This is a topic that’s very important to me and I’m looking forward to helping others navigate to these challenges.
Heartbreak can feel overwhelming, especially as a woman navigating the complexities of relationships and emotions. It’s easy to feel lost and alone after experiencing the loss of a relationship or unrequited love, but healing is possible with the right support and tools. This group offers a safe space for women to come together, share their experiences, and work through their heartbreak with both peer support and strategic guidance. Using the myth of Psyche and Eros as a framework, you’ll explore the stages of healing, gain valuable insights, and find the strength to move forward.

(TL;DR - The prize from the contest would help me build my private practice as an energy healer and therapist and help more people, while also helping to stabilize my own financial situation).

I entered this contest just for fun and to see what would happen--it seemed pretty silly at the time. I didn't think anything would come of it but then I got notice that I was in the second round of the contest and in the top 20 for my group, which was kind of shocking.

Why?

Because for most of my life I've felt ugly. I remember being bullied about my appearance regularly throughout my elementary school and junior high years, and every time I look in the mirror I can't help but notice every "flaw." As a therapist and energy healer who often helps other people with self-esteem issues, you might think that by age 42 I should be over all that childhood BS, but it cuts deep. It's something I work on every day.

Anyway, even more than getting attention for looking a certain way, the biggest draw for this contest was the $40,000 prize, which if I won, I'd put into growing my private practice as a therapist and energy healer.

Right now I am fortunate enough to rent some office space by the hour from a wonderful and generous friend who owns a psychological testing company, but this isn't a permanent solution. Once I'm able to go full time into private practice, which is my goal, I'll need a dedicated office space of my own so I don't impose on my friend's business. And anyone who has tried to find any kind of space to rent for anything in the Salt Lake City area knows how insanely expensive it's become, so the money would help toward that goal. I'd also put the money toward further training and certification in the areas of trauma and addiction so I can be of greater help to the clients I serve, as well as toward expanding the energy healing services I offer and working toward the creation of an integrative healing center where clients can experience multiple modalities to support their healing journey.

Carl Jung used the term anima to describe “the inner figure of a woman held by a man,” and animus to describe “the figure of a man at work in a woman’s psyche.” The anima or animus functions as a psychopomp, or “guide of soul” which mediates between the conscious and unconscious, often becoming a “necessary link with creative possibilities and instruments of individuation.”

These archetypes can profoundly influence our relationships. Individuals often choose partners based upon a resemblance to the anima or animus, or who outwardly express characteristics and feelings that lay dormant in their own psyche. This type of projection can lead to disillusionment and heartbreak once we get to know “the real him, the real her, in extremis, the mask slipped from the face,” particularly if that face turns out to be very different from the idealized archetypal image we hold.
