Fitchburg Basketball got back on track after suffering their first loss of the season last week. The Red Raiders took on a scrappy Hudson Hawks team but squeaked away with the victory 61-56, bringing their record to 5-1 on the season. Fitchburg was led offensively by Doug Dyer who was a beast in the paint and Quenten Bryson, who played one of his best games. Zion Ayala led the defensive charge, also while dishing out several assists offensively. The Red Raiders will finish the regular season next week 10/23 against Bedford, game time will be at 9am.
The Fitchburg Basketball team got a taste of their own medicine as they took a 62-31 drubbing to Essex Tech out of Danvers in the Westford Fall Ball League. Missing several key pieces, the Red Raiders were outnumbered and outmanned. Several players stepped up and played major minutes, but fatigue and injuries took hold. The Red Raiders were led offensively by Omar Rodriguez, Doug Dyer and freshman Mike Beaulac played very well in his role at point guard. Defensively, Jevon Rosemond was stellar and deflected several passes and had several steals. The Red Raiders look to get back on track as they take on Hudson next week at 11am. The Red Raiders are now 4-1
Fitchburg High School Boys Basketball want to send our sincerest condolences to everyone that Coach Raff touched. His family, friends and many student/athletes that call him a friend. This man had a heart of a giant and the passion for coaching that matched. There are not many people like him. Rest in Peace Coach.

What an accomplishment for Fitchburg High junior Stephen Bate, who recently placed second overall in the District E Decathlon.
Bate competed in the two-day District E Decathlon on Tuesday and Wednesday at Shepherd Hill Regional High School, where athletes compete in 10 track and field events.
On Tuesday, Bate competed in the 100m, high jump, long jump, discus, and 400m.
On Wednesday, Bate competed in the 110m hurdles, shot put, javelin, triple jump, and 1500m.
Of these events, Bate competed in 5 of them for the first time ever.
He placed 1st overall in the high jump, and 2nd overall in the long jump, triple jump and 400m.
Retired FHS coach Chris Woods said this is the all-time second best placement by any FHS track athlete.
"Stephen has worked very hard this season on improving his strengths, and being flexible to learn and try new things,β said FHS track coach Sara DiPilato Lamey. βThis event was a perfect chance for him to challenge himself against some talented athletes in Central Massachusetts. Originally, he went in with goals of being able to jump again, but soon became very competitive with the field of athletes. It was really great to see.
