Carl Baxmeyer for St. Joe County Commissioner

Sunday afternoon was another great win for the ND Women's Basketball team and we appreciate them sharing the spotlight with the Harper Cancer Research Center and area breast cancer survivors - including Susan! She was escorted this year by ND Football team member #22 Ben Minich and they found #7 Jaden Mickey who escorted her last year!

Susan and I had the pleasure of attending the 2024 Reins of Life dinner and auction. The work they do is incredible! We remember our friends Lloyd and Nancy Taylor, two of the founding members, and we were happy to be at this event. Bob Montgomery and Chuck Freeby were fantastic as MC and Auctioneer.

I was proud to sit in the gallery and represent St. Joseph County Tuesday night at the Governor's "State of the State" address to a joint session of the Indiana General Assembly. He recognized Samsung-SDI's investment with General Motors for the building of an EV battery factory, creating thousands of new jobs in St. Joseph County.

Congrats to Tony Hazen on his announcement that he will be a candidate for 3rd District County Commissioner to replace Dr. Deb Fleming who will retire January 31.

Glad to support the Mishawaka Food Pantry at their 15th Annual Gala with Kent and Beth Hizer and Bob Schell and Deb Fleming.

Enjoyed a great start to the musical season of Christmas at the Notre Dame Glee Club and Symphony concert with friends. These students are so talented - We all thought it was just excellent!

Thanks to Allison at Hilton Garden Inn and John Phair at Holliday Properties for the invitation to join them at the Client Dinner and Tree Lighting Ceremony. The tallest Christmas Tree in the USA looks great on SR 933 for all to see!

Our Halloween tradition is Susan makes a pot of chili and I pass out the candy. Not as many trick-or-treaters as usual with the cold weather, but still fun!

We had a great table at the 32nd Annual Right to Life Michiana Benefit Dinner. There were hundreds of people filling the 7th and 8th floors of the Dahnke Ballroom at Notre Dame. Our good friends, Walter and Elaine Nicgorski, were an excellent choice for Honorary Chair Couple. Dr. Alveda King offered heartfelt conversation for us all. What a positive evening!

37 years ago we said "I do". Celebrating with a Happy Anniversary dinner!

I was very pleased to accept the 2023 Local Government Cooperation Award on behalf of St. Joseph County, and the City of South Bend, at the recent Association of Indiana Counties conference. The Award was in recognition of the outstanding work done by the director Katerina Carter and the staff at our Archives and Records Center. Good Job Katerina and staff!

It was my honor to join everyone at St. Patrick's County Park for the Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony today. The South Bend Fire Department, along with Clay Fire Territory, Mishawaka Fire Department, Saint Joseph and South Bend Police departments were hosts. Always good to see friends Mark McGill (again did a great job as the MC) and US Rep. Rudy Yakym (was an excellent guest speaker). Never forget.

Hot Summer Night - we enjoyed being part of the crowd at The History Museum's "Music in the Gardens" event!

Thank you to the SJC departments for providing 2022 annual reports so I could give the "State of the County" address Tuesday at the County Council meeting. Over 1300 employees working to make St. Joseph County the best it can be!

We were grateful for, as SB Regional Chamber CEO Jeff Rea said, "A Chamber of Commerce weather day!", last Thursday for our 2nd Annual Baxmeyer Golf Outing at Juday Creek. A great group of golfers on hand to enjoy the morning and support the on-going campaign efforts. Special Thanks to former SJC Commissioner Andy Kostielney for all his help! A very successful event. Thank you to our daughter-in-law Alex for arranging a round of golf for me with our son, John. Really enjoyed hitting the links with him. Super fun after spending a little time with our sweet grandson, Lucca. Great Father's Day for me!

Jobs and Investment - GM and Samsung SDI say YES to St. Joe County! After months of discussion and hard work, the largest economic development project in St. Joseph County (and maybe all of Indiana) history has happened. General Motors, with partner Samsung SDI, will build an EV battery complex on about 650 acres of land in the Indiana Enterprise Center, east of New Carlisle. Bill Schalliol, Executive Director of SJC Economic Development and Jeff Rea, President and CEO of the South Bend Regional Chamber of Commerce, who led the effort, were both elated. The County Commissioners, Council, and the Redevelopment Commission were key partners in assembling and supporting the development package that resulted in this win for St. Joseph County. After an estimated two years to complete a massive three million square foot complex employing over two thousand construction jobs, the GM/Samsung project will bring 1,600 full-time jobs to St. Joseph County - something I am especially proud of.

Susan and I are thrilled to let everyone know we became Grandparents on April 7th!!! Lucca Benjamin Baxmeyer was born to our son John and his beautiful wife Alex. We are just over the moon!

I am very please to be able to serve on the South Bend – Elkhart Regional Partnership Board of Directors.

Very pleased to join fellow Co. Commissioners (and US Rep. Rudy Yakym) at our Awards Recognition Banquet to honor monthly winners. Wilbur Lawson, a 100 year old WWII Veteran, received the County's highest honor the Council Oak Award. A Key to the County was presented to South Bend Chocolate owner and Indiana Dinosaur Museum developer, Mark Tarner. Congratulations to all who add so much to St. Joseph County!

Susan and I were so pleased to be invited by Jenn and Josh Gobel to join their table at the 6th Biennial Christ the King Auction Dinner February 10th. Gillespie Center was filled with over 400 guests and lots of really neat auction items. Great event!

What a Swearing-In Ceremony! Saturday, December 31st was a standing room only crowd at Juday Creek Club House. Appreciated having both Judge Jeff Sanford and Judge Jamie Woods with us. Swearing-in for 17 Republicans including lots of Township Trustees and Board Members as well as, new St. Joseph Co. Council members Joe Thomas, Amy Drake and Dan Schaetzle, SJC Assessor Mike Castellon. SJC Clerk Amy Rolfes and SJC Commissioner - me! Ready for 2023 and working for the best for St. Joseph County.

Showed John and Alex the County Commissioner office too!

We had a wonderful Christmas weekend with our son and daughter-in-law, John and Alex in town. Just sorry son Mark could not be here too.

We were very pleased to honor County Assessor, Rosemary Mandrici with a Key to the County. She has been the St. Joseph County Assessor since 2010. I congratulate her on these many years of service and hope she enjoys retirement!

A simple "Thank You" seems inadequate to the thousands of people who voted for me and the hundreds of people who had my campaign sign in their yard and/or donated to my campaign. Another "Thank You" to the dozens of people who went door to door with me and the very special group that made up my campaign committee. A big "Thank You" to the folks who gave me their endorsement in our radio and social media ads. Each of you helped make this successful effort possible. All of us together.

I am grateful to have been on the ballot with so many good people who will make a positive difference in the direction of St Joseph County. I am thankful for the mentorship of Andy Kostielney and for the leadership that Rudy Yakym provided. I appreciate the understanding and hard work of my family and especially Susan. I look forward to the next four years.

Nov. 8th - Election Day! I'm out greeting voters with Amy Rolfes and Amy Drake at Clay High School (where our sons John and Mark went!) Today's the day - please take a minute and vote - the future of St. Joe County depends on it. Thanks!
