Judges - World Veteran Show 09/10/2020

We are going to introduce you our judging team one by one in a short interview 🤓
Lloyd Simmons, Lonnkyle (Canada)
𝟭. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗼𝗹𝗳𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀? 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝘁?
I acquired my first IW while still in University, actually form one of the other panelists Deborah Sanders,in March of 1974. I bred my first liter in 1984 I spent the previous 10 years learning as much as I could form more experienced breeders nd fanciers.

2. 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 „𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀“ 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗹𝗳𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀? 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘆?
I don't have any at this time. I have a 7 year old who may be shown next year depending on the length of drive to the speciality I have shown veterans in the past.

𝟯. 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 „𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀“ 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗹𝗳𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀? 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘆?
I always have a special feeling when the veterans go into the ring, a tingle up my spine, very similar to seeing the veterans attending remembrance day ceremonies.

𝟰. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗪𝗗𝗕.𝗼𝗿𝗴? 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁? 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗳𝘂𝗹?
IWDB has become a very useful tool in reviewing my breeding plans, as well as improving my knowledge of past dogs.

We are going to introduce you our judging team one by one in short interview 🤓

John Lewington, Greycroft (AUS)
𝟭. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗼𝗹𝗳𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀? 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝘁?
We had our first Irish Wolfhound in 1975,and Ch Fianna Angus, was our first Champion. We bred a litter under the Greycroft prefix after we had owned Irish Wolfhounds for 10 years.
Over the years we bred many Champions. A very special event for us was attending the Australia’s Top dog competition, held in Canberra. Supreme Ch Greycroft In Like Flynn “Errol” who was owned and shown by Kristy Pearcey won Australia’s Top Dog award in 2015, the first and only Irish Wolfhound in history to qualify and then win this event. The judges were two from America and one from South Africa. Errol is now 8 years’ old and enjoying retirement.

2. 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 „𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀“ 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗹𝗳𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀? 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘆?
Over the years we have had a number that we have shown in veteran including Ch Greycroft Annika (2010 – 2017). She lived to almost 8 years old and was the dam of Errol plus our own Multi Specialty winner Ch Greycroft Irish Storm who is now 7 years old.
We bred the first South Australian Grand Champion male and he was as well first dual titled with his Neuter Championship, Grand and Neuter Champion Greycroft Memphis (3 Oct 08 – 30 Sept 16).

𝟯. 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 „𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀“ 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗹𝗳𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀? 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘆?
Yes I do, I have a very soft spot for the Veterans. When judging the New England Irish Wolfhound Specialty in 2012 in Rhode Island U S A, I asked the photographer if he would mind coming and taking a picture of my veteran dogs and bi***es as a keepsake for me to take back to Australia. I just love seeing and judging those veterans.

𝟰. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗪𝗗𝗕.𝗼𝗿𝗴? 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁? 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗳𝘂𝗹?
The Database is an incredible tool for looking up pedigrees, doing trial breedings, etc. it has so much information and we very much appreciate all the work that has gone to producing it.

We are going to introduce you our judging team one by one in short interview 🤓

Velda Clark, Tarlog (IRL)
𝟭. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗼𝗹𝗳𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀? 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝘁?
I have been involved with our magnificent breed everyday since 1970, in the days of the big kennels working with the Ballykelly hounds.
My first bitch a gift from Sheelagh Seale was Ballykelly Macushla.
I cannot imagine my life without hounds in it.

2. 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 „𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀“ 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗹𝗳𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀? 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘆?
I have been fortunate to have shared my life with many veterans over the years. I adore all my hounds but the veterans are so special their character and wisdom just shines through as they grow old gracefully. I find it astonishing that even mad youngsters turn into wise old hounds.

𝟰. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗪𝗗𝗕.𝗼𝗿𝗴? 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁? 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗳𝘂𝗹?
Thank you to all involved in the Irish Wolfhound Data Base. I have used it many times spending hours looking at pedigrees.

We are going to introduce you our judging team one by one in short interview 🤓

Deborah Sanders, Niobrara (US)
𝟭. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗼𝗹𝗳𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀? 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝘁?
I fell in love with Irish Wolfhounds as a teenager and purchased my first in 1971. I was fortunate enough to own the first IW dual CH in the US (AKC CH & ASFA FCH), CH Just Plain Joshua Murphy FCH. Over the years I have bred infrequently using the Niobrara prefix and always strive to produce hounds of quality, character, and health. I have enjoyed judging Irish Wolfhound Sweepstakes in the US & Canada.

𝟮. 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗹𝗳𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿/𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗴𝗲?
I’ve had the pleasure of sharing my life with a number of veterans over the years. Most recently CH MacCaura Chaco at Niobrara, won Veteran Dog at the 2018 IWCA National. The same year his daughter CH Niobrara Maud Gonne won BOS; and the following year she won Veteran Bitch and AOM at the National.

𝟯. 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 „𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀“ 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗹𝗳𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀? 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘆?
I believe that our veterans are the greatest gift a breeder or owner can have. A grand, vital veteran is a breeder’s reward for the hard work to protect and preserve the breed! Our veterans are such a special joy to live with, they know our ways and can often times read our minds.
There is nothing that I love more than to see a shapely, well-conditioned veteran moving with power and grace. There is nothing I cringe at more than to see a crippled, out of condition hound being drug around a show ring just to win an oldest hound award! Our veterans deserve more dignity than that.

𝟰. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗪𝗗𝗕.𝗼𝗿𝗴? 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁? 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗳𝘂𝗹?
My deepest thanks to all involved in creating and maintaining the Irish Wolfhound Data Base. What a gift you have given our breed!!! The old days of overflowing files of handwritten pedigrees are gone, and good riddance!

We are going to introduce you our judging team one by one in short interview 🤓

Pam Sumner, Ballyphelan (UK)
𝟭. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗼𝗹𝗳𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀? 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝘁?
My husband John and I have owned and loved Wolfhounds for 54 years. We started showing seriously in 1977 and breeding in 1982.
We have have had numerous champions both at home and abroad and hold the British breed record for the most champions born in the same litter. Our latest champion is Ballyphelan Anna Lisa and her brother Amadeus has 1CC up to now. These youngsters are from what will be our last litter as we have made the decision not to breed anymore. We had a pack of 13 at one time but are now down to a pack of 5 which includes 2 seniors. Sophie is almost 8 and Rosy Ryan is 7 1/2.

𝟮. 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗹𝗳𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿/𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗴𝗲?
Over the years we have shown quite a few veterans with Tarlach, Raven and Damson being the most successful in the ring. Damson was veteran of the year in 2016.

𝟯. 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 „𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀“ 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗹𝗳𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀? 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘆?
Our seniors and veterans are all special as to have them still with us through their twilight years is wonderful.

𝟰. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗪𝗗𝗕.𝗼𝗿𝗴? 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁? 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗳𝘂𝗹?
The IWDB is amazing and I use it frequently as my memory for facts and pedigrees is not what it used to be. May I thank everyone of you who has given our breed this wonderful gift. Your hard work s much appreciated.

On the picture: CH Ballyphelan Tarlach Dubh aged 7 and a half. He lived until he was 10 a half.
