Pairing up Comeback coffee with "I'm New Here" Gil Scott Haron's first record after 16 years.
Picked up this immaculately packaged tin of .coffee the other day.
They roast and have a shop in Memphis TN. It's tough having such over the top package since you really expect the contents to match. This Ethiopian Sidama didn't disappoint.
The legendary poet and musician R.I.P. was a huge influence on so much music, most notably R&B and Hip Hop but so much more. His soul, Funk and Spoken word was great. His content and thinking was great, and he didn't hold back at skillfully calling out problems and hipocrisy within politics, the outside world, as well as his own communities.
While being incredibly vocal about the role of drugs and how they were affecting the black community, he also struggled with his own addiction and was in and out of prison for years prior to releasing 2010's "I'm New Here".
It's quite different than the 70's Jazzy Soul Funk he's mostly known for, but a great comeback record. Honestly I don't own a record of his that isn't great.
Man O man I wish he was still around to throw his critique on the word today.
👕 Pairing up Short Sleeves Coffee with Spoon's "Fitted Shirt" off Girls Can Tell. 👕
will be opening a shop in downtown Swannanoa later this year! Until then you can support them by ordering online for shipping or delivery.
The hit Indie rock band has been through a few sounds. This third record released in 2001 is one of those with a bit more of a stripped down keyboard and bass driven sound.
So Fresh!
Pairing up Kool and the Gang's Fresh single with Crimson Cup's 1991 blend.
is an Ohio based roaster. You can get their coffee locally and
Congratulations to on opening their new location in West Jefferson! We installed a new .usa Cameo last week. What a cool downtown!
West Jefferson makes their 4th location with the others in Boone (pictured), Blowing Rock, and a trailer on 321 between the two.
This last year is a success story on how reliable a properly cared for Eversys can be. Both locations went the whole year without any issues and I just finished up their annual Preventative Maintenance a few weeks ago. Things will come up and you can't avoid everything but this is the ideal and I don't know of another Super Auto Machine that could go a year between services.
A shout-out to Austin for taking care of his equipment and serving some great local coffee and ice cream.
It's not often it makes sense to stay somewhere overnight due to expenses and a busy schedule. This time it worked out and I pitched a tent and enjoyed a little Coach Camping with
The weather was perfect and it was a fun overnight work trip, knocking out a PM each day and a sight inspection. With Natalie and Jonah holding things down in Asheville it was less stress than normal and a huge thanks to both of them.
This goes out to all them Hotrods out there which definitely has. Check out this custom painted Linea Classic! Whoever did that work has some skill and I'd love to learn who did it and the story there. Well done, It's obviously a hotrod Built For Speed!
I just happened across Hopscotch Coffee and Record's when I was driving through Wi******er VA. A few weeks ago on the drive up to Phili. Cool spot and great coffee.
The Stray Cat's are easily the most commercially successful Rockabilly bands of the 80s and 90s. If you can stereotype a rockabilly band and need some songs about cars, girls and trying to be tough they fit the bill.
is open! It was great to get by and see the cafe complete, meet the staff and get a drink off this beautiful OG .usa GB5 that sits on this beautiful counter.
While technically used, this GB5 is in amazingly good shape and we're stoked to sell it to such a good home.
This goes out to Man's Best Friend, our ever faithful K9 friends. Buddy Brew Coffee is getting paired up with The B52's "Quiche Lorraine".
Old Florida Roast was a gift from some of our Florida friends in St. Pete who live close by one of the locations.
Ahh the legendary and ever goofy
This song about the love for their poodle "Quiche Lorraine" is as silly as they come. "Wild Planet" is their 2nd album released in 1980.
Happy to all you Mothers out there. Drink some .tongue.coffee to facilitate that "Mother's Talk"
tongue.coffee is a bunch of mom's roasting it up in Oakland.
"Songs From The Big Chair" is their 2nd album released in 1985. Most of the 80s record picks come through my wife collection and aren't in my go to genres.
However, after getting dragged to a .luvr show and seeing those insanely talented folks perform "Shout", I have a new appreciation for Tears For Fears.
Pairing up these samples I picked up at SCA with the wild bird themed cover of ex SKA
Duck-Rabbit Coffee Roasters is out of Cleveland OH. Both samples were great.
RX Bandit's 2009 album Mandala is the height of their prog rock roll. If you're Mars Volta fan and never gave this a listen it's a must.

