We made it! We are turning towards longer days and more light!
If you’ve known me for a while, you know I have a deep passion for acupuncture and all things Chinese Medicine related. But did you know that I also practice osteopathy? People have heard this word but aren’t always sure of what it means in treatment.
So, let me walk you through it:
It’s a hands-on modality.
You are fully clothed for the duration of the treatment so wear something you can move in.
It’s a mix of soft tissue, assisted and resisted stretching, and joint mobility.
It treats acute pain and more importantly CHRONIC pain very well.
And finally, it makes me a better acupuncturist. When I am able to feel what is happening in your body, it informs my point selection more deeply providing you with the best combined treatment for whatever ails you. Be it physical pain, emotional pain and stress, menopausal issues or any other ailment (insert all forms of pain here).
Please feel free to shoot me an email if you have any questions about what it is I do, or feel free to book in.
At present I can direct bill to most extended healthcare benefits for acupuncture, but only take credit card or e-transfer for osteopathy at this time.
In health and wellness,
Lisa

Creating stillness within
I might not be that good at this- at least that’s what my brain tells me sometimes. But if I actually REALLY listen to my body, its wisdom tells me otherwise. Am I actually tired or just relaxed? Am I in restorative mode (aka being lazy) or can I trust that all that needs “doing” is actually being done and the just cut myself some slack?
Does any of this sound familiar?
How can we cultivate our Qi (energy)and our Yin (moisture/blood and hydration) to be healthy, to stay healthy and to increase health?
How can we embody the wisdom of nature, in each season, thereby allowing what’s happening outside in nature to happen within us.
This rhetorical question is everything!
This is what I know to be true: allow yourself to slow down now, in the darker season. Read more, watch more movies, play games, go to bed early, drink tea and sit by the fire…stay hydrated. These things can be achieved daily will little effort.
Walk in nature, be in nature, do the things that fill you up emotionally. RECHARGE. Spend time with people you love.
Eat warming foods, raw or cold is harder to digest and tax your system. Give your spleen qi a break and just put warm things in there when possible.
Even though we live in a damp climate, stay hydrated.
If you do these things, you will be in good stead. If you seek something more specific to yourself, book in and we can build your yin with acupuncture and chat about how to nourish yourself during this yin time of year.
I wish you a late Happy New Year and look forward to seeing you back in office when you need the support.
Until then, be well, and be yin.
Falling into Metal
There is a new crispness in the air as of late as we head into fall, known in Chinese Medicine as the Metal time of year. If you find yourself feeling more introspective, a little quieter, maybe even more tired, not to worry because according to Chinese theory, this is natural. Exiting the heat and sunshine of summer, which is the most Yang time of year, often we find not only our activities change but also our energy levels, moods, and sleep schedule. We shift towards Yin with reflection, self-care, and for some, potentially grief and sorrow.
In my practice there is a shift with the Metal season from physical ailments/Yang type injuries into more Yin ailments such as lower moods, insomnia, anxiety and grief. Years ago, one of my teachers told me that true wellness is the ability to feel all emotions, but illness stems from being stuck in one emotion. I take this to heart for myself and for all of you.
I love what I do. Thinking of our bodies and wellness in terms of being mere reflections of nature and the seasons makes sense to me.
Acupuncture really is just finding your balance and it’s individual to each person. My “prescription” (my choice of needles) is tailored to each person with the sole purpose to move your qi and blood to where it’s most needed to allow you to restore and heal from an internal cellular level. No two treatments are the same. I choose points for you in that moment based on what you and your body are telling me. (Sometimes they tell me differing things, but I’ll always listen to the wisdom of your body over your brain).
It still blows my mind after thousands of treatments how relevant and effective this medicine is.
If you feel like you need a seasonal tune up or support please be in touch.

The Ripple effect: small actions that can lead to bigger changes
This is why we need to focus on ourselves and our own healing. In Chinese medicine we are in the Yin time of year. The time to focus inward, the time to restore and the time to heal. It might seem like a little thing to get a treatment…but it is not. It’s momentum.
Curious? Be in touch, I’d love to be of service.

Let’s get started.
ACUPUNCTURE AND OSTEOPATHY
My mentor once said to me, “you can’t ungrow a tree” in reference to my healing.
I actually think about that all of the time when I’m working with someone because it really says it all.
We can only keep growing up and outward as we are meant to and as in nature. On tough days I really need this reminder.
Once we are in progress it is only forward progressions…there no such thing as “slipping backwards in your healing”, or “messing up” or anything like that.
I rely heavily on Chinese Medicine and acupuncture to make sense of the hard things in life. I do look to nature as she has the answers.
If any of this rings true for you, if you can feel it inside of your heart, you are ready to step forward again.
I would love to be of service.

