Bill and I were not created to be parents. Hear me out: not one person on this planet was created to be a parent. It might be part of who some people are and part of their stories, but whether you’re a parent or not, whether you’re a spouse or not, whether you get that promotion or take that trip or start this business or give to this charity, none of it is what you were created to do. We are created for one reason: to glorify God. I see so many happy announcements touting the phrase “God is good” and make no mistake friends, He IS good. He is THE BEST. But he’s not just good when you get to announce something joyous or when your life is going well; He’s good when it’s not. He’s good in the bad news and in the heartbreak. He’s good every minute of every day. God’s goodness isn’t a fluctuating scale based on how our individual lives are going. And that is why - even through infertility - we’ll rejoice, because if that is how we glorify Him then I consider it joy. Does it make me happy? No. It makes me shattered to my very core some days. Every month that goes by, every doctor’s appointment where they use the word “impossible”, every medicine I’ve been prescribed, every test I’ve had tries to break another little piece off of me. But that’s ok because in my human weakness His power is made perfect. So at the end of the day when I bring Him my brokenness, and He reminds me to trust His good (there’s that word again) plan for my life I’m ok. And if infertility is the vessel then I’ll stand in it and praise Him every step of the way. Even when my voice shakes and I’m being held upright only by His grace I’ll shout His goodness from the rooftops. He’s good in your life, too, friend though I know sometimes it feels far from it. If you need someone to praise through your storm or hold you up while you’re walking that hard road, I’m here. I’m here to pray with you and for you and I’m on your side.

Weekend vibes: hope all of your weekends are exactly what you need them to be. My whole personality is this robe now and right behind it are these pajamas. This is another pair of the same brand I shared in my Valentine’s pajama reel the other day! If you haven’t gotten a pair (or four) what are you waiting for?!

My verse of the year for 2023 was John 3:30 “He must become greater and I must become less”. At the beginning of the year I could have never predicted everything we would experience and the ways that this would show up in our lives in such a tangible way. Through all the highs and lows, the plenty and want, and the changes and transitions He has provided and made a way. Everything we have experienced, seen, felt, had, and did was because of how big God showed up this year. What a year we had and I can’t wait to see what 2024 brings. We’ve got big goals and big plans for this year and we’re trusting His guidance and direction every step of the way!

23/12/2023

Merry Christmas Eve Eve! I am officially out of office until 2024! Bring on all the family fun, celebrations, and relaxation! Friendly reminder that today is the last day of the Target sweater sale. This fun plus size sweater I wore to dinner last week is part of that sale and would be so fun going into Valentine’s Day season!

Low quality pics, high quality time. Had the best annual Christmas date night dinner with Bill. As you can see, I went with option #2 for my outfit. My favorite was #3, but I’ll save that one for something else…maybe New Year’s Eve? Happy Friday, friends! And Happy Holidays!

We will call this look “errands chic”. Alternative title options: “toeing the line between frumpy and fabulous”. Got some errands done this afternoon and realized this coat is on sale for $35 right now and couldn’t not tell you about it! Comment LINK or head to my stories for shopping information!

Do you like to know the end of the story before you read it? If Bill and I are watching a show, I look up the spoilers. I’ve always been this way. I find comfort in knowing how things are going to end. I’m also this way with situations in my life. I can’t tell you how many conversations I’ve had with God where I’ve begged him to just show me the end of whatever I’m going through. “I don’t need to know all the details”, I’d tell him, “just how it ends up”. Lately I’ve been spending a lot of time in Exodus, the part where Moses parted the Red Sea so the Israelites could make their way through. If you’ve been in church, you’ve heard this Bible passage taught a million times. If you went to church in the 80s, like me, you probably saw a felt board presentation on it. We know how that story ends - all the Israelites made their way through safely. But do you think they knew if that would happen or not? I don’t know about you, but I’ve never seen a sea part (physically, that is). Imagine how scared they were walking through. I think of mothers holding their babies and praying they’d be safe while waters raged on either side of them. I think of husbands holding their wives hands and just putting one foot in front of the other. They didn’t know what would happen, but they trusted. They kept going. In everything we go through, that’s what we have to do. Trust Him and keep going. Bill and I don’t know what’s going to happen with our infertility situation, but does that mean we should just shut down, stop moving, and call it all off? Some days it feels like it, but that’s not it. Just because we don’t know where we’re going doesn’t mean we don’t know Who is leading us. John 13:7 says “you do not know what I am doing now, but later you will understand”. For this reason, I know that we’ll make it through our version of the Red Sea. Friend, I don’t know what you’re going through, but I know it’s scary and overwhelming. I don’t know what your end is or when your sea will part, but I know that trusting Him to get you to the end is better than not getting there at all. ❤️

What was the peak and pit of your Thanksgiving weekend? For me, the peak was time with family and the pit was how warm my mom keeps her living room! 🤣🥵

We are headed home today and in case you’re not sales-ed out, I’ll be linking up some Cyber Monday deals that are shop worthy, including this literal entire outfit.

