Do you save your eggshells? I always save these beauties to add to my garden soil. In my household, we eat a lot of eggs, bake with eggs and use eggs for skin and hair care.
Shells are saved, washed and then baked or sun dried to dry them out even further. Drying out the shells ensures that the membrane in the egg is completely dry and will allow the eggs to break down a lot faster - this makes them even easier to crush too!
Here’s how to save them.
Start by cracking your eggs and using them as you please. Save the shell! Wash the shell out to get all the sticky egg membrane out. Dry on a rack.
Once you have enough shells, put them on a baking sheet and bake them at 150-200 degrees Fahrenheit for about 1 hour.
If you don’t want to use an oven to dry the shells out, you can place on a baking sheet and let them sun-dry for the day. Solar dried eggshells is definitely energy efficient.