Osteopathy
Or better yet, a Combination of both…

Let’s get started.
Hey Victoria! I love you! Get in here...let's get you on your healing path.
What might that look like you ask? Well it could be anything physical. It could be mobility issues. It could be digestive, or hot flashes, it could even be fertility related. This time of year I’m seeing a lot of emotional things like stress, insomnia, grief and sorrow.
How can I help? I have several tools in my kit those being:
acupuncture
osteopathy (manual therapy)
shiatsu
cupping
gua sha (scraping)
light therapy, laser therapy
More specifically, what does this mean? Book in for an initial appointment and we can walk through a health history and then get you a treatment in the same hour. My preference is to bring all of my tools and training forward thereby oscillating between osteopathy, chinese medicine and acupuncture but it's really up to you how you book in. Let's start with an hour and then get consistent.

I think it’s really clear that I believe acupuncture and osteopathy are amazing modalities.
Truth be told, there is something else that I also think is amazing-that is naturopathic medicine. There is a distinct bond between these medicines and I feel utilising both creates a more rounded healing result. But just as in most things not all ND’s (naturopathic doctors) are the same.
That’s where Dr. Jill comes in. She’s an amazingly gifted doctor that I had the privilege of working with for many years in Manitoba and now she’s registered to work in BC! Dr. Jill specialises in gut and emotional health; her calm, gentle demeanour are an amazing asset to her ability to actually hear you and guide you to higher levels of wellness.
Her practice in BC has the capacity to be both virtual and in person as her schedule permits.
I’m proud to share a workspace with her when she’s in Victoria. Please have a look at her website for more information on how she works at https://drjillkazuk.com/ and be sure to book in today.
I would love to get started with you in my practice as well for acupuncture and osteopathy. What are you waiting for?

I’m feeling pretty darn grateful to live in such a gorgeous place. After living in Banff for 5 years I decided to head west in pursuit of horticulture training and moved to Victoria in 2001. I worked year round in commercial and residential gardening doing maintenance, installation, and tree work and man, did my body ever pay for it! I had tendon issues and allergies seasonally-which is what brought me to acupuncture all of those years ago. I found a practitioner that was able to treat my body so I could stay healthy and in business.
What I didn’t realize at first was that she also was able to treat my insomnia and my seasonal lower mood. I’ve been hooked on this medicine ever since. I can’t stress enough what Chinese Medicine and acupuncture mean to me. The symmetry between nature and acupuncture still blows my mind to this day and as I sit on a rock, looking at the ocean on an amazing October day I am filled with so much gratitude for all of my teachers that have brought me this far.
I really believe in this way of healing and in this medicine. Our bodies can heal with the proper inputs. Let’s make some sustainable long lasting changes and live our best life.
Be in touch, I would love to help.

Achilles issues? Hamstrings a bit too tight ? IT band taut and out of control? Is life moving too fast and you just need a break? How about a qi nap. It’s only the best thing out there because it’s the epitome of efficiency. Here’s how it works. You lie down and give me approximately 60 minutes of your time, with regularity, and I’ll bring all of my education, intention and knowledge forward to treat you in the best way I can.
You can heal. I would love to assist in that process. Let’s get consistent.
Treatments can look like any of the following:
*Combination of acupuncture and osteopathy (60 or 75 minutes)
*Acupuncture (60 or 45 minutes for return patients)
*Osteopathy (30 or 60 minutes)
Cupping and laser added to any of the above if assessed as necessary.

Why am I so stoked? Because I get to work with all of you! Acupuncture, Osteopathy or a combination of both…we can effect real change in our bodies, physically and emotionally, therefore in our lives.
Let’s get consistent. Let’s get serious about healing.
What are you waiting for?

Why is acupuncture pretty much the best thing since sliced bread you ask? Well it’s brilliant. It treats the whole person, meaning body, mind and spirit. One of the many things that still amazes me about this medicine to this day is how completely relevant this practice still is.
Over 3000 years old and still ticking.
Frozen shoulder/lower back issues/ anxiety and depression? I got you. Menstrual cramps? Check. Digestive upset? All day long. Insomnia…yep. The list goes on and on. Whether you’ve had acupuncture before, or you have always wondered about it, I would be very happy to chat with you about it. Come on in and let’s get you started on your healing path.

In osteopathy this technique is called catwalk. It feels amazing as it increases blood flow and loosens up the back of the patient. Sometimes a rib is misaligned and with some well placed pressure and mobility work a release is achieved.
This is a foundational technique in a manual osteopathy treatment with me.

Balance. It’s the Yin and Yang thing. Through an assessment including a patient interview and then a tongue and pulse diagnosis I will choose what points are needed for your treatment. It’s through the placement of the needles that an acupuncture treatment is able to restore the balance in your body by guiding your blood and qi to where it’s most needed. This is how we encourage your body to heal naturally.
Interested? Book in today for whatever you need, physical pain, stress , insomnia. I’d be happy to help.

Yin Tang. It’s a stellar point in acupuncture. One of my teachers in grad school once said it is a very overused point and that we should be cautious with it. It’s actions and indications are anxiety, insomnia, stress, heavy sensations in the head and headaches... just to name a few of them. I think a lot of us need this point these days.
