These creatures travel the universe manipulating conscious beings towards the path of violence and conflict in order to create a perpetual cycle of suffering giving them an infinite supply of food. Inevitably, their actions lead to the extinction of intelligent life on a given planet at which point they move onto another one.

The lore of the world is centred around a group of extraterrestrial beings known as the ancient ones. These beings are able to feed of the emotions of conscious beings which gives them eternal life. At some point the ancient ones realised that it is much easier to mine conscious beings for negative emotions than it is to do for positive emotions.
