The European Safe Smart Food project ends with a FINAL event in Barcelona, 21-23rd of September, 2022.

Juvรฉ & Camps

26/10/2022

The European Safe Smart Food project ends, after more than 2 years of collaboration between clusters and their SMEs

Business Upper Austria (Austria), Food Products Quality Cluster (Latvia), Smart Food Cluster (Lithuania), Foodservice Cluster (Spain) and Packaging Cluster (Spain) held the final event of the project in Barcelona, 21-23 September.

An initiative that was born with the aim of promoting the internationalisation of clusters and their SMEs, improving their management capacity as well as the agrifood ecosystem, concludes.

Safe Smart Food has led to the creation of a training ebook, the organisation of a hackathon and various cooperation activities, the coordination of more than 7 exchanges and the transfer of knowledge between the entire project universe.

In September, the COSME "Safe Smart Food" project came to an end with a final event that took place in Barcelona, from 21 to 23. The members of the European consortium and all the stakeholders who participated in the project enjoyed three days of activities such as a visit to the Juvรฉ & Camps winery, an innovation workshop with Alfons Cornellร  and the preparation of new eco-recipes with the chef Mireia Anglada.

Visit to Juvรฉ & Camps vineyards, on 21st of September
On the first day of the reunion, the results of the project were presented to the members who have been part of the adventure. Emma Vendrell, Head of International Projects of ACCIร“, reviewed the different ways of accessing European projects for internationalisation, and highlighted the role of the clusters, which in Catalonia: โ€œthere is 25 clusters with more than 2.300 members, 69.000 million โ‚ฌ of global turnover and promote 150 cooperative projects".
This was followed by a guided tour of the Juvรฉ & Camps vineyards in Sant Sadurnรญ d'Anoia, with a final tasting of cavas and a networking lunch.

Open innovation workshop with Alfons Cornellร , 22 September
The second day was devoted to the exchange of good practices between Catalan and European clusters. The session started with Cluster Talks focused on innovative initiatives carried out by different entities and continued with an innovation dynamic led by the expert Alfons Cornellร .

During the Cluster Talks, Eloi Montcada, Cluster Manager of the Catalan Wine Cluster INNOVI, explained how to make winning project reports. Joaquim Solana, CEO of CENFIM, Furniture Cluster, shared how they generate added value services for their members. Eudald Casas, Cluster Manager of the Catalan Cluster of meat and alternative protein INNOVACC, showed how they face challenges and new ideas for the development of collaborative innovation projects. Pau Fernรกndez, Head of Communication of the Clรบster de l'Energia Eficient de Catalunya, told those present the techniques they use to have a media impact and good sponsorship. Elisabeth Torralba, Customer Success at secpho, presented an interesting project called Konstel, a metaverse created exclusively by the cluster, which will hold 14 virtual events in 2022. Finally, Adriร  Martรญnez, Strategic Project Manager of the Beauty Cluster, gave advice to the other clusters on how to organise big events successfully.

Gastronomic workshop in Terra Veritas, with Mireia Anglada, on 23rd of September
On the third and final day, we learned from the Ecochef Mireia Anglada how to create a more sustainable, ecological and nutritionally coherent cuisine with organic products. In the Terra Veritas space, we were able to hold a practical workshop with a final tasting buffet, in which recipes based on sustainability, health and ecology were prepared, thus responding to market and consumer trends.

The consortium of the Safe Smart Food project returns to the face-to-face activity with a meeting in Barcelona!

After months of virtual work and remote meetings, the consortium of the European project joined again in Barcelona the week of 19 October, to define future activities to be carried out and to learn about good practices of the host country.

The five clusters were able to visit the Gastronomic Forum of Barcelona, the facilities of the company Tupinamba, a gastroshow with local products or exchange contacts with potential Spanish stakeholders, among other initiatives.

The consortium travelled to Fira Barcelona to visit the Gastronomic Forum, where the Director of the event, Jaume von Arend, offered an institutional welcome and guided tour of the exhibitionโ€™s highlights. Then, the Foodservice Cluster, also exhibitor of the event, led the European clusters by the stands of their member companies to get to know their services, such as Tupinamba, Caviaroli, Bidfood, Adernats, Celler de Capรงanes o GB Food. The entities were able to see and test the gastronomic solutions offered by the HORECA sector of Catalonia, as well as potential routes for international collaboration.

One of the experiential activities pointed on the exchange agenda, was the meeting in a gastroshow of the city that, through local raw materials, explained the culinary history of the Catalan territory and the seasonal products par excellence.

The visit to Barcelona was the perfect occasion to bring the consortium together and to agree on future activities and actions to be carried out within the framework of the project. Biofach (02/2022) and Anuga Foodtec (04/2022) were the events chosen for the next face-to-face meetings during the first half of next year, two activities in which to promote internationalisation and collaboration. If you are planning to attend or you would like to visit either of the two fairs, and you need a personalised agenda with an exhibition tour, B2B meetings and much more, contact us!

To finish, we could visit the Tupinamba Group facilities in Canet de Mar and learn how they develop and manufacture their coffees and hot drinks, with natural products. Tupinamba is a family business with more than 120 years of experience, with which different routes of entry to the Austrian, Latvian and Lithuanian markets were explored.
In addition to the meeting, Safe Smart Food has recently published the ebook on which it has been working for the past few months: a virtual document that captures the main international trends and challenges in the Foodservice and Packaging sectors (such as shared value, promoting entrepreneurship etc.).

