We’re celebrating Friday with the FEATURE FLOWER all our mixed buckets friends received yesterday.

We love sunflowers, but these are so special - the WHITE LITE variety. They bring the joy of a sunflower to any arrangement, with a little something...extra.

Sunflowers represent positivity, strength, happiness & loyalty. And the white + cream colors have a connection to innocence.

They are native to North America, and can range in size from 6 inches to 12 feet tall! There are about 100 varieties of Helianthus (Helios for sun & Anthos flower). They are wonderful food crops, making them even more valuable beyond their aesthetic beauty.

Make sure to tag us in your designs so we can all enjoy your beautiful arrangements. We love seeing what you create each week 🌻💛

We’re continuing our big moment with Marigolds for such a gorgeous late summer pop of color.

We love what created here from her weekly mixed bucket of local blooms - absolutely stunning.

She mentioned that the orange & white combo pushed her a bit out of her comfort zone as she designed - and we love that!!

Each week’s bucket is full of different seasonal flowers to help you explore & push your design boundaries. 🧡🧡🧡

A total showstopper in our opinion! Beautiful PINK LILIES are our Feature Flower and will be in your mixed buckets today 🌸💗

Each color of lily carries its own unique symbolism, and pink represents femininity, compassion & love.

Lillies are native to North America, Europe and Northern Asia, with over 80 varieties available. Stories & images of the lily date back to 1580 BC, where it was believed to have magical properties in addition to being prized for its beauty.

Enjoy these local lovelies - when you see these in person it’s easy to understand why they’ve been so highly valued throughout history.

Beautiful AGERATUM is our FEATURE FLOWER this week!

Also known as Mist or Floss Flower, it’s native to Central and South America and is made up of over 50 varieties, ranging across blue, purple, red, pink & white.

Symbolically, it’s used to represent thoughtfulness & politeness. It has been used medicinally to treat a wide variety of issues from wound care to colds, and has even been used as for natural pest control on the garden.

The name Ageratum stems from the Greek word for long-lived, since it has such a lengthy vase life. We love it for its beautiful colors, striking texture & ability to attract beneficial pollinators to our farm partners’ fields.

Need a pick-me-up? We’ve got you! MARIGOLDS are our FEATURE FLOWER this week!

It’s colors of orange & yellow always brighten a mood, and symbolize warmth, cheer, creativity & hard work. Marigolds have special meaning in most religions as a sacrifice or remembrance of those that have passed.

In the garden, most people think of marigolds as quite small, but varieties grown for cut flowers have long stems and very large blooms.
They also keep many pests at bay, as well as being beautiful in your landscape.

Have fun designing with these local beauties this week!

As a cut flower, its beautiful & long-lasting. However, Tuberose is more prized for its amazing fragrance, and has been a key scent in perfumes for centuries - starting with one created for Marie Antionette.

Symbolically, Tuberose represents passionate love - Victorian women were advised to stay away from it, or they’d lose their senses. It’s also why you’ll see Tuberose in so many weddings & celebrations of love.

ZINNIAS are our Feature Flower this week, so get ready for this amazing Summer stunner in your mixed buckets!

Native to North & South America (with most varieties hailing from Mexico), Zinnias have 100+ cultivars and breeders are expanding color palettes each season.

Zinnias are edible, but have a bitter taste, so most just enjoy their beauty visually.

They are perfect for any cutting garden as they attract bees & hummingbirds - which help manage whitefly populations. They are fantastic cut flowers - however, they don’t ship well, so it’s best to buy local.

Symbolically, Zinnias represent a heartfelt or long farewell, remembrance & affection.

Enjoy the beautiful colors, sizes & shapes this week. Zinnias range in bloom size and come in single, double or semi-double forms.

Flower buckets are headed your way this afternoon, and our Feature Flower this week is GUNNI EUCALYPTUS.

We love eucalyptus, and local euc shines above the imported varieties as it’s incredibly long-lasting, beautifully fragrant & brings a lively bounce to arrangements.

There are ~700 varieties of eucalyptus. It’s native to Australia, where Aboriginal peoples revered the tree as holy, representing the division of heaven, earth & the underworld.

Symbolically it brings purification & dispels negative energy and also represents strength.

It has also been valued historically as a medicinal, from everything from aromatherapy oils to relieve pain & promote relaxation and ease congestion, to tea and even bug repellent.

You can enjoy eucalyptus fresh or dried; we love a stem that can pull double duty!

Local LISIANTHUS is our feature flower this week - and it’s a perfect fit for American Flowers Week as it’s native to North America, specifically the Southwestern US.

Lisianthus has an amazing vase life, and has a similar look to a rose, but with a more open bloom form and often has many blooms on a single stem.

It’s perfect for weddings & significant family events, as it symbolizes devotion, tradition & gratitude.
It also carries special meaning due to life cycle - lisianthus is very difficult to start from seed, but once it germinates & grows, it blooms profusely. This has come to represent overcoming & rising above whatever your surroundings or situation may be.

Enjoy this beautiful, North American lovely in your mixed buckets this week. Thanks for supporting local flower farmers, this week & always!

There are many varieties, ranging from yellow single blooms to rusty orange double blooms, with a wide range in-between.

Rudbeckia symbolizes encouragement - not surprising as their cheerful blooms bring sunshine wherever they go.

When reels isn’t working...we go old school & make do with what works!

Mixed buckets are on their way to your doorsteps, and here’s a sneak peek of all the variety you get to enjoy this week - including our Feature Flower, FEVERFEW.

Make sure to share your designs with us 🌸💗

08/06/2021

Bucket Bunch!!
We are starting a new weekly post to highlight one variety of flower that will be in your mixed bucket for the week.

This week’s feature flower? FEVERFEW.

While absolutely beautiful as a cut flower in any arrangement, Feverfew has been a prized medicinal for millennia, and was traditionally known as ‘bride’s buttons’ as families would give newlyweds cuttings to begin herbal gardens in their new homes.

Despite the name, Feverfew actually doesn’t bring down fevers - it mainly helps with migraines & headaches.
It was also traditionally worn to ward off bad luck & accidents.

On the farm, Feverfew repels insects (even mosquitos) and provides a cleansing citrus scent, which is perfect for companion-planting with self-pollinating crops (note: don’t plant it around bee or butterfly gardens as it will repel those too!).

Feverfew also dries nicely, so you can get double use out of it in your fresh & dried designs.

Enjoy your Feverfew this week! Make sure to share your designs so we can see how you use it.
