Broken Boat Farm LLC
We use goats & sheep for vegetation management and land reclamation projects
ATTENTION RESIDENTS OF FOSTER HILL ROAD AND SURROUNDING STREETS
A bear came onto the property last night, breaking into the back of the barn where the goats are, and thankfully they were able to escape. My neighbor called me at 11pm to say the goats were under his window and the bear was 100ft away at their garage.
Poor Goat Simmons was attacked and bleeding from several spots when we picked him up at the intersection of Chelsea Court & Foster Hill Road. Thankfully the emergency farm vet answered at midnight and I am so grateful all of Goat Simmons’ wounds are minor and did not require the emergency farm vet coming out.
By 2am we had reinforced the back of the barn and cleaned Goat’s wounds, but Wayne Goatzky refused to come anywhere near the barn. I had spent over an hour chasing him around the farm property trying to lure him back with grain to no avail and eventually had to call it at 3am.
Wayne was missing from the property early this morning but thankfully came home just after 9am and was unharmed.
Everyone please be aware and keep your eyes peeled. If the bear attacks your livestock and pets, contact Fish & Game after you have tended to your animals.

We are asked all the time where we buy our farm sleeves from, and the answer is Farmers Defense. I found the company as I was starting my Livestock Landscaping business to protect against poison ivy, oak, & sumac on job sites.
I also love that they are SPF 50 so I do not have to apply sunblock while covered in poisonous plants.

Where did all the fireflies glow?
We get asked the question all the time - hey, why don't I see that many lightning bugs anymore? The simple answer is, maybe your community is no longer a good habitat for them. Before we get to the longer answer of why you're not seeing them anymore, you need to know how this beetle starts out life.
Fireflies lay their eggs in the ground where they then mature into glow worms. It's during this larval stage where they spend all their time eating other, tinier insects. Born and raised in the duff, they need the leaves that naturally litter the ground.
That’s why it's important to leave your backyards and street sides as untouched as possible every autumn to preserve the larvae and small insects living in the leaf litter. This helps to ensure a healthy, new year of fireflies.
Ok, leave the leaves, but what are some other ways to help?
💡Turn off outdoor lights in the evening. If you have inside lights on, close the blinds
💡Plant native plants
💡Mow grass less frequently and raise the length of the cut to 4 inches
💡When leaves drop in the fall, rake them if you want, but keep them in your yard
💡Use non-pesticide solutions for insect control
Check out the comments for more ways you can help re-glow and re-grow the firefly population.