Here's the man himself!
Kent Bakke of .usa came by the .coffee booth to sign our fully Restored ...and I missed it!
It was such a pleasure to be a part of this booth and meet many of my peers in person for the first time. It was an amazing time.
Over the weekend we spread the word of the importance of finding a quality local service provider. Since we are the ones that will have the back of our customers and take care of their equipment long into the future; Invest in us by purchasing your equipment from us.
We built a Linea on the show floor that got donated to a Chicago charity that teaches skills to underprivileged youth.
We gave tribute to the late great Daymond Jordan. The original US espresso tech. I didn't know him but I wish I did.
We built relationships with each other, our manufacturers and our customers.
Last but not least we managed the great escape with three 2 group espresso machines. Not an easy feat.
A huge thanks to everyone who helped out The Service Layer. It was an awesome time.
A quick snippet of some cool new gear and general show pics.
Saturday we attended some .usa classes, connected with some friends and manufacturer reps and helped out around .coffee booth.
What a Whirlwind! It's been a week since the Pat Boyt electrics and board repair class with all us .coffee folks hosted by
I'm going to take the next few days and share some photos and tidbits of each day at and what Jonah and I were up to.
Thursday was the once in a lifetime deep dive with Boyt and well worth the trip alone. We'll be digesting that content for a while.
After that we attended the .usa party and shindig
A huge thanks to for playing chauffeur most of the weekend and dealing with herding us cats
So excited to be headed to Chicago for an amazing training opportunity and to attend the
We'll be taking part in the .coffee booth #2319. The Service Layer is the link between the manufacturer and your local business. We are a group of quality focused independent techs. At Booth #2319 we'll be building a .usa Linea Classic 2AV from the frame up that will be donated to a local Chicago charity after SCA.
Come chat with us about the importance of finding a quality local service partner and buying equipment from the people that will be taking care of it and have the interest of your local business in mind.
We'll also have a and machine with the panels off. So come on by to talk shop and learn what we're about!
⚡ this goes out to ⚡
They are hosting none other than James Boyt, the Electric Eclectic board repair wizard and Burr guru himself! He'll be holding an advanced electrical class for us .coffee members just prior to and we couldn't be more stoked to attend!
If you are at SCA come by The Service Layer Booth #2319 to say hello and see what we're about.
Maybe not the best matched pairing, but this Luna Azul from is what I'm currently drinking and it is super delicious. Give them a visit in Greer, SC
Good old Moog Music. It's its own goofy and groundbreaking electric music genre that you gotta love, or at least appreciate. R.I.P. Moog, cause you ain't what you used to be.
👀 Look inside for maybe the nicest equipment package you've seen in a trailer!
Great to get setup in their vintage Airstream where they will be serving up 🚌
Brevard's got some killer coffee options for such a small town and we're excited to add another one to the list. From what I understand will be developing a whole lot more into the Lumberyard area and Coffee is just the first step.
This Illustration immediately made me think Talking Heads. So how could I not pair with Psycho Killer?
77 is the first album by

We sold and set them up with this black Linea PB, Mazzer grinders and Puqpress.
The Linea PB is one of my favorite machines both in regards to service and function. It also hasn't been redesigned yet like some of the other machines, which is a good thing.
No this weekend since we're currently driving down a new Coach.
This one hales from the owner of Metal Tribute bar and recently got used in a mode photo shoot along with some other fun stuff. Funny thing is it was originally in service on Winston Salem NC, so I guess it's coming back home. It was a pretty quick action packed weekend but and I had a blast. Couldn't resist dropping by the Ghostbusters HQ this morning on the way out of the city.
If isn't in the "League of Bald-Headed Men" I don't know who would be. Pairing up The Fall's track with Bald Guys Kenya for
Bald Guy has a shop in Boone and Blowing Rock. Stopped into the Blowing Rock location recently when I was in town on a work trip and picked up this bag.
The Fall is a legendary avant garde UK Punk band. Mark E. Smith made music with a ton of different lineups from 1976-2018, releasing 31 albums over the years. While they are a favorite and I haven't listened to everything yet, everyone I hear I like. This is the 1993 album "The Infotainment Scan"
The Future - "Yo, it's three-thousand thirty
I want y'all to meet Deltron Zero, and Automator" for this
The Future coffee series features some wild Co-ferments and experimental processes. This "Fruit Snacks" is pretty damn delicious. I sure hope people in 3030 are drinking this but if Del's right it's more likely going to be Soylent Instabrew.
