Last night, I was on the phone with a friend while she scrolled through pearlsofafrikka.com and I was surprised to find out she didn’t know much about Ghana smocks/Fugu.
I wasn’t surprised because almost all African and even non Africans know about kente but not smocks/Fugu.
Smocks/Fugu is the traditional fabric for Northern Ghana just as kente is for Southern Ghana. For many years, smocks were functioned into the same style all across northern Ghana and were predominantly for Northern men.
Every northern man has a smock in their closet because traditionally, that’s what they are expected to wear to weddings, funerals, Durbars and festivals and all special occasions .
However, time are changing and artist are getting creative with the colors and styles and it’s functionality. Check out to see some of the uses and styles of smocks/ fugu.
One of the reasons smocks are made into simple styles is because the fabric is handwoven like kente and can get heavy. It’s durable and can last for generations.Let me just say this, it’s an asset to own one. You will be surprised how people admire it and how long it will last;there’s nothing like it out there.

I’m thankful for my dear friend sefakor.
I’m grateful to God for her life, her friendship, her kindness and her love.
Iv never met a selfless person like her, if you ever wondered if anyone ever loved their neighbor as themselves, yes, there is and her name is Sefakor.
When it was time for us to pick a Godmother for our daughter, We knew many that will fit the position perfectly but I told my husband I wanted someone who will take care of our daughter like I will. God forbid, but if there was ever a time I wasn’t available to do so. It was clear Sefakor was the perfect person.
Interestingly, without informing me,she took a week vacation to come stay with me a week to delivery.Baby ended up delaying and her date to return to work was up. That same night, I started experiencing signs of labor;my dear friend once again extended her vacation and stood by me the whole time in the hospital.
We live in a world where people can hardly take time off from work for themselves so for her to call and convince them to extend her vacation was beyond my thoughts.
She was one of the first hands to touch my daughter when she was born. ❤️
Iv had many friends over my life and I’m grateful to many for the gift of friendship but this lady right here is worthy of celebrating on a special day like this.
I’m thankful I have her as a friend.❤️
