As you may know, Loretta has been a cornerstone of country music and paved the way early on for female songwriters in a male-dominated industry. 🎙

She grew up in a family of eight siblings in Kentucky where her father worked a blue-collar job in the coal mines to support his family. Her father was ultimately diagnosed with “black lung” disease, common among coal miners. ⛏

Loretta wrote a song about her experience growing up as a ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’ in Butcher Hollow. The story resonated with people from all walks of life and was so well-received that it was made into a movie. 🎬

She also referenced her love for her family’s story in the naming of her ranch and tour bus as an ode to her father and her humble beginnings. 🖤

FUN FACT: Lorett’s Ranch in Tennessee has its own zip code and post office.

As you may know, Mark Shaw was a contributing photographer for LIFE a magazine, and he shot the set of photos of ‘Lovely Liz’ for the October 15th cover story. At the time that it was published, the issue cost 20 cents. 🪙

Mark also contributed his work to other publications like Harpers Bazaar, Esquire, and Mademoiselle respectively. 🎞

FUN FACT: Elizabeth was widely known for many things; her award-winning acting, exquisite jewelry, and her violet eyes, but a lesser-known fact about Elizabeth is that in 1959 at age 27, she converted to Judaism. ✡️
