I had the privilege of being a part of the panel of judges at the Womenprenuer Pitchathon. What a humbling experience.

On Friday December 22, 2023, the winner of the Womenpreneur Pitch-A-Ton Zambia was unveiled, selected from 25 finalists from a pool of over 750 applicants.

Esther Nalwamba, Chief Executive Officer of Chibanga Free Range Farm Limited, whose agribusiness enterprise secured her the grand prize emerged winner, followed by Ndita Mulimbeni, founder of Tadala Association, a sustainable agriculture organisation while Justinah Jendo Co-Founder of Situ-Jay Enterprises, a logistics-focused business emerged 3rd.

Kudos to Access Bank and the W Community as they celebrate not only the women participant’s entrepreneurial spirit but believe in empowering them to drive positive change in various sectors of their businesses and thank you for having me as a part of it.

It is wonderful that non-traditional avenues to earn money have opened up in the form of entrepreneurship. Also understanding that not everyone is cut out to run a business.

How then do we move from thinking everyone should be an Entrepreneur to encouraging Entrepreneurial thinking whether you are employed or running your own business. The goal is to become valuable in either scenarios should you ever need to choose.

People that are Entrepreneurial in their thinking are value driven. They adopt critical thinking and embrace innovation and continuous improvement. They are the ones you see solving every day problems and are getting paid too regardless of whether they are the founders of the company or not.

Leveraging on your skill-set to maximize your earning potential doesn't always mean starting your own business under the basis that "Everyone is an entrepreneur!- it is more important to be entrepreneurial in your thinking and to find ways to add value and get paid wherever you are".

Starting your own business is great! But again it is not easy. Harsh as it may sound it really isn't for everyone, the earlier you realise it, the better.. This is to point out the fact that there are other options that you're good at that you can maximize on and make your income thicker.

You might find yourself in the category of people that are passionate about their work (career) that are doing great in employment especially when there's room for growth. Trust me when i say you can start a business in any phase of your life. The key is to only pursue the ideas that keep you up at night.

Suggestion: Focus on expanding your role in your current work position especially when you're passionate about the work you do in your organisation. Spread out a growth plan with time targets to reach a certain position in the organisation that you desire, then find ways to add value to yourself and the organisation.
The point of every business/company is to make a profit. Growing the bottom line. Pitch an idea to the company that will help generate income.

Employee or Entrepreneur, Entrepreneurial thinking is mandatory to succeed in any field. Also, please invest in advancing your education and skills. The world is looking for individuals considered as Assets in any organization. The more difficult it is to replace you, the more you get paid 🙂.

I know, the temptation is absolutely high to grab everything but when it comes to Consumer Goods and Services, to ensure you shop safe and have no regrets after Black Friday, here are a few tips;

⚠️ Pay attention to the fine print: Take note of the terms and conditions when buying online.

⚠️ Return or cancellation policies that are not clear and upfront are a big red flag.

⚠️ Take note of “no refund policies” and enquire about the store’s warranties and guarantees over and above the implied warranty protection provided CCPC Competition and Consumer Protection Commission- Zambia.

⚠️ Inspect goods before buying in store (especially for perishables) or upon delivery when buying online. Do not accept delivery if it is not what you were expecting or has been damaged or altered in any way.

⚠️ Don’t be penny wise: When buying electronics or bigger household goods in store, pay a little more for the supplier to deliver rather than arranging your own transport to avoid liability for damaged items (Black Friday is also used to dispose of faulty items)

⚠️ Admin is your friend: Keep all receipts for at least six months or whatever extended warranty period that accompanies your purchase.

Black Friday and Festive online shopping is an opportunity for scammers to take advantage of you. Beware of emails and text messages from the “shops” you regularly shop from or any delivery service asking for money to deliver your item.

While you are trying to find the best way to stretch your money on Black Friday, Fraud Prevention is key. We are warned that scammers are very active during this time. These are some of the scams to watch out for as you enjoy Black Friday sales.

𝐒𝐩𝗼𝗼𝐟𝐞𝐝 𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬: Domain spoofing is when a scammer uses fake websites or Facebook Accounts that mimic the actual websites of businesses. Outside of the domain name, the website can look identical to the trusted site. The spoofed website might collect personal information, including money or even payment details when you try to make a purchase.

𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐛𝗼𝗼𝐤 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝗺𝗺𝐞𝐫𝐬: These includes most of the fraudulent activities listed above and include cons such as:
• Asking consumers to pay a fee in advance and not sending the product.
• Presenting flyers for products that are on a malicious or proxy website.
• Charging extremely low prices for products.

From September 29th to October 30th, 2023, we observed various changes in the share prices of several companies. The following companies experienced an increase in their share prices: CEC Africa Investment (CCAF) saw an increase from K0.40 to K0.44, Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) increased from K6.60 to K7.60, Metal Fabricators of Zambia (ZMFA) went from K4.83 to K4.90, Standard Chartered Bank Zambia (SCBL) rose from K1.40 to K1.50, Zambeef Products (ZMBF) increased from K2.23 to K2.54, Zambia Bata Shoe Company (BATA) moved from K2.60 to K2.70, Zanaco (ZNCO) went from K3.70 to K3.80, and Zambia Sugar (ZSUG) surged from K17.99 to K20.00. On the other hand, Madison Financial Services (MAFS) dropped from K2.47 to K1.86.