23/11/2023

Remember when instagram was just pictures? Filmed a whole “get dressed with me” reel this morning and it was out of frame and the lighting was terrible so I scrapped it and went with the photo. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good reel, but there’s something nostalgic about the old OOTD photos! This plus size outfit is definitely a repeat outfit for me; it’s one of my faves and perfect for fall! Following in the footsteps of my friend .m.clifford and sharing an outfit I can’t link. Use this photo as inspiration to recreate it with things in your closet. All i did here was take some overalls and wear something over them instead of under them and threw on some sneakers. I feel cute and I love wearing things different ways and want to encourage you to do the same! Happy Sunday!

IF YOU WERE TO TALK TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF, WHAT WOULD YOU TELL HER? I would tell young Whitney that being the best is overrated and so subjective. I would tell her that it’s ok to laugh loud and love big and that trying to make yourself smaller or different or quieter to please someone else isn’t your job. I would tell her that the opinions of others aren’t always valuable & that everyone doesn’t have her best interests at heart. I would tell her that confidence is the key to getting everything she wants.

What’s your recipe for a great summer outfit? Mine usually involves cutoff denim shorts and we go from there. This one is for my tall girlies - ever had something show up and not be long enough? I already know the answer to that. This duster? The first one I’ve ever ordered that is ACTUALLY full length on me.

01/07/2023

It occurs to me sometimes when I look at Bill that I was taught as a kid to not talk to strangers and then I grew up and married one from the internet. 🤣 Also when I was a kid & would think about my future spouse I would just think how I wanted him to be kind. Not mean. Just kind. Over the years I added many more (too many more) qualities that were “non-negotiable” to that list. Fast forward manyyyyyyyy years later (more years than I would like, but that’s another story) & I remember going on my first and second date with Bill and my mom asking me about him & I remember I kept saying “he’s just so kind”. I literally had no other adjectives (at that time, I have plenty now) that felt right to describe him. Bill is kindness & servanthood personified. Now I’m not saying that there’s not many qualities you should consider when you’re choosing who to spend your life with, but may I suggest adding “kind” to the list? It is highly underrated on the qualities list, in my opinion.

Hey hey! Dusting off my feed to let you know I’m sharing a reintroduction of myself on stories! So many new faces and I’m glad y’all are here! We’re still moving, but I’m hoping my posting will be more regular. Less edited, I’m sure, but hopefully more regular!

Tell me what the weather is where you live without telling me what the weather is where you live. I’ll go first: in Memphis it is “jacket, umbrella, bathing suit in the same day” weather. I believe this time of year is why God created denim jackets and I’ve rounded up some of the best ones on my .ltk for you!

On the way to Walmart last week I saw a dad and daughter on the sidewalk; he was teaching her to ride a bike. The mom was standing on the porch watching, videoing on her phone. In the car right then I broke down. Yesterday at Palm Sunday production rehearsal one of the staff member’s little boys was helping him with a work task and when they got done his dad high-fived him and they hugged and I had to go to the bathroom so nobody would see me cry. Recently Bill and I were out to eat and there was a young family - mom, dad, and 2 small children. They were laughing at their table because the daughter was trying lemon for the first time. That day I cried in McAlisters Deli. There are times I can see all these things and it not affect me at all, but it seems those times are fewer more far between. All of the focus here was the dads. One thing that’s not talked about as much with infertility is what the spouse is missing, too. There is nothing I want more than to see Bill in all of these positions. If you’ve ever seen Bill with a kid, you know how good he is. It breaks me in ways I never knew I could be broken that I don’t get to see his dreams fulfilled. And he tells me all the time that I’m all he needs, and I know he means it but man is infertility hard on a marriage. One thing I can guarantee, though, is that we will always cling TO each other instead of letting it drive us AWAY from one another. We work at it. There’s times I isolate myself from the world, but I try to never do it from Bill. I’m so thankful for how he loves me so well in general, but especially through this.

09/12/2022

This has not been my week. The same week I posted about how to combat holiday stress I nearly let stress get the better of me. Truth is, my breaking point this week had nothing to do with the holidays. It came from my own insecurities, my need for perfection, my incessant drive to be the best at everything. This week it affected my marriage, my work, my content creation……all for something that’s unattainable anyway. I’ll never be perfect and I’ll never have it all together, this I know. I’m a control freak who’s working on not being a control freak, but it still is a process to separate the facts from my feelings sometimes. I’m putting a reset on what’s left of this week. There’s still so much time left for good things and the same is true for you, too! If you’ve had a difficult week I claim with you that it stops right now! Give your struggle over to God, remember the facts, and make the most of the time that’s left!
