For all journos and allies out there who want to find solutions for improving diversity at senior editorial levels, these reports offer some insights. I was asked to leave my much loved job by one of my bosses when I returned from my second maternity leave and I was refused an extension of my part time working hours whilst the organisation was asking for staff to go part time. This stuff really happens. But we live to fight another day with hope and conviction in our hearts 💕

Only me and my edit tonight. Multi track from 3 mics lots of variations in sound levels, synch awareness needed. A true bespoke edit for a lovely client. I’m also working on soundtruism’s upcoming ‘aural identity’ and original little something with some classical bass vibe to it. Another production by soundtruism. YouTube just announced that they are supporting RSS feeds for podcasts in the UK. If you’re wondering whether to add your podcast to YouTube without a video then here are 3 reasons why you might consider it. If you already publish across the other platforms like Apple or Spotify through your current publishing provider (such as Acast or Libsyn or Buzzsprout) you would need to upload seperately to YouTube as there is no integration there. You would be looking at analytics across two different buckets if you know what I mean. YouTube have put lots of info and helpful videos that explain how it all works. Take a read of their pages on becoming a podcast creator on YouTube.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji birthday a few years ago I went to Pakistan and visited both the birthplace and final resting place of in Kartarpur for the 550th birthday and found out many amazing things about his writing, travels and spirit as a man who founded a religion that sought to end conflicts between Hinduism and Islam through a philosophy of coexistence and tolerance. Check out the programme by searching BBC World Service ‘Walking the Kartarpur Corridor’.

Happy to come across as I’ve been having these conversations with journalists and friends in the audio industry for some time and there are various open letters that have and are being written to bring awareness to what is currently happening in 🇵🇸 original ‘Free Palestine’ artwork by Carlos Barberena

At the new Independent Podcast Awards to support podcasting talent from innovators and passionate audio lovers who have been doing it for themselves, getting their original podcasts out there into the world 🌎. Love the ambition and initiative of these podcasts and the health of the podcast ecosystem outside the big corporates and legacy media houses. I was asked to present the news and politics award 🥇 on behalf of the Podcasting Seriously Fund open to encourage more independent podcast entries from audio producers from under represented backgrounds by reimbursing entry fees. The winner of the category I was part of the judging team for went to an excellent podcast by Cait Macleod and another award winner was BRKIN Bread podcast with Sabrina Clarke produced by the excellent Chris Mitchell who is was great to bump into! Congratulations to all the nominees and winners 🏆🏆👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. Congrats also to Emma from on organising such a successful event which I know from experience is no easy feat!!!! Great to hang out with BBC history podcast expert and fellow judge 🥂 who is one of my fave people of all time!!!!

In addition to podcast production, Soundtruism also offers media production training and I’m particularly proud to offer media workshops to the brilliant Women’s Resource Centre that help a whole range of women’s charities working hard for the rights of minoritised women and women who are survivors of domestic violence. If you’re a journalist, then please check out the We Level Up guidelines that sets out the dos and donts when reporting on crimes involving s*xual assault and violence. Too often the portrayal relies on outdated conventions that prioritise and glamourise the perpetrators and pushing a blame emphasis on women. Headlines like “jilted husband killed screaming wife after she had an affair with his friend from the pub” are still being written! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

This discussion was an honour to produce as the subject matter allowed insightful research into ‘s words oratory and writings. The resonance of the speech is powerful today as set out by the 2 guests, Rev Stephen A Green and Ayisha Irfan. I wanted to hear from both a Christian and Muslim who brought their own unique perspective on and in the context of their respective faiths. Host was the great Emmy award winning broadcaster Sherri Jackson from Birmingham, Alabama. Another production for the BBC. If you want to contact us for producing your podcast or documentary please go to the website to get in touch. Link in bio 👌🏽

Baptist Minister, Dr Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his ‘I Have A Dream’ speech on August 28th, 1963 to crowds of over 250,000 in Washington DC as part of ‘The Great March’ which called for jobs and freedom for African Americans. It helped spur the passage of the US Civil Rights Act of 1964. On the 60th anniversary of this legendary speech, the BBC’s Heart and Soul brings together a discussion with speakers from differing religious backgrounds and experiences to talk about how they have been influenced by his words. They discuss the details of his vision, the role of faith in securing social justice and in anti-racism protest today. Produced Soundtruism and die for broadcast in a few weeks 🙏🏽

I am bigging myself up today cos I went to a conference yesterday that had probably ten times (probably more) the people, time and resources that I had to organise the Birmingham Podcast Festival and the results were very different. I spent time and thought and energy on bringing people together to create engaging conversations that you want to genuinely hear because it’s real and important and well ground breaking in a lot of ways. Creating the conditions for lightning ⚡️ moments. That’s what this conversation was between Marcus Ryder MBE, Shelina Janmohammed and Jade Benn on Listening back to it was even better. Don’t worry you too will get the chance to hear this again. Getting published soon 💪🏽
