Burn Baby, Burn
Late to post. I made this memorial book for a very special woman who lost her son. I hand bound the pages that I cut to size and covered the binding with a strip of black leather to hold together the wood covers and the pages.
Skylar was a chef and had this knife tattooed down his forearm. He was a beloved son, husband, brother and friend. He is missed and loved by many in his community.
Last day of the school year! I made this for Blake's teacher, Ms. Gardner since she is a big Harry Potter fan and her house is Slytherin. She has loved Blake and really gave him special attention this year. Due to that, he's become such an avid reader that he's already finished the first 2 Harry Potter in first grade! Thank you for all your hard work and I appreciate how much the teachers have done this past year and a half during this craziness. Enjoy the summer!

Day 27 (Completed 5/22/21)
Prompt- Wanderlust
To wanderlust is to have a desire to wander and if you go wandering in the Sierras, you better bring a map. This map covers the John Muir trial from Mt. Whitney in Lone Pine up to Yosemite. I wanted the high contrast of the dark to the light on the opposite triangle and the fact that the Petroglyphs and the mail trails seem to mirror each other really tied it together for me.
I am SOoOo glad that this project is done. It took me so much longer than expected and was much more of a challenge than I anticipated. At one point, hot wax was spilled all over it when it was half done. Thanks to a razor blade and patience, it was saved and finished.
This piece taught me a lot about myself, how I work and my skills. I never imagined that I would be able to burn such realism and I think my favorite part of the whole plate is my little deer head! Thank you all for watching this long process unfold. Lessons learned for next time and improvements being made.
If you love this plate and are interested in getting a custom, hand made piece for yourself, please message me. I promise, it won't take 3 months. Lol.
Day 31 (completed 5/31/21)
Prompt- Flourish
I'm so happy with how this little guy turned out! This is the mule deer. If you go walking in the hills of the Sierras, you'll be sure to find some shed along your path from these beauties. I choose him for flourish because of his flourish of antlers and that during the migration season, they can be all over the place, popping up like weeds. One last piece to go! Here I come Wanderlust!!
*Getting It Done Edition*
Day 23- Completed 5/18/21
Prompt- Insect
Another piece done! Only 2 sections left to go. This is the Sierra Grasshopper. They like to live by the waters of the rivers and feed on the abundance of wild rabbit brush in the area. Somehow they manage to survive the extreme temperatures of the summers and winters of the mountains and valleys.
My next prompt is Wanderlust but that one I'm going to save for last. So next up, Flourish. I had a hard time choosing the right design for that spot but I think I found the perfect one! Stay tuned!
*Procrastinator Edition
Day 19- completed May 15th
Prompt- Contrast
Over half way there! Hopefully I can keep my momentum from this burn and actually get the rest done. Honestly, I'm tired of looking at it on my desk. Lol. I am really happy with the way the Ancient Bristlecone Pine turned out. I wasn't expecting it to be in the form of realism but I love it. This section gave me confidence. And those pine trees, so fast and easy.
I thought this would be perfect for contrast, showing how new pine trees can exist in the same environment as the Bristlecones that have been around for thousands of years. Plus, the stark visual difference between them but both being pine trees really ties it together for me in contrast. The same but so different.
Another cutting board, ready to ship. This one is off to Texas, my second one in a row! Thank you my coworkers and friends for ordering from me and supporting my small business. Each piece I make is done by hand and I usually like to include a little thank you of some fridge magnets or wood burned dice. Like what you see? Send me a message to get your order started!
*Procrastinator Edition*
Day 11 (Completed April 10th)
Prompt- Secret
And....I did it! I faced my fear of this section on my Eastern Sierra plate and finished the Petroglyphs! I chose the Petroglyphs for secret because not everyone knows where to find them and they are tucked away, hidden from the other sights of the Sierras. The mystery of the ancient Indian Petroglyphs and what they depict is something still to be discovered.
I've recently read that procrastination is prompted by fear and for this part, it was true. I am not very skilled or practiced when it comes to realism and so I was worried that this section was going to turn out awful and be an eye sore. I'm so glad that I finally got past this one and it actually turned out way better than I anticipated. I have one more realism piece on this plate so hopefully I won't be so worried for this next one and drive right in.
Okay, and we're going.... Again.....
