Introducing a project that we are currently working on: An AI Curriculum Inspired by Historic Board Games ♟️🤖
The EU project "AI Boardgames" combines the rich cultural heritage of historical board games with modern AI education for youth. 📲🧩 Check out the first impressions at https://shatranj.ai/ !
IMAGINARY will be contributing two lessons on Reinforcement Learning to the curriculum: one on search algorithms and another on Reinforcement Learning and board games.
As part of the project, a chess tournament involving science teachers from several high schools took place at the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul in May 2024 (see image).
Stay tuned for more updates!💡
📚9th MaRDI-Newsletter: I have no data❌📊

Data or no data - that is the question! At MaRDI, we are dedicated to communicating our project's goals and mission to mathematicians of all fields. Many in our audience, particularly those in areas like topology, number theory, harmonic analysis, or logic, often see themselves as not heavy data users. The phrase “I have no data” resonates with many.
In the key article of the 9th issue of the MaRDI newsletter, we present a fictional (but realistic) dialogue that addresses common questions and concerns.
✨ Plus, don't miss our Data Date Interview with Martin Grötschel, workshop reports, and the first exhibition of the MaRDI Station on the ship MS Wissenschaft.🚢
IMAGINARY is on the longlist for the first-ever Enter Award 2024! 🎉
This award promotes free access to scientific publications and other materials on the internet, supporting an open and collaborative culture of education, research, and learning in Germany. We're honored to be nominated in the "Pionierleistung" (pioneering work) category for our open-source science exhibitions. The award ceremony is on July 3, 2024 - wish us luck! 🤞

🚢 Starting today, the MS Wissenschaft will embark on its annual tour, commencing in Berlin. This year’s tour theme revolves around the concept of freedom. MaRDI, the Mathematical Research Data Initiative, of which IMAGINARY is a part, will showcase the multi-player game “Citizen Quest: Together for a freer world”.
In this game, players navigate a city environment, exploring various facets of freedom. They encounter characters facing challenges to their freedom and are tasked with aiding them through empowerment, fostering discussions, generating new ideas, or fostering empathy.
The adventure begins aboard a mathematical vessel recently docked in the city’s university quarter. Here, advocates of scientific freedom advocate for sharing research data in a FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) manner.
👉 Admission is free. The exhibition is open daily from 10 am to 6.30 pm and is recommended for ages twelve and up. Information on the exhibition, tour, and events on board can be found here: https://ms-wissenschaft.de/
Exciting news! 🎉 We are introducing our latest exhibit 🌟RRRRR🌟 at the kick-off event for the annual theme on raw materials at Futurium. Discover the five core strategies of the Circular Economy, using the example of the smartphone: Reduce, Repair, Reuse, Refurbish, and Recycle, all while playing our multiplayer cooperative simulation game. 🔄♻️
The exhibit revolves around a dynamic simulation depicting the lifecycle of smartphone production and usage. You can actively engage with the simulation through a game mechanic based on worker placement and directly influence the simulation's progression and its various stakeholders. 📱💡 Through these interactions, you gain insights into how the “R strategies” impact the economy in real-world scenarios.
Come, play, and discover RRRRR at FuturiumLab!

Our SMEM project 🦊 is wrapping up after two years of collaboration with our European partners.
🌟On Thursday, November 30, 2023, the entire SMEM team will present the results. At the open event at Mathematikum in Gießen, SMEM’s Small Exhibition and the Didactic Suitcase will be showcased to the public. Teachers will also get a preview of SMEM’s booklet Educator’s Companion for Workshops.
There will be plenty of inspiration and ideas for making math tangible for children from ages 3-8. At the event, every SMEM partner will also give a presentation on their creations, and invited speaker Prof. Stephanie Schuler (didactics of mathematics, Landau University) will give a talk.
Here is a sneak peek into the exhibits IMAGINARY created for the project.
🌐 More information about SMEM can be found here: https://smemlab.eu/
Do you already know our exhibit “Citizen Quest”? Here you can make important decisions for a fictional small town by playing citizens with different points of view.
For example, what would you think about the construction of a Ferris wheel to bring more tourists to the city? Or what would be your opinion on the presence of bears in urban spaces – if your opinion considers even the bears’ perspective?
A successful future of democracy needs ways and tools to build consensus so that different viewpoints and needs are taken into account. You can practice this with the exhibit developed by Imaginary - open mathematics , which consists of a player station with three monitors, joysticks and control buttons as well as a projection of the city map on the opposite side.
Join us and help make good decisions for your (virtual) city now!
