I'm also opening Lamaze Mini Classes beginning July 28th! A 90-minute virtual course discussing the Lamaze 6 Healthy Birth Practices. These will be LIVE - not prerecorded - so I'll be there to answer any questions you may have! Private sessions are available as well as group classes every other Sunday! Giving birth in 2024 and considering hiring a doula? Live in New Jersey? My bookings are now OPEN! I am still taking on virtual doula clients but am excited to attend in-person births now that my daughter has arrived. As mentioned in recent stories, I will be offering a discounted rate to my first three in-person clients of 2024 ✨ as I am completing the births needed to finalize my DONA certification. Between The Olives now offers both In-Person and Virtual Doula support, but you may be wondering… which is right for me?

🌿Ultimately, it’s up to you what’s best for your family and your situation! If you have someone specific in mind who isn’t local, your hospital policy doesn’t allow for doulas, or you want this space to just be you and your partner - virtual may be the perfect fit!

🌿If you prefer someone to be in the room to take more of the lead in providing physical comfort, give your partner a break, or you know you may have a more complicated birth, in-person would definitely be more up your alley!

🌿Regardless of what you choose, the benefits to having a doula are huge and backed by research - and we are ready to help before, during, and after your birth!

Why are doulas so important in the birth world? They are seen by many as the “secret weapon” during labor and delivery, and there’s research to prove that it’s true! Continuous support throughout labor, particularly having someone with some level of training, has many benefits to both parents. Whether in a hospital, birth center, or at home - doulas are an invaluable asset and an amazing addition to your birth team!

This week I’ll be discussing each of Lamaze International’s 6 Healthy Birth Practices!

Lamaze has a long-standing reputation for being “that breathing class”. I know we’ve all seen the hoo-hoo-hee’s on TV and in the movies 😤😮‍💨! In reality, the basis of Lamaze Childbirth Education is actually much more than diaphragmatic breathing (that’s still important though - practice your breaths)! The Healthy Birth Practices are at the core of what they teach, used to promote a safe, healthy, and physiological birth.

That being said, please note that certain situations may demand a deviation from these practices - when indicated, some medical interventions are necessary and can be life saving. However, learning through the lens of these six practices can help you learn to navigate those moments and decisions, and empower you to feel in-control during your birth.