*Procrastinator Edition*
Day 15 (Finished 4/1/21)
Prompt: Change
Kind of perfect for what I'm trying to work on, right? Change of habits, change of fear, change of self care, change of procrastinating. The change I depicted is of the aspen leaves in the Eastern Sierras. They are, by far, the most beautiful change every year and with the way their root systems connect, the change happens in stages across a wide expanse of area but I'm the shape of a ripple effect. These leaves would not all show up on the same branch at the same time but I wanted to give a good representation of the wide array of differences during the change to fall. We all are represented here, we all change in different ways but in the end, we all go through a season of change. It may not look the same for everyone but we all share the shed of a past to a new growth toward the future.
So, anyone notice that I skipped one? Yeah... We'll talk about that later....
So, if you've been wondering where my last two burns are.....yeah. This pretty much sums it up. I am a known procrastinator and I thought that setting deadlines for myself and keeping vigilant with the online community would keep me on track but, we all know how that goes. There's always dinner to make, dishes to do, homework to check, and working 40 hours a week doesn't leave me much time (or energy) the get the things done that I plan. At the end of the day, I find it hard to motivate myself to sit down in my office and burn when I've been sitting in my office all day making phone calls. I will be better. I will meet my goals and burn, even when I don't feel like it. Getting caught up seems daunting but it's only 2 prompt, Secret and Change. It's time for me to change and get this done. 🌬️🍃🌄
I love the texture of my fishy.
Rainbow Trout, Golden Trout,
Trout, trout, trout!
-Day 7 (My day 2)
Prompt- Rainbow
Again, because I can't seem to do the things most people would, for the rainbow prompt, I decided to do a rainbow trout. They are so delicious and to see them in person, it's amazing the way their color is so rich and deep, yet they seem to glow. 6 more prompts to go. Next up...secret... Coming to you on the 11th.
Day 3. (My Day 1)
Prompt: Wild
These are wild Indian Paintbrush stalks. The grow native in the Eastern Sierras and have been one of my favorite plants for a long time. I love how they are just bursts of color that pop up in the middle of the mountains.
Most people tend to follow all the prompts for the BurntMonth Challenges but I decided to give myself a break and only do every other prompt. In the end, I will have completed 8 prompts for March which is more than enough to keep me busy.
Most people tend to do individual pieces as well but for this challenge, I decided to put them all together to create one big piece and challenge myself to see if I can make it all flow.
I will post as follows:
3rd- Wild
7th- Rainbow
11th- Secret
15th- Change
19th- Contrast
23rd- Insect
27th- Wanderlust
31st- Flourish
I already have a fun idea for Rainbow and I have a feeling I'm leaning towards a continuous theme. Stay tuned for the next part!
Garden Signs
I had some fun stamping with this one. Signs for the home.
Triple dream catcher. Many hours went into the detail of those feathers.
Sometimes we all need this reminder. This was for my sister-in-law for mother's day but I feel it applies to life every day.
As the weather cools, the more this becomes true. This was actually made for a little girl, Summer, for her bedroom. So much fun.
I love you, a bushel and a peck! My mom loves her chickens and always done this song to my son. Figured this would be perfect for her home.
I guess I should have posted this piece for the details prompt. This piece came from the heart to a special guy who became my son's best friend when my boyfriend and I were in the play Into The Woods.
This piece was for one of my very dear friends. She's had an extremely rough year and deserves all the love.
Feeling the need for a beautiful woman. Thank you Sailor Jerry! (Wrapping still on the bark)
Everytime I look at this piece, it reminds me how everything is interconnected. Our roots connect us to our core and what we put out into the world, coming back full circle. Made this one for my love. Miss you baby and hope your day is going well!
This piece was made as a wedding present for two of my very best friends. I was going to post it on their anniversary but hey, late is better than never, right? Perfect stand for a Kindle but can hold any size tablet. Very sturdy.
This fun piece was made for my father. Him and his friend always said they were going to open a business and call it this. Perfect Father's day gift and man cave sign.
What a powerful message. Definitely needed lately to remind myself that I need to keep my flame burning bright, no matter what creeps in.
This box is one of my favorites...except for doing the felt inside 😒. If you have any tips on how to attach a felt lining to a wooden box without the glue seeping through the fabric, please comment below!
(Sorry for the somewhat fuzzy picture) Well... This one doesn't really fit in the space given by Instagram but, I think you get the picture. (Little word play there ;)) the detail on the skull took awhile but turned out great. I went over the eyes one more time to darken them up before giving it to the client.
A warm and snuggley sentiment for this weather turning cold.
I loved doing this piece. Those letters were so fun.
