βI lost to a very strong eight-year-oldβ: how chess is capturing the imagination of a new generation in Ireland Set to feature in a new Sally Rooney novel, the game is officially having a moment. But what makes it so appealing to young players?

Today's strategy game is called Sliding Rooks.
It's game number 13 in the LogiqBoard strategy games list! Yes we have many games for you to choose from!
Aim of the game:
to be the last player to move.
How to play:
White starts with eight rooks on the a-file, while Black lines up their eight rooks along the h-file.
White starts the game.
Players take turns to slide a rook horizontally an arbitrary number of squares in a single direction. (White rooks move East and black rooks move West.)
All rooks stay in their starting ranks and capturing or jumping over other pieces is not allowed.
If you're the last player that moves because your partner has no available moves then you win! π
A really quick game but wonderful to explore at a deeper level. β‘

This is a pawn-like game.
Each piece can move forwards straight or diagonally one square (i.e. NorthWest, North, NorthEast for White). π§π§π§
Captures are made diagonally.
Captures are not obligatory.
The winner is the first person who reaches the opposite side with a piece.

Can you solve the 999 puzzle? π΄π΅π£βοΈ
This time with HINTS included.
Place the balls into the column addition to make the column addition correct! β³
Use the numbers 1-9 to create three 3-digit numbers which add up to 999
You cannot use the same number twice! π€¨
https://logiqboard.com/boards/clone/2Ewh1gWGiQ
This Christmas version of the 999 puzzle is suitable for younger primary school children or for children who need a little more support.
The empty circles reminds students that they need to create three 3-digit numbers.
The HTO headings (hundreds, tens and ones) allow us to have a better maths discussion...which column must total 9 and not 19? Why?
Which column must not have a 9, why do you think that is? We talk about it creating a 4-digit number which isn't allowed.
Which columns might need a 9 or 8, why do you think that is?
If the tens column must total 19, what should the 3 balls add up to?
We also looked at 'smart addition' skills, if you need to add 6 + 3 + 4 then I'd like to see 6+4 making 10 then +3=13 We.don't always need to count in ones.
A confident learner asked for numicon which I loved. This helped them with their number sense and addition to start with.
β Finding the solution is wonderful but I'm interested in how children explore and reason about numbers. ππ€π
