EXCLUSIVE: How Top Nigerian Military Officers Pressured President Tinubu To Drop Nuhu Ribadu As National Security Adviser

June 16, 2023 Broadblog

It was learnt that the military officers prevailed on Tinubu to drop Ribadu as the NSA because he is not a former Army General.

President Bola Tinubu would have appointed Nuhu Ribadu, a former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as the National Security Adviser, but for pressure from some top and powerful military officers, SaharaReporters has learnt.

Sources said that top military officers told President Tinubu point blank that they cannot work with their “junior” as the NSA and hence kicked against the idea of appointing him into the office.

It was earlier today reported that the president approved the appointment of eight Special Advisers.

Tinubu appointed Mr. Dele Alake as Special Adviser, Special Duties, Communications and Strategy; Mr. Yau Darazo as Special Adviser, Political and Intergovernmental Affairs; Mr. Wale Edun as Special Adviser, Monetary Policies and Mrs. Olu Verheijen as Special Adviser, Energy.

The president added that he was aware of how Nigerians desired instant change in economic development in order to ease the hardships they had been subjected to for years.

President Bola Tinubu has claimed that solving Nigeria’s socio-economic problems is hectic but he and his government will not relent because they begged Nigerians to choose them during the 2023 general elections.

Tinubu, who mentioned this on Thursday during the inauguration of the National Economic Council, reaffirmed his desire to work with relevant bodies and institutions to achieve the desired economic growth for Nigeria.

The president added that he was aware of how Nigerians desired instant change in economic development in order to ease the hardships they had been subjected to for years.

The president said, “It is also evidenced that the task of growing our economy is quite enormous but you and I ask for it, we campaign for it; even danced for it, we begged for it. So we have no reason to complain. We must annex the growth potentials of Nigeria and bring about serious development; to bring us from potential nation, to a pragmatic economic development rapid manner. Their expectation is on the NEC, as a verifiable source of articulating policy and programme, I cannot overemphasise that.

“It is also reassuring to note that the public, members of the public are behind us. They want reforms, and they want it quick, to have a meaningful impact in their lives. We have enormous challenges facing us,” he added.

Recall that it was earlier reported that Tinubu inaugurated the NEC on Thursday morning and maybe Vice-President, Kashim Shettima its head.
