Join us on Tuesday night! Mark Glantz and Toni Morgan will be representing Communication & Media Studies as part of SNC Coming Out Week’s Virtual Teach-In series. They’ll be joined by Lucas Hackenburg, a communication scholar whose research focuses on guncles (gay uncles).
They never got around to mentioning how much Dr. Kretz knows about Grey’s Anatomy or how loud Coach Glantz gets when he talks about Bruno Mars songs, but it’s still very nice to be recognized as a Top 50 Communication and Media Studies Program.

Congratulations to all our graduates! It was great chatting with you after the commencement ceremony today.
There's a new Assistant Professor of Communication & Media Studies in town! Toni Morgan recently completed her PhD at the University of Nebraska. She'll be teaching courses like Family Communication, Intergroup Communication, and Communication Theory. She's run a few 10k races, logged a few thousand miles traveling the country in an RV as a kid, and thanks to time spent in Texas, you might hear her say "y'all" every now and then. If you see her this week, welcome her to SNC!
Nice work, Dr Kretz!
Miss hitting the books? In a new occasional feature, your St. Norbert education continues as we profile a course or lecture taught by our own faculty. And this time, there’s no final!

The recent killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and so many others symbolize the longstanding existence of institutionalized racism. These tragic acts of racism have brought together communities across the globe to peacefully protest the injustices, and call for necessary change. At this time, the Communication & Media Studies faculty would like to voice our support of Black students and students of color. Moreover, we want to affirm our own commitment to the following: 1) to implement anti-racist pedagogy in the classroom, 2) to model anti-racism in our daily actions on and off campus, and 3) to create brave spaces to hold vulnerable conversations regarding privilege, systemic racism, and genuine allyship to marginalized communities.
All of YOU can stand in solidarity with the Black community, including other students, faculty, and everyone in our communities, both near and far, speaking against racism. We present you with two challenges: 1) to learn about anti-racism activism, and to model that lifestyle, and 2) to reflect on what you have learned about communication at St. Norbert and consider ways these lessons have equipped you to engage in vital conversations about racism, hatred, and injustice. These conversations may be difficult and imperfect, but are essential to engage in.
If you get a chance, send Rachel Schmidt a message that asks how she got so awesome. She’s the recipient of the 2020 Reverend Isadore Gosz Award for excellence in Media Studies. She would have been honored at a fancy ceremony but a pandemic ruined everyone’s fun. For now, a Facebook post will have to suffice. Congrats, Rachel!
