Dear friends,
I will soon start an online mini-course for seekers of health and Well-being.

My recent healings at the clinic have had phenomenal results due to empowering education. This has activated self-awareness, agency and advocacy, which changes the course of disease and life.

I dream of a world in which healing is driven by the self-agency of the individual.

Ayurvedic Medicine makes this possible.
It has a shared language of human experience relatable by patients, physicians, and caregivers alike.

After twenty years in Integrative Ayurvedic medicine across India and the US, I have realized the distinct opportunity it offers is that:
'It treats the PERSON with the disease, not necessarily the disease directly itself.'

This opens up a treasure trove of avenues to heal. Healing is a non-linear phenomenon in an open system that is highly sensitive, unpredictable, and responsive to multiple dimensions of inputs. This 'Atlas' of Healing is a complex terrain with multiple guideposts and cues that inform behaviors and interventions to prioritize.

These are coded in the language of Ayurvedic Medicine.

While an Ayurvedic Doctor is trained to recognize and treat them, the people are not. People, however, can be educated to recognize them and make informed choices depending on what their body, heart and being, are informing them. This requires access to Well-being, a powerful calm centeredness that allows one to take stock of the lay of the terrain.

Witnessing the terrain, recognizing the guideposts, and making informed choices depending on available avenues is self-agency. Once we know this self-agency is simple, it simplifies the complexity of healing.

Self-agency is possible only by knowing how to access Well-being, esp amid a storm or disease. Thus, ironically, Well-being is a pre-requisite for healing and not an outcome of it.

Maybe, if we solve this puzzle together, we can make a profound economic and quality of life impact.

So, starting September 15, 2024, I will share these teachings in a crisp online course with evidence-informed practical tools from the perspective of accessing well-being.

The course is:
Thriving Well-Being: Life Skills with Integrative Ayurveda.

It is a course for anyone curious to explore the science and develop an experiential relationship with it. It is to activate processes of self-healing while building trusting partnerships with other healers and healthcare providers (if needed)

It entails what I wish seekers of well-being and health would have universal access to.

Note: This is not a course to diagnose and treat diseases. We always recommend having a close partnership with your primary care provider.

My new post on Substack, "Well-being in the face of disease" starts like this:

After five weeks, my heart palpitations are finally calming down right now," she said.

We were about fifty minutes into our session.

Ms.Percy was a successful C-suite executive for a biotech company that was promoting a biologic to treat an autoimmune disorder. Unfortunately, she had received the same diagnosis five weeks ago.

She knew a lot about the disease. She had access to the best experts in the field. She was knowledgeable about the medication for it.

So, when she came to me for Ayurvedic advice, I informed her, "My responsibility as a Vaidya is to 'treat the person who has the condition. It will naturally alter the disease process."

She stopped, appearing both hopeful and bewildered. 'What does that even mean?' her expression said. Throughout the consultation, she remained open and curious.

She shared what she knew about the impending disease trajectory, the disease's progression, and the benefits and risks of the suggested conventional treatment for it.

She was struggling with several anxieties as a result of her recent diagnosis:

1. Fear of the disease itself.

2. Fear of adverse effects of targeted medicinal interventions.

3. Fear and despair about the end of her life as she knows it.

4. She was afraid of what she was consuming, which could be causing the disease.

5. Fear of other unknown behaviors that could accelerate the disease.

Integrative Ayurveda has an angle to address all of these fears by breaking them down into concerns. It is a path that enables her to access the best of all her options.

As Education Chair at California Association of Ayurvedic Medicine, I had interviewed my mentor who has six decades of pioneering research in Ayurveda for the past and the road ahead.

Here is the link:
https://tinyurl.com/em9ks4cf

Interview questions:

1.You conceived and implemented Ayurveda research in the 1970s when it wasn't in anyone's mind space. Can you share how you started this? And what compelled you to remain dedicated to it for the next five decades?

2. You have been a great team player and a leader in multiple interdisciplinary of health. I have seen your style of asking questions that help experts with openness to reflect for growth. What are some other responses you have for the development of interdisciplinary intersystem dialogue?

3.Reverse Pharmacology is a rational response to the crisis in new drug development. It has guided many projects in the pharmacy education and Pharmacology departments all over India. How can a novice, especially from outside of India, access this rich heritage you have led?

4. The ideas of prakriti genetics occurred to you in 1994. It eventually led to the development of ayurgenomics as a field. Can you share the story of how this occurred?

5.We used to have many discussions about non-product-based Ayurveda research. And how models of clinical investigation need to be developed for traditional health systems. (Ayurvedic statistics, observational therapeutics, vaidya- scientists)

6. I have seen you continue your journey and mission despite all odds and crisis. Your spiritual resilience is the foundation for consistent and dramatic influence on people who wish to rise above and beyond. I see you derive joy from your work without any expectation in return. Your mind remains agile and enthused despite setbacks and challenges with physical health at this age. Theoretically this is a classic function of 'swasthya' in Ayurveda. What is it that you know about health that we maybe don't understand individually? How can we mainstream it?

I draw my advice from multiple sciences embedded on the trajectory of Ayurveda's path for healing. I have attempted to share it here.
