Can’t believe I got the opportunity to do a National Lottery Heritage Funded project during my degree (thanks Mark!!) The risoprinted posters were a huge success and will be displayed in homes and businesses around the St Helens borough, two posters going as far as New Zealand to some St Helens born people missing the town! It’s always great to celebrate heritage and it was so lovely to be a part of it!

Last week I said I was going to start glass etching, this week I’m shrinky dinking 🥴 Glass etching made my nose a lil too itchy and shrinky d***s look so much more fun.
Today I’ve played around with a different type of plastic, PET1 plastic only shrinks slightly, turns from clear to white, but still works! Next time I’ll try with #6 plastic and start making some cool designs!

My final re-design of The Uninhabitable Earth by David Wallace-Wells. I’ve been working on this for my second year of uni and finally submitted it to my tutor today 😅

A simple design for , they are currently working on raising awareness about the differences between the north/south divide. I included imagery depicting homes that are well looked after and colourful in the south, opposed to run down and dull homes in the north.

The best part for me is being able to mock up my designs and see them come to life ✨

This is a collection of designs I did for a dummy brief with 24/7 blinds, I created a retro 70s feel to my designs for warmth in the home.

Being able to see what you’ve created is completely different to just seeing the designs on paper, it’s just the best!

D A Y 2 8 - A D A P T

for today is adapt! I’ve done a lot of adapting the past few years but the biggest is having to fit everything round a toddler. Mornings aren’t as simple as just waking up and getting dressed anymore 😅 The hardest part is setting time aside for me to get my work done, by the time my toddler is in bed I just want to sit and relax but I try and get at least an hour of work done first!

As a designer I use many, many tools a lot of them being digital software (most of the creative cloud apps). I use procreate and Canva too but I also do a lot of physical work so I need allsorts of other tools!

There are lots of useful tools out there depending on what it is you want to do!

It’s Sunday, the sun is shining and the weather is mild. Take the day to breathe in some fresh air and take some time away from technology before the working week starts🌳

Colour plays a big part in graphic design, but it also plays a big part in everything! A good thing to look into is colour psychology and how different colours affect different people. It can help when designing (if you need a happy design you’d more likely use yellow as it’s an uplifting colour) or it can be used pretty much anywhere (painting a living room navy blue because it’s the most calming).
If you want to look into colour theory a bit more I highly recommend ‘The World’s Favourite Colour Project’ by G.F Smith and University of Sussex! They go into depth about colour theory and did a whole research study into the world’s ‘favourite’ colour! 🎨

D A Y 2 3 - R E A L I T Y

Reality for me is just thoughts, behind every action, image or creation there are so many thoughts behind it. Something as simple as going out for a few drinks can create a whole wave of thoughts and emotions. It’s the same when doing work ‘is that neat enough?’ ‘Will this colour scheme work?’ ‘Does it have the right effect?’ ‘Can I complete what I want to in the time I have?’ My reality is the making and the doing not the end result and I am definitely my worst critic, nothing I do will be good enough in my own eyes but anyone else can do the tiniest thing and I’d be beaming with pride 😅
I mean everyone has that little voice inside their head that’s just constantly nagging them… right? 😅 If I’m ever just sitting in silence or staring off into the distance TRUST ME there’s a lot going on up there 😂

D A Y 2 2 - D E C I S I O N S

day 22 and it’s time to talk about decisions…

I’ve had a lot of big decisions to make over the past few years and I’d like to think I’ve make the right choices recently! I keep seeing 11:11 on the clock nearly everyday and apparently that means you’re on the right track so I think it’s a positive sign!

After having my little girl I was really struggling mentally and physically so wasn’t able to go back to work. I applied for university again on a whim (I’ve been before and dropped off out not long afterwards). I wasn’t sure I’d be able to stick it out this time round or not but thanks to I honestly think I made the right choice. They’re so flexible with me, understanding that I have a daughter to look after, help me with anything I need and have made my overall university experience less stressful and enjoyable! I’d honestly recommend using a smaller university over a bigger one as I’d have never managed in another big university. This transition between has also given me the chance to spend more time with my daughter opposed to me going into full time work, now by the time I finish university she’ll be going into school so everything seems to be falling perfectly into place!

I’m 25 now and in my second year of university, it’s never too late to chase your dreams so don’t give up on yourself, I never thought I’d be where I am today so have a lil faith! 💕

I think we all have that little voice inside us that tries to take us down, in some people it’s bigger than it is in others.

But we have to learn to control it and know when we’re overthinking things. When you’re older you aren’t going to regret the things you did, you’re going to regret the things you didn’t do and I think we need to remember that sometimes 💕

day 17 and I’m excited to see where everyone does their creative work!!

I do a lot of my work in university, in bed, on the couch, outside and on the bureau in my living room.
I think my favourite place to work is my little bureau, it has everything I need in one place.

When I was in my ‘furniture upcycling stage’ it was one of the pieces I collected to do up and flip. I bought it from a lady clearing her late fathers home and when I got it back to my own home I didn’t have the heart to change anything about it, I felt like it held so many memories… so I cleaned it up and now it sits proudly in front of my living room window so I can see the world go by while I work on my next piece! I wonder what the previous owner used it for? Did he sit and write letters, write stories or even just use it for storage? I like to romanticise it’s previous usage if you can’t tell 😅

D A Y 1 6 - H I G H S A N D L O W S

day 16 and we’re talking about highs and lows 🎢

In life we have highs and lows, I know I’ve definitely hit rock bottom before and I’ve also been on top of the world. Life’s a journey so there’s gonna be some ups and downs you just buckle in and do your best to enjoy the ride.

I’ve definitely had highs and lows with my work too, times I don’t feel like what I do is good enough or just beating myself up about things that haven’t gone right… this usually leads to forgetting the high points, when a lot of the lows are usually minuscule compared to the highs! You have to remember that we’re all human and we can’t be perfect 100% of the time, we have to allow ourselves that leniency of good vs bad!

This was a poster creation from last year for MoMA, I wanted to create something simplistic and contemporary looking so I eventually decided I wanted to work around the idea of dots and lines. I took inspiration from the colour blind tests but used colours that contrasted each other instead so that you could still read the words within.
