Sri Lanka is currently facing the worst economic crisis and political instability ever after Independence due to manifold reasons both short and long-term.

As a result of that, the island is struggling to import even basic necessities such as medicines, and fuel for its 22 million people, spurring weeks of anti-government protests that turned violent and led to the Mahinda Rajapaksa’s resignation on Monday. Eight people died and over 200 were injured.

After the violent clashes, the country’s defense ministry on Tuesday ordered troops to shoot at any persons damaging public property or threatening lives.

The country is currently under a strict curfew which is expected to be lifted by Thursday. Earlier in the day, military spokesman Brigadier Nilantha Premaratne said the situation on the ground is relatively peaceful for now, Bloomberg reported.

To find facts about Hindu idols in Taj mahal petition in high court: open rooms
A petition filed in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court has sought directives to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to open 20 rooms inside the Taj Mahal in Agra to ascertain whether Hindu idols and inscriptions are hidden there

“There is an old controversy related to the Taj Mahal. Around 20 rooms in the Taj Mahal are locked and no one is allowed to enter. It is believed that in these rooms there are idols of Hindu gods and scriptures,” said Dr. Rajneesh Singh.

“I have filed a petition in the high court seeking directives to ASI to open these rooms to ascertain facts. There is no harm in opening these rooms and setting to rest all controversies,” said Singh.

In the plea, the petitioner has sought directives from the court to the state government to constitute a committee that would examine these rooms and looks for any evidence related to Hindu idols or scriptures there.

Rajneesh Singh said he has been trying to ascertain facts about the 20 locked rooms of the Taj Mahal since 2020 through the Right to Information Act (RTI).

80K boxes of Alphonso mangoes reach the APMC market every day
Navi Mumbai: Summers and mangoes go hand-in-hand. Whether you like it pulpy, bite-sized chunks, or with chaat masala, the season has ample in store for you to satiate your mango cravings. This year, the APMC market in Vashi has received the highest number of Alphonso mangoes in the last four years. Every day, the market receives around 80,000 boxes. Last year, the number was 60,000 boxes per day.

Sanjay Pansare, director of the fruits market at APMC, shared, “More than 80,000 boxes of Alphonso mangoes are reaching the market this year, highest in the last three to four years. The mangoes are arriving from Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Raigad districts of Maharashtra to the APMC market. The season from the south is yet to start.

Meanwhile, the farmers say that this year, the flowering of the mangoes everywhere happened at the same time and hence the mango produce seems to be more. “The mango season got delayed after an unseasonal shower at the end of November last year. In November, the flowering of the mangoes had started but it got destroyed in the rain. Hence, later, the flowering happened simultaneously in January at all places. The mangoes that should have come earlier, are coming now due to delayed flowering. So, even as the per day number of mangoes reaching the market is more, the produce at each place is less comparatively,” informed Sachin Lanjekar, a mango farmer from Ratnagiri.

Raj Thackeray demands the removal of speakers from the Mosque.

In the run-up to the key urban local body polls in Maharashtra, Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are attempting to bring the hardline Hindutva agenda back on the table which might work for their advantage but at the same time could stir the political pot.

It was in the late 1980s that the state witnessed the emergence of Hindutva politics when Shiv Sena and BJP forged an alliance as the Ram Janmabhoomi issue took center stage. There was polarization on communal lines between the late 1980s and 1995-96. First, the Sena-BJP government came to power in the 1995 assembly elections.
