If you get a chance to see WuLu live, do it. I saw them last week with Ratling Breaks at the Bush and they didn't disappoint at all. It's my first live gig in forever, it felt so good to be back in that environment, feeling the vibes from the crowd and the musicians onstage alike. I had to leave early to get the last train home but I really enjoyed what I saw of the set. Leaning into the 2nd album way more than the first, a very contrasting direction but they pulled it off really well.

Shout out to David Ducky for turning me onto the band a couple of years ago..

Some thoughts on a Monday...

RAVE ORIGINS......

With many people claiming rave origins and attempting to profit from telling their stories, it got me to thinking. A rave is basically a gathering of people dancing to amplified (non mainstream/underground) music, deemed subversive by the authorities.

The origins of rave culture actually go way way back , way farther than the generally agreed upon roots in the late 1980's.

The earliest example I can find is the late 1930's early 1940's in Germany. With the rise of fascist control in the country, 'imported' music was banned, especially from the USA and UK. Kids would gather and a dj/selector would play big band and swing music on vinyl. The kids had their own dance moves that were also frowned upon by mainstream society in Germany at the time.

When caught, these kids were often killed and the music and equipment was destroyed. They were dying for their right to express themselves to music they connected with, despite the mainstream's view of it. And nobody mentions them, ever. They were facing the most severe anti rave laws in history, and it didn't stop them.

This needs to be in the conversation as do other examples that I'm sure are out there. In people's quest to claim history, much of the history of our culture is being forgotten and completely overlooked. As an original rave generation kid, I resonate with the Swing Kids way more than I do with many of the self titled originators of underground rave culture on social media today.

The universe doesn't exist without Chaos, she is the void, the paper for the ink that wrote our universe.

A concept that makes total sense and is backed up by science.

I like this concept.

The picture below has no correlation to this, it's just eye candy.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Some rambling thoughts on a Monday.

This last few years my relationship with music has been up and down. Love it hate it, pull it apart and all the psychology involved with music as a product, the way people dramatise their relationship with it, the deeper relationship I've had with music myself and also how it effects others. I've found myself being incredibly judgmental at times, about how others utilise music in their lives. Then other days I feel bad on myself for having those opinions.

Bit of a weird one at times, I don't mind admitting.

One of the things I found very triggering, is when an artist dies and tons of people make very dramatic posts about how this artist saved their life etc etc etc. It seems so fake much of the time. I started to take offence when seeing similar posts online, everybody attempting to make it about them seemed so cringe. Now I feel kinda cringe for spending time thinking about such things. Up and down, round and round we go.

Then this last few weeks, I've found myself digging for new music and going down rabbit holes. Spending hours and hours losing myself in it. I've missed it really and had pushed it away instead of embracing it.

I spent 2 hours tweaking a new bass sound serum this afternoon, hairs coming up on the back of my neck, that feeling of discovery and accomplishment as I get closer to what's in my head.

I've missed this, a lot.

As an englishman, on my darkest days. I simply remember the fact that we have the most varied and excellent cuts of bacon on the planet. We have middle, middle back, smoked and unsmoked, streaky and a few others that escape me right now.

Struggles come and go, bacon is everything.

Ive been checking out some UK Drill recently. I quite like this new track from Mazza L20. Murdaside. So I did a bit of digging and to be honest he's an idiot. Moaning about being locked up for filming himself with a tool used in a murder, and his co d was bagged because of a clip with him and said tool all on Mazza's phone. That doesn't make you a gangster, that makes you dumb af. Imagine getting 11 years simply for being an idiot with a phone and playing plastic gangster. Wicked tune though!

I won't post the track but here's a FING instead.

So about Saturday night. First time I've played in London since 2007 and for so many faces I knew in the crowd. It was like a south east London reunion. So many happy smiling faces, it was an absolute pleasure to drop a set for them. MC Spee and Nology were on top form, keeping the energy levels high. It was great to not be the focus on stage for a change and just get my head down into what I was doing. Big shout out to RatPack , Frankie Jack Frost, Luke Skyz Cullen, Joe Pressa , Bill Laurie and all the Lauries and everybody else that performed or worked on the night. It felt great to be back. Special mention to Russ from Nfe NO Fuss for running things very professionally and having so much energy from start to finish, for your first one, it's a true credit to ya bruvva. I'm excited to be on this train and see where it goes.

Next up I'm playing the launch of RMBL in Birmingham this Thursday, all tickets have gone now. If you're fortunate enough to have got one, I'll see you there.
