How does a Beval bit work?

A Beval bit has a similar effect to a 2½ & 3 Ring Snaffle but has a softer effect and less leverage. Gives a flexible, soft feeling in the hand. This bit can be used with the reins in multiple positions depending on what effect you’d like from the bit.

It can also be used with a gag rein thanks to the special design with bent loop rings on the inside. The gag rein can slide smoothly in the loop rings.

Designed to follow the natural shape/contour of the mouth, these bits have a short centerpiece that lays flat against the tongue, eliminating any palate interference. It breaks towards the outside of the tongue, softening excessive pressure to the center of the tongue, allowing a more consistent feel across the mouth.⁠

The difference between these 2 is that Maja is made of titanium and Mats is sweet iron.⁠

👉️ We usually recommend a Titanium bit for sensitive mouthed horses who can react to other metals e.g. red marks or sores developing, despite a soft contact from the hands.⁠

👉️ Sweet iron is a covering on top of a bit made of stainless steel. We have both grey and blue sweet iron coatings.⁠

❓Are Fager’s leather bits dyed in any way? 🤔

💬 No, we do not use any sort of dyes or chemical process. The color of the leather is achieved simply by letting the leather sit in natural vegetable oil, turning the original light brown to the dark brown as it absorbs the oil.

This also means that you can use our leather bits right away as they already are oiled and ready when you receive them! 😍

Harald and Hanna are two favorites for horses with a super sensitive tongue as it was a high port. This helps horses that doesn’t like the pressure on the tongue, causing them to put the tongue over or behind the bit 👆

As these bits will give more pressure on the bars due to the tongue relief, we recommend finding a bit without tongue relief to change between to protect the bars.
