Last ๐ง๐๐ฒ๐๐ฑ๐ฎ๐, ๐ ๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐ญ, an important event was held, organized by the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma under the patronage of ICOM Italia. The event brought together seven partners from five different European Union countries (Italy, Spain, Portugal, Serbia, and Cyprus), including four universities, a research center, an academic network, and a private IT enterprise.
During the event, the development of digital strategies, a key component influencing the museum ecosystem, was discussed. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the lack of dedicated professionals and specific learning paths, especially at the higher educational level. ๐ช๐บ๐
The main objective of the DCBox โ Digital Curator Training & Tool Box project is the investigation of the Digital Curator figure, a new and relevant profession that has become essential due to the growing need for digital, smart, and connected cultural offerings, both for on-site and online museum visits. However, there is currently no universally accepted reference framework defining the skills and competencies a Digital Curator should possess. ๐ผ๐ก
The results of the DCBox project testify to an evolving landscape and call for a continued commitment from universities and museums to develop effective and sustainable solutions to ensure heritage knowledge and dissemination. ๐๐๏ธ
The event had the following main objectives:
โข Exchange knowledge, lessons learned, and best practices on how to enhance the professional figure of the digital curator with an innovative, cross-cutting, and collaborative approach;
โข Debate on how to better connect academia and cultural institutions through a digital approach;
โข Enlarge the network of stakeholders potentially interested in the DCBox project, persuading them to follow up with the project activities or engage with individual project partners.
The event was of interest to academic and research staff, museum professionals, cultural technology experts, and specialists in digitalization and virtual reality for cultural enhancement, students, and anyone interested in exploring the opportunities digitalization offers for cultural enhancement. ๐โจ

We're happy to share a glimpse into our latest activities carried out by the University of Cรณrdoba: the Living LAB on Digital Library! ๐ In January 2024, our dedicated students embarked on a captivating journey, delving into the rich history encapsulated within the archaeological collection of the Local Museum of Fuente Obejuna, nestled in the heart of Cรณrdoba, Spain. From the Neolithic era to the Roman Age, every artifact tells a story of its own.
๐ Through scientific photographic data acquisition, their focus lies in the creation of photogrammetric 3D models, breathing life into these relics from the past. But that's not all! Students and teachers are also on a mission to build an online digital repository, ensuring that these digital twins are accessible to all, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for our shared cultural heritage. ๐๐ป
