Very thrilled to receive the news that what I consider to be my most complex and earliest accomplishments 40x40 large format canvas acrylic painting Un Becoming has sold at Concave Gallery in Perth. She reflects a time of deep emotion and personal transition for me. It is exciting to know that she has been adopted into another world for their enjoyment and consideration.

Thank you to Keith and Concave Gallery for making my 60th birthday epic with this personal best acquisition!

Thought for the day:

I’ve been that girl who romanticized the daydream of what it would be like to be an artist in studio as I began this journey. Picturing the windows open, perfect air and light, brushes, canvas and easel, hair flowing in the breeze … never did I picture the dig deep get down to the earth dirty torn clothes, mallet and chisel reality breaking down a $400 block of wax (no easy feat) and precious box of resin crystals that you drove hours to get both and treat them like gold because they are, moving the weight of both and taking two years and several knocks to the fingers, scraped knuckles and knees, sore back to get though it all.

And then there’s the hours very carefully preparing and storing precious product for use. Because there are definitely rules. and it is not a quick process. But you love it. Days of making wax block are therapy days. The mallet and chisel? Oh yeah… those are very good for curing what ails you. You all know those days I’m talking about. And it doesn’t have to be this - my encaustic love. Each of us have our get down day. The one we didn’t see when we romanticized ahead as we dove into trying this on. But if you’re all in, you really are. And these dirty, raw, fabulously exerting effort filled parts are the very best of them.

This is seriously getting addictive. I love where these are going. Just a pause for the cause to show off number 2 in this set cause I’m a proud mama and back to the art table to lay down number 3 🙂. So so happy 😁

Okay before I can move forward with the series I could really use a bit of feedback. I am always personally attached to the work I do so it can be difficult to be objective but I am so digging on this concept. The photography is my original artwork as is the painted encaustic finish. I’m not sure yet what to call it but basically it’s a view of a birch tree through an old broken and cracked window which I hope is evident. Definitely with a vintage effect. Cause it’s me heh 😏. So … yay or nay?

This is one of my absolute favourite pieces I’ve ever done and she continues to be an inspiration for future work. So much so that I have decided to create a mini series - first piece is up today 🙂. The original piece is called Meta and was created on a 30x30 gallery board. The newer ones will become mini me’s 😉. Encaustic and oils on 8x8 cradle board.

My first encaustics in new surroundings! Always an adventure getting used to a new setup and the available light which is tricky on a moody November day but that oversized window really came through for me 🙂. I almost bailed on my promise to self to dig deep and start painting again even when I don’t quite feel it because I miss the connection and mental wellness of the artistic outlet. Then there’s the undeniable satisfaction when you actually DO surprise yourself and pull out not just one but two pieces that you really like :))). And in a new seasonally appropriate palette. Now I just need to name them 🤔… Encaustic wax handmade and oils on 8x6 gallery wood block.

I have a few listings on Marketplace for items that I am selling right now as I prepare to move. If you are interested in any, please reach out to me through the ad. All items are in new/as new condition as they are unopened and never used. The only exception is that I used the R&F hot plate minimally twice and it is in impeccable condition.

R&F encaustic hot plate 16x16
Art Resin Epoxy Kit - 1 gallon Kit
Gamblin Cold Wax Medium - 2 full gallons

I will be adding a few more items as I go along. I have some large canvases and panels as well to put up that I have to photograph as they are at the condo right now. Most items are pick up only in Lanark but if you can catch me on a day when I’m coming into Ottawa, I can meet up for pick up.

This abstract palette has shown itself to be a watery landscape. I never truly know how a painting might turn out until I’ve spent multiple visits with it searching for the image I know is waiting to reveal itself to me. While water and mountains or cliffs are a constant call for me, each one is still a delightful surprise when it finally comes through. Cold wax and oils on 48x36 gallery wood panel