But Wealth is hidden. It is income not spent. Wealth is an option not yet taken, to buy something later. It’s value lies in offering you future options, flexibility, and growth to one day purchase more items than you could right now.

The problem for many of us is that it is easy to find “rich” role models. It is much harder to find WEALTHY ones because by definition, their success is more hidden.

But the truth is that wealth is what you don't see.

Wealth is the nice cars not purchased. The diamonds not bought. The watches not worn, the clothes forgone and the first-class upgrade declined. Wealth is financial assets that haven't yet been converted into the stuff you see.

The danger here is that I think most people, deep down, want to be wealthy. They want freedom and flexibility, which is what financial assets not yet spent can give you. But it is so ingrained in us that to have money is to spend money that we don't get to see the restraint it takes to actually be wealthy. And since we can't see it, it's hard to learn about it.

But give yourself time to collect Assets, become Wealthy, then spend without limits! That’s the GOAL!

In my journey as an IFA and talking to people about money and investments, the common item that usually comes up is some people are quite disappointed with investments that were sold to them as very lucrative, but the moment they got into the investment, they realized it was absolutely not worth the hype. I was hoping we could look at why that is so today.

It's completely normal to feel disappointed when an investment doesn't meet your expectations. However, taking the time to understand the reasons behind your disappointment can help you make more informed decisions.

Here are a few reasons why you might be disappointed with your investment returns:

𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐒𝐂𝐀𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐃 𝐎𝐑 𝐋𝐈𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐎
I will start with the most obvious reason why most people end up disappointed. Simply put, someone sold you a lie. And the easiest way to do this to anyone is to promise them quick returns and significantly higher returns than what is being offered in the capital markets. Most of the people that I have talked to that have been scammed, were scammed because the deal sounded better than the basic investment vehicles or bonds that take too long and too much money to make sense. I actually met someone who feels that these mainstream investments we keep talking about cannot make anyone wealthy. Well,… now you know why it is quite easy to scam people who think like this. Because all you have to do is offer them a better alternative to the mainstream investments, tell them how K10,000 can easily grow to K50,000 and AGAIN! You have your victim.


𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝐎𝐅 𝐏𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄:
Investing is a long-term game.
If you ask me, I honestly believe that patience is the most underrated investment skill. If people had a little more patience with their investments and with money matters as a whole, we would have a better experience as investors. The thing is we are often sold the dream of quick returns and a whole lot of wealth in a short time. And we keep buying that LIE.

There are no quick gains in investment. As a matter of fact, the best way to get rich is to get rich steadily. Because that is what is sustainable regardless of your income level. Also, think about it…. no really. If it was that easy to make money, wouldn't we all have already done it as experts in the finance and investments field? 🤔

All good things take time, consistency and patience. This applies to having a robust investment portfolio as well.


𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝗼𝐟 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝗼𝐟 𝐡𝗼𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝗺𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝗼𝐫𝐤𝐬:
Most people dive into the deep end of investing without understanding the basics of investing and how it works. Remember, no one taught us these things in school, so no matter how old or experienced you are in life, it is not always obvious that you are going to be good with money and investing.

You must invest in learning the actual basics of being an investor. For instance, what exactly are Bonds and how do they work? When should one consider them? How exactly does the LUSE work? What are dividends and how does one make them? What is the difference between simple interest and compound interest for an investor? How do low risk and high risk investments play out in real life? Not knowing these things from scratch leads to major disappointment because you have all the wrong expectations. Educating yourself on the fundamentals of your investments can lead to more informed decisions and potentially improved returns.


𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝗼𝐟 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐢𝗺𝐞
But bottomline, are you investing for short-term goals like paying school fees, or for long-term objectives like retirement? Your investments should be directly linked to your investment horizon. Unit Trusts for example, are great for short-term investment horizons while stocks are good for long-term investments. Matching your investments with your goals is key, otherwise, you might end up quite unhappy.

Understanding the relationship between risk and reward can help set more realistic expectations.

Hello everyone! An absolute joy to be here after a while. Hope your Journey to Financial Freedom is taking shape and you’re embracing Investing in your day to day lives.

In the whirlwind of Investment Advisory, I rediscovered the essence of 'Who Am I, Uninterrupted?' What I could possibly achieve if there were no variables in the way, coupled with No excuses. This year was a journey of rest, hitting a pause and embracing my role at Money Acumen and growth. Stepping back from the digital realm allowed me to reacquaint with the core values that drive Money Acumen Advisory Ltd, the team and myself as an individual.

I was recently exposed to Leadership from a more narrow focus perspective, I found, is more than delegation; it's more accountability. As an Investment Advisor, I've learned growth isn't just in portfolios, but in people, those leading and more importantly those being led.

I must say, balancing the demands of leadership and personal growth is a feat. Boundaries and self-care became my allies. Also I realize, a well-rested, focused individual is more valuable to their team as they guide through the complexities of the world of Investments and Finance

The Ripple Effect: Family and friends saw a more focused, empathetic, and driven person. Clarity and authenticity resonated, this resolved to strengthening intentional relationships in my personal life.

Conclusion: This year's journey reaffirmed that being intentional is a dynamic journey of growth. Investing in oneself and the team yields remarkable progress. Excited for what lies ahead at Money Acumen Advisory.

From challenging you to stand up for yourself, to teaching you the dynamics of inward/outward awareness, the concept of stagnation, the untaught syllabus of the corporate world and plenty more.
