Gary LaParl Glass & Paint
Works created in glass and/or paint
I've been having a blast giving life and color to some turn-of-the-20th-century era Friendship and/or perceived Same-Sex Couple photos in mixed media collage. Here is what I have so far. Let me know what you think! www.garylaparl.com

First painting of 2023 and I've gone large-ish scale. "Foxleigh" - Oil on Canvas - 24" x 36. Here's the process - in reverse.
Here are a few paintings from December. The move to the new studio in Sarasota is delayed until the middle of January. If you are in the area after that, please stop by and say hi to me and the other 17 artists at Creative Liberties! https://www.creativeliberties.net/

Been mixing it up lately adding landscapes and cityscapes (more like villagescapes) to the mix. But my real love is faces! Here are a few recent portraits including "Indore" which earlier this year got an Honorable Mention at the 2022 Member Exhibit at Art Center Sarasota...

Here is some recent work done from my photos. The first is Jeramie who lives across the street and has a killer beard and a killerer stare. The other two are variations on a street photo I took last month in Venice.
“Mady III” 12” x 8 Oil Study on Canvas. This is from a photo shoot I had with fellow glass crafter Mady.
Here are some recent paintings. I've been trying to paint bigger, as my ultimate goal is to paint really big-a$$ paintings. That's a ways off.... Most of these are 24 x 18-ish....
Just realized I only have a month to build some glass before the heat and humidity set in. (My glass shop is in the garage!) Here’s what I’ve worked on so far... 1) Something with a bit of elegance, 2) an improvisation with Foil, Dichroic Glass and Solder, and 3) something whimsical.... Three more on the way!

Here are some of the recent paintings I've completed or at least abandoned... Willow and Largo are based on photos by "Cottonbro" and Arcadia is based on a photo by Maria Orlova.
In my photography, I never photographed people - just snippets of interesting life moments. Now that I'm painting, I'm obsessed with faces. See more at www.garylaparl.com.
What you you like to see me paint?
If you are in the Sarasota/Bradenton area, stop in to Art Center Sarasota and/or Art Center Manatee to see their current exhibits. "Staying Connected" at Art Center Sarasota opens Jan. 28 thru March 5, and "12 x 12" is up at Art Center Manatee through Jan 29. Both feature works by yours truly...
Congrats to the following who will receive a set of 12 note cards from my 2020 collection paintings... (Year One!) They are Barbara Warner, John Fogle, Nate Bertone and Janet Sarno. If I don't know your address, I will be reaching out for it.
Here's the first painting of 2021.... (still in process)
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I'm participating in a "Painting a Day" Series for December. Coming up with stuff to paint is proving a challenge. This painting is from a photograph I took a couple of years ago at a neighbors dinner gathering. I was taken with the the way the dandelions were being reflected in the spoon...