EUROPEAN CLUSTERS LAUNCH A FOODSERVICE AND PACKAGING TRENDS EBOOK

European project Safe Smart Food is launching its reference eBook, which discusses main trends and challenges in the Foodservice and Packaging sectors worldwide. The book includes the main insights and summarized information of the 6 webinars carried out by experts throughout the project, and its creation is part of the main tasks of the projectโ€™s working group led by the Cluster Foodservice of Catalonia.

The eBook is addressed to project clustersโ€™ members and to all clustersโ€™ members at international level who might be interested
in reading and having it. The process of creating this eBook began with an internal analysis of the main current trends in the foodservice and packaging sector. Once they were identified, the project members organized 6 webinars starting on February 2021, combining two different areas: clustersโ€™ capabilities (ESCA Label System) and some specialized training areas (such as shared value, promoting entrepreneurship etcโ€ฆ). The goal of the webinars was to understand the main challenges in the foodservice and packaging sectors and so the clusters could acquire the proper skills to address them.

The 6 topics covered both in the webinars and in the eBook are:
1. Excellence in cluster management (ESCA Label System)
2. Promoting entrepreneurship in the cluster ecosystem
3. Shared value across clusters
4. How to make your cluster more profitable with digitalization
5. How to adapt clusters to the main trends and challenges in the food sector
6. Nutrition and Health as a cornerstone of the food sector

In order to take the best out of the webinarsโ€™ content, the members of the project have developed this eBook, which summarizes the main insights of each webinar and is now available to be downloaded for all members of consortiumโ€™s clusters and other clusters and its
members as well.

The Safe Smart Food project is made up of 5 clusters from 4 EU countries, which have joined forces to promote the internationalization of associated clusters and its members. The objectives of the project are to strengthen collaboration between clusters and improve their management capacity to create the conditions for a favourable ecosystem in the agri-food sector to drive innovation, competitiveness and internationalization of SMEs and offer them an integrated service program based on excellence.

Knowledge transfer without national borders!

Looking over the shoulders of the best at work, sharing knowledge and pushing innovation across national borders: these are the common flags to describe the ClusterXchange program. The successfully launched pilot project will be continued - despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

SafeSmartFood - one of the COSME Cluster Excellence projects - Partner - the Food Cluster of Business Upper Austria is in charge of ClusterXchange program.

Online meetings usually last three days. Business Upper Austria acted as virtual host on 10 December and 13/14 January. 20 participants were able to learn about sustainability in Austria through expert inputs and had the chance for networking.

A continuation is planned for 26th of March and two further dates - whether virtually or physically depends on circumstances.

Companies and clusters from the packaging and food industry are welcome to join the meetings! The meetings enable "borderless" business opportunities, expand networks and impart knowledge about foreign markets and cultures.

Workshop dates can be found at www.lebensmittel-cluster.at

SafeSmartFood will support participants throughout the process.

New services programme derived from a 5-year partnership strategy. The Safe Smart Food consortium aims to provide new and better services to the members of all five clusters.

During the last months, the Safe Smart Food team has been working on analysing the food and packaging value chains and their ecosystems in all the countries involved (Austria, Latvia, Lithuania, and Spain) and finding common challenges and opportunities, to elaborate a 5-year common strategy with the main objective of developing common and complementary activities at European level exploiting common synergies and resources.

As a result, five collaboration areas were identified:

1. Reinforce Clusterโ€™s governance, brand reputation and attractiveness and support members in their core business activities;

2. Promote sustainability across value chain;

3. Encourage members competitiveness through innovation;

4. Reinforce international collaboration and information exchange;

5. Lead bigger and bolder projects, including EU ones, with higher impact in the industry.

Within each one of these collaboration areas, new activities and services were defined and will be published soon!

ClusterXchange program starts virtually!

The ClusterXchange program is a new pilot program to support short-term exchanges to better connect Europeโ€™s industrial ecosystems. It aims to facilitate transnational cooperation, peer learning, networking and innovation uptake between actors of different industrial clusters.

An exchange constitutes a stay abroad performed by a visiting organisation from an eligible country at a host organisation in another eligible country. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, virtual exchanges are possible. The program is implemented with support from cluster organizations that have teamed up in European Strategic Cluster Partnerships for Excellence (ESCP-4x), like SafeSmartFood. The consortium consists of five clusters from four different European Countries: Smart Food Cluster (Lithuania), Business Upper Austria (Austria), Packaging Cluster (Spain), Foodservice Cluster (Spain) and Food Products Quality Cluster (Latvia). SafeSmartFood invites all interested cluster organizations, SMEs and Scaling-up support organizations to participate in the program. Each of these categories may apply for an exchange: either as a host organization or as a visiting organization. Participation in the program offers numerous advantages:

Visitors:
๏ƒ˜ Create new business opportunities and get involved in new innovative projects
๏ƒ˜ Expand your network of contacts and develop new cross-border partnerships
๏ƒ˜ Gain knowledge about foreign markets and culture
Hosts:
๏ƒ˜ Develop new cross-border partnerships
๏ƒ˜ Expand your network of contacts
๏ƒ˜ Share your experience/information in specific areas
๏ƒ˜ Increase the visibility of your organization, services and products in relevant communities.

Eligible participants interested in taking part in ClusterXchange, either as visiting or host organization, should apply via the ClusterXchange IT tool. This IT tool is used to manage all of the steps of participating in an exchange:
