Askari Bank reported a profit after tax (PAT) of Rs14.07 billion in 2022, an increase of 45% as compared to Rs9.715 billion recorded in 2021.
As per the bank’s financial results for the year ended December 31, 2022, the 45% growth was lower than expected on account of higher and excessive taxation on banking companies introduced in the Finance Bill, which also included retrospective application.
The bank’s foreign exchange income increased by 72% to Rs5.5 billion in 2022 as compared to Rs3.2 billion in 2021. The jump “is attributable to increase in volume of large ticket transactions and active participation in interbank swap market,” it said.
Askari reported earnings per share of Rs11.16 for 2022 compared to Rs7.70 last year.
The bank’s profit before tax came in at Rs27.5 billion for 2022, an increase of 76% over last year.
“The record profit was delivered by strong performance on all key activity drivers amidst challenging market fundamentals,” said the bank.
Meanwhile, revenues increased by 23% YoY, to Rs51.6 billion from Rs.41.8 billion last year. Net mark-up income increased to Rs40 billion from Rs32.4 billion, a 23% YoY increase.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the pilot launch of autonomous food delivery robots. Called ‘talabots’, the robots will be piloted in Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) in partnership with Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ) and talabat UAE.
The pilot phase will see the introduction of three talabots to serve Cedre Villas residents, a gated community in the heart of DSO. The talabots will travel within a 3-kilometre radius from the Cedre Shopping Centre launch point to ensure a speedy 15-minute delivery time.
According to the RTA, the robots will support riders by taking care of short-distance deliveries to “increase efficiency and fleet optimisation, and reduce carbon emissions”.

Several users expressed their thoughts on Musk's post. When one user said, "I guess he was the only one crazy enough to take the job."
Musk replied: "He is perfect for the job."
"Will Twitter add the option of reporting animal abuse under the new leadership?," another user asked.
In December last year, Musk had said that he would only run the software and servers teams after he finds "someone foolish enough" to take his place.
He made the statement in a response to a poll he ran, where 57.5 per cent of the respondents said that he should step down as the Twitter CEO.
Meanwhile, he had said, "No one wants a job who can actually keep Twitter alive. There is no successor... The question is not finding a CEO, the question is finding a CEO who can keep Twitter alive."
