Ava Preston is vocalist and songwriter from the Cleveland area. Audience members often describe her as an “Old Soul.” She started singing at the BluJazz+ Jam Sessions when she was 10 years old. Ava is an 11x national Downbeat SMA Winner for vocal Jazz and Blues/Pop/Rock. She also received the 2023 YoungArts Finalist Award for jazz voice.

Ava will be performing at the 2023 Monterey Jazz Festival in September as the vocalist for the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra.

Northeast Ohio’s Ava Preston is rising the ranks as a jazz singer-songwriter Jazz vocalist Ava Preston learned to pen lyrics and refine her vocals from mentors around Cleveland. Now, she's hitting stages around the country and performing for her music heroes.
I’m excited to be featured on the PBS Ideastream “Applause Performances” program this week. You can watch my 30-minute feature on the PBS App or website starting Nov 16. My Story
Ava Preston is a 16-year-old vocalist and songwriter from Cleveland, Ohio. She is a five-time National Downbeat Student Music Award Winner for Best Vocal Jazz Soloist in 2018, 2019 and 2020, Outstanding Blues/Pop/Rock Performance in 2020 and Best Vocal Blues/Pop/Rock Soloist in 2018. Already a regular headliner at All About Jazz’s #1 Jazz Club in the country (Bop Stop at the Music Settlement), Ava has performed her original music in ten local headline shows over the past two years including Nighttown, BluJazz, Bar 107, and Brothers Lounge.
Ava has also performed as a guest singer at number of national venues including Birdland Jazz Club (New York), Bluebird Café (Nashville), The Commodore Grille (Nashville), Monty Alexander Jazz Festival (Easton, MD), and Andy’s Jazz Café (Chicago) among others. She has participated in summer jazz camps for vocalists including Stanford Jazz Workshop, Jazz Port Townsend, Litchfield Jazz Camp, New York Voices and Tri-C JazzFest.
Ava’s mentors include internationally acclaimed trumpeter Dominick Farinacci (TED Speaker & former Global Ambassador to Jazz at Lincoln Center), pianist Theron Brown (Director of the Rubber City Jazz & Blues Festival), vocal icon Kim Nazarian (Grammy Nominated New York Voices), guitarist Kurt Reed (Director of Fairlawn & Hudson School of Music), and singer/songwriter Susan Anders (Acclaimed Nashville Vocal Coach) among others.
