BRE’S STUDY GUIDE:
I’ve watched this twice now, but lately I’ve been on a journey of digging deep into who REGINA (our main character is). Who is she connected to the matriarchs before her. This documentary gave me so beautiful inspiration. I’ve listening to the “Sacred words of Black women” and allowing myself to sit in their stories.
Have y’all seen it?
Last weekend the queens were together again, this time making a short with Team for the ! Special thanks to Tracy Davis for capturing this moment!

“There’s this long tunnel by my sublet and it takes about 3 minutes to walk from one end to the other. The walls are filled with graffiti. My first time walking through it was a little scary. I mean look at it, but this time something stuck out to me. LOVED.
It reminded me of a passage in bell hooks book ‘all about love’ she talks about walking past a graffiti wall on her daily commute. Seeing that word made me ask myself am I living the life of love as a practice?”
Bell Hooks says “To open our hearts more fully to love’s power and grace we must dare to acknowledge how little we know of love in both theory and practice.”
So, as we celebrate and ask yourself are you operating from a place a love? Do we really understand love as a theory?
We all need it and we all deserve it.
So happy we were able to attend the premiere for new film. Congratulations on all the hard work!!!
Uplifting art to start your week
BRE’s STUDY GUIDE:
Have y’all seen this semi-autobiographical documentary about the life and work of ZORA NEALE HURSTON?
Well just watched it and says “it feels like I’m picking up where Zora left off. I feel so connected and aligned in her journey. I feel called to study her work in ways I’ve never felt before. Zora is calling me and I’m listening.”
“Zora Neale Hurston was the Queen of the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s. She was one of America's most widely-published novelists in the 1930s, and would eventually become world-famous for her masterpiece novel Their Eyes Were Watching God about a young black woman's search for freedom and identity. Trained as an anthropologist by cultural modernist Franz Boas, Zora traveled the American South and the Caribbean through Guggenheim grants, documenting the culture of ex-slaves, filming them, interviewing them, recording their music and their tales. Her keen ear for dialect and her ability to render black speech into readable dialogue endeared her to many loyal readers, both black and white.”
•
Also, some call her the first African American filmmaker. Did you know that???
•
If you’ve read or experienced Zora’s brilliance, please share below.
