Some very timely rains have resulted in increased growth of certain plant species. One noticeable plant this year in the sage steppe is needle-and-thread grass (Stipa comata). I know, I know it was changed to Hesperostipa comata, but I learned it as Stipa comata. It is a cool season grass that grows best in the cool temperatures of spring. It is barely noticeable some years, but can respond quickly to moisture in the spring.
