Ci**rs 101: How to Light a Cigar

A properly lit cigar is important because it means all the components (wrapper, binder and filler) will be evenly lit, thus imparting the flavors of the blend.

(before you can light up, you'll want to cut your cigar so air can pass through it.)

To properly light your cigar keep the cigar above and near the flame, but don’t let them touch. Next rotate the cigar so all parts of the tip are equally heated. Keep at it until there’s a glowing ring all the way around the cigar’s tip and the edges are thinly blackened. Lastly raise the cut end of the cigar to your mouth and take the first puff. Seems so simple but people do it so wrong everyday.

When cutting a straight sided cigar, it is important tha you only cut the cap of the cigar. The cap is what holds your cigar together. If you cut off too much, or all of the cap, your cigar can unravel while smoking it.

P.S. You can always cut a little more, but never can you cut a little less!

Fillers

The majority of a cigar is made up of fillers, wrapped-up bunches of leaves inside the wrapper. Fillers of various strengths are usually blended to produce desired cigar flavors.
