Game-Based Learning Brings the History of Civilization to Life 11/02/2023

"Historia"
A game-based learning method that has been used to teach history to students.
So interesting to see both teachers and students admitting the success and efficiency of the used learning method.
Using this game makes the teacher act as a facilitator instead of being at the center of the learning method. This enables students to do their research and take decisions on their own..

The benefits of Game-based learning are now confirmed by increasing scientific evidence: many researchers in the field of school psychology are dealing with digital well-being and experimentation in schools and involve teachers and professionals from various fields also to popularize and raise awareness of these issues. A recent example is the study day organized by the Laboratory of School Psychology (Splab) of the "G. D'Annunzio" University of Chieti (in Italy) "Gamification and Digital Well-Being," during which psychologists, researchers, teachers, students, trainers, and gamification experts spoke.
Among the many multidisciplinary contributions on the topic, the psychologists presented the most recent lines of research. Moreover, the teachers showed some school experiences (including the educational video games made by the students of the Liceo scientifico "C. D'Ascanio" in Montesilvano, which you can take a look at at the link https://gamefalconeborsellino.it/).
In addition, the school trainers shared with the audience the initiatives undertaken at the governmental level to incentivize new teaching methodologies based on technologies. It is hoped that these figures can collaborate more and more closely in a lifelong learning perspective. Pedagogia della creatività + Game based learning 30/01/2023

The prestigious University of Turin in Italy, has already completed 600 years of educational activity and counts among its students names of personalities who have characterized the history of Italy and humanity, such as Erasmus of Rotterdam, Amedeo Avogadro, Luigi Enaudi, later President of the Italian Republic and Nobel laureates Salvatore Luria, Rita Levi Montalcini and Renato Dulbecco.
Nevertheless, the University proves to be at the forefront in the educational and didactic field.
Indeed, the Bachelor of Science in Education provides among the teachings of the 2nd year, the characterizing course of didactics and special pedagogy "Pedagogy of Creativity + Game Based Learning" held by Prof. Manuela Repetto, demonstrating that this new teaching methodology is spreading as a regular practice in teaching, for its many positive effects on meaningful learning and the fight against school dropout.

On a Mission With Game-Based Learning - EdSurge News 24/01/2023

Good afternoon everyone!
How are you feeling? Our project’s ending is just around the corner, and we are working hard at schools using the tools we have created and exchanging views and experiences with other teachers.

While we are doing that work, we get motivated when we read testimonials from other teachers who have implemented game-based teaching and have been successful. It is certainly a pleasure to hear from these stories.
For example, it is worth reading this article in which students are focused on doing business and enterprise units which would plan concerts or events.
Do not hesitate to take a look at it!

Some pictures taken from today morning activities. We made different practical activities in order to reflect on teaching mode and our students' charachteristics to make the learning more effective. What are the LOs we want them to achieve? How do they do it? How their attitudes will change? Everything is related in designing a Learning pathway based on Game-base Learning, creating also our own games and exploiting the already existing ones.

Good afternoon! :)
The last time we shared a personal experience, we talked about gamification elements introduced in a primary school in the early 1970s.

Today we want to share the experience of a young Italian man in his mid-twenties who would have loved to have learned by playing games.

“I’ve never had any game-based learning experience at school. But hearing about this project makes me feel like I’ve lost a great chance to learn things in a different way. For example, I would have loved to have felt more engaged through games. Learning without even being aware of it would have stimulated my imagination and curiosity. Moreover, having a reward would have kept me motivated to carry on with the learning process. Applying game elements, such as a quiz with a prize, to a learning activity would have made me happier.”

What are your personal experiences with learning at school? We would love to hear about them. Please share them with us, and tell us what you liked or even what you disliked: it will enrich our project.

27/09/2022

Hello! How are you doing?
Today we come with a curious fact.

Thinking back to our learning experiences at school, interesting memories pop up. In the early 1970s, i.e., half a century ago, a sort of gamification element was being used by a catholic priest who taught religion in a primary school of a small village in southern Germany. Not even in our wildest dreams would we have called it ‘gamification element’ half a century later!

The gamification element in question was a pack of playing cards with images of saints printed on them. On one side, there was a picture of a Saint and on the other a short biography of such Saint.

If schoolchildren had done their homework well or achieved some learning goal, they would receive these cards as a prize for their efforts. These prizes had a two-fold impact: they would show appreciation for their efforts but were also useful because schoolchildren would learn the life stories of the Saints.

It is clear that game-based learning has been around for a long time and was used generations ago without even knowing what it was or that it would be called game-based learning.
We would love to hear about your personal experiences. Please share them. Thank you!

Hey! How do you manage to keep the attention of the students? How can I teach them to be more participatory and make them more motivated? One of the key challenges of online learning is student engagement. Student engagement is extremely critical to learning and retention. The low participation of the students generates boredom, low motivation and, consequently, low performance. These are some of the educational games available on the 9ijakids platform to inspire learning for high school kids. Have a look!!
