take him to the vet so I offered. Drove to her house and met this proper hench chonky boy. He was very timid. Drove him to the vets and essentially he wasn't chipped, they couldn't hold him so he lived in my bathroom for two weeks whilst I waited for a space to come up at the local rescue. My partner said we couldn't name him because if we did I'd never let him go. So, because he was a big boy I called him Chonky.

After two weeks the rescue rang to say they had space and guess what.....couldn't let him go. We've had a rough few months in terms of integration - he loves the kittens but is wary of the other two grown up cats. They can be in the same room now at least. He also hates the dogs, or at least HATED them. He can now be in the same room as one of them, he's unsure about the younger ones.

However.....he is very loving, very attached to me, he sits with me whilst I work. He likes to watch the printer, he tries to get involved as much as possible. I have no idea how old he is but I'm happy he is with us. He's currently sat on my lap, nestled in the crook of my arm purring away.

On the left is my first attempt at a new design for The Shining. I thought I had set up the colour profile correctly but the reds came out pink and the blacks and darker colours weren't right. Not only that but I used the boiling water method to heat the mug up first, I got water on the paper so when it came to pressing it was a bit of a disaster. I also used heat resistant Teflon (or similar) to prevent ink blowout (where it leaks backwards through sublimation paper). I did tape it down but the reality is the mug on the left was a disaster. The mug on the right though, ooooohhweeeeee! I did it from a cold start, so it went into the mug press before turning it on and I also didn't use the Teflon. Just about to post the finished mug.

Just uploaded this, I forgot about it - was one of the first ones I did. He/She looks exactly like my cat Franklin when he's just about to tell me off!

Exciting new thingy to make!

A while back I made some cat stickers for a birthday party. These are photos of cute kitties, transformed into cartoony stickers in PhotoShop. They were then printed and stuck in some party bags.

In the spirit of reusing my own images I have designed some mugs

These are fully customisable, I just need a high resolution photo of your pet, preferably where they are the focal point. The higher quality the photo, the easier it is for me to cartoonify it.

Can be printed on both sides of the mug, we can lose the speech bubble, change the words, have no words - whatever you want!

For custom mugs such as these, they come in at £10 plus postage. If within York I'm happy to drop them off myself.