Until then you can pick up a bag like I did in Knoxville
is my personal favorite hip-hop record. Del's one of my favorite rappers and paired with Dan tha Automator's futuristic tunes It's a masterpiece.
🚂 Full steam ahead!
New just opened in the Conover library where they will be serving up
Rancilio makes some extremely reliable machines and might have the best parts stock and support out there. This makes them one of our favorite entry level machines.
They purchased this .usa Classe 5USB Compact and from us. Remember, if you're buying an espresso machine it's best to purchase from your local service company or at minimum speak with them first. Buying through online retailers can leave you with an expensive and unsupported piece of equipment.
This goes out to the where we met up with our Colleagues and Peers in the industry.
Pairing up Operation Ivey's "knowledge" with a bag of we brought home. Scroll over for some shots.
It was our first time to the CTG Summit and I was excited to be able to bring Jonah along. It was full of folk with a wide variety of experience, from newer techs to those who have been in the industry for decades. Classes ranged from practicals on different technical topics to business operations. It was great to see some of the faces I know and meet others I've been waiting to meet in person. Got to see some new cool gear and get honest with some manufacturers. hosted us at that amazing facility and provided some killer food. Big thanks to all the organizers and presenters that made it happen.
Ahhh
Will a better Ska Punk band ever exist? Talk about some Energy. This album was released in 1991 and gets me pumped every time.
This Traffic Orange Linea S is blowing Jonah's mind!
Great to upgrade our friends at Qualla Java In Cherokee from their old Astoria to this new
If you're ever interested in new machines or customization options just reach out.
This goes out to my friends in Fantomex who will be playing an EP release on the 10th. Pairing up "White Hole" with Brandywine's "Stellar Collision II Cosmic Co-fermted Coffee Magic".
is a Delaware roaster that does an amazing job. I have to say they probably have my favorite designs with their screen printed bags.
is home to Asheville/Morganton and is composed of some of my friends and old band mates. Come check them out and their proggy post punk sounds next week.
Frying up The Warlock's "Death Skull Drum Jam" with this Skillet!

are a great dark psychedelic rock band and this is their 2001 debut album.
Dots and Dahs. This 1959 Morse Code Course is getting paired with some Variety Peru that looks like it came from the same era.
is Brooklyn roaster that's got a legitimate vintage 50's vibe. This Palma Real Peru is pretty tasty. Picked up this bag
Back in the day when vinyl records were the only real recorded media platform, there were courses like The Rider Sight and Sound Course. Is there a better way to learn an analog code system than through analog media?
Queuing up Krankies coffee with a personal pick for this
Back in 2007 or so when I was in College I fell in love with wrenching on bikes
This one goes out to all the Bike and Crusty punks of the time R.I.P. To seeing Defiance, Ohio at the legendary Gourmet Perks and the Folk Punk house show scene! 🍻
🛠️ May there always be somewhere to wrench 🛠️
Last I heard the Recyclery was being forced to move from under The Co-op. Did they ever find a new home?
is a Winston Salem Shop and Roastery. Located in the old Warehouse music venue. Check'em out if you're ever in Cigarette City.
Defiance, Ohio is from...Columbus and one of my favorites of the scene. 2007s 'The Fear, The Fear, The Fear" is a good one.
Join us as we get gobbled up by the Eversys espresso machine and spit into the Wonderful and Wacky World of Electrical issues. ⚡
💥 Well, My New Year's is off to a literal bang 💥
I hope yours is only metaphorical.
It's a good reminder that life is equally about what doesn't happen as what does.
Wishing you all a very happy and uneventful New Year's.
Cheers,
Re-Automator Coffee Tech.
As with all Cooperative Roasters paired
I always pick a collaborative band or project.
This one is some of my favorites I've had this year both for
I missed this release in 2016 that I am just now obsessed with it. Iggy Pop and Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age join forces for Post Pop Depression.
is home to West Asheville. This Benedicto Fernandez Colombia makes it onto my list of top three local coffees I've had this year.
While the Stooges are a favorite, I'm surprisingly not a huge solo fan. That being said he's a legend and when he's good he's freekin' great. 2016's Post Pop Depression is just that.
