Kevin Bolstad Artist Studio
Kevin Bolstad captures northern landscapes on canvas using oil and acrylics or on paper with water c North is home. Still, painting remains his passion.
Kevin Bolstad has lived “North of 60” for over 40 years, and in Yellowknife for the past 25 of these. Kevin has developed a unique connection to the land, built from many hours chasing sunlight-shaping shadows, trying to capture a unique moment through the eye of his camera or sketchbook to later revisit it on canvas. Having survived and thrived more than a few winters and raised his family in the
Fall colours are quite the contrast to winter white.....thinking about summer and the fall that follows.... This one is called Last Dance. It is now at Visual Effects in Yellowknife for sale.
I've been at the easel this year....but just haven't had a chance to get my paintings over to Visual Effects...until this weekend. These brave northern trees stand tall in -40 Celsius and the weight of heavy snow never seems to be an issue. They stand strong. I called this painting "S'No Problem".
Proud to present a recent piece of art called Tempo Rubato - a commissioned piece recently completed for a wonderful musician who has contributed so much to Yellowknife's music community. Tempo Rubato is a musical term referring to expressive and rhythmic freedom by a slight speeding up and then slowing down of the tempo of a piece at the discretion of the soloist or the conductor. And such are the seasons in Yellowknife - all in the hands of a conductor who paints fall colours which warm us up and send us out on the land, quickly, before the leaves fall and the winter emerges, slowing us down with longer nights and winter whites.
I have been working on commissioned pieces of art over the summer and into the fall, but have forgotten to share some of them with you as I finish them. This one is "Lucy's Lake". Enjoy and see others I have done in my archives at kevinbolstad.com
I am pleased to point you to the online version of the May/June issue of Above & Beyond Magazine. I am humbled to have been featured in the Magazine and to have my art featured on the front cover of this edition. You can read the story about me on Page 20. The link to the live version is https://issuu.com/arctic_journal/docs/ab_mj21
A special thank you to Cathie, who wrote this article at the magazine's request.
A new painting is heading over to Visual Effects tomorrow morning where you can purchase it. This is a small painting, and it will look familiar to those of you who have enjoyed a trip to Cameron Falls, just outside of Yellowknife. The details on size and price are located at kevinbolstad.com/gallery
My signature is on the painting this evening...and I am now thinking about a name for this artwork. Feel free to make a suggestion if this art moves you and you don't mind me taking you up on your suggestion.....this piece will be in Visual Effects next week.
Kevin has been busy in the studio during cold January evenings and there are a few new paintings in the gallery. You can check out his art gallery at kevinbolstad.com and now you can also go down to Visual Effects in Yellowknife if you want to see the paintings up close as they are now available for purchase there as well as from his website. Don't forget..Valentines day is just around the corner, and if you want to purchase your loved one something lasting and gorgeous..a Kevin Bolstad original may be just the thing that makes your partner's soul sing.....
This is one of my paintings sold this weekend in its new home! Thanks Roy and Maureen for sending me a photo. Your kitchen is gorgeous and I think my painting looks pretty good in it! Thanks for sharing this photo and letting me share it with others too!
Thank you to all the Yellowknifers who came to my exhibit this weekend and who took time to chat with me while checking out my art. 32 of the 40 paintings are now in new homes or are being wrapped up for Christmas gifts. I really appreciate the support and kind words shared. We will be working to update our new website to move sold paintings into an archive gallery page and those unsold will remain in the gallery with prices and purchase mechanisms activated in the near future. I will also turn my attention back to putting paint brush and paints to canvas this weekend, and as we add new paintings to the gallery, we will use this site to let you know.
If you want to be on my mailing list for future shows, just let me know using the contact sheet on my website. Again, thank you for those who came to my exhibit.
Busy reception tonight! 52 guests!
Eve Erasmus enjoys a sneak preview of the show on Friday night
