Happy 41st Birthday 01/12/2023

Today is my 41st birthday, at least biologically speaking. However, after reading the book "No Bad Parts," (Internal Family System) I had an epiphany: there are many different ages within me. There is the youngest inner child who is often scared and anxious, yet curious and full of life. Happy birthday to you, little one. Then, there is the older child who felt the need to be protective and manage anxieties and stresses to prevent hurt....

Be aware of the “Not ___ Enough” belief 07/04/2023

Hello there! I recently revisited my notes from Brené Brown's book "Daring Greatly" (which I highly recommend), which reminded me of the concept of scarcity culture. This mindset, which often leaves us feeling like we never have enough, affects many of us and can be problematic. Understanding Scarcity Culture Scarcity culture is a mindset that convinces us we lack time, money, love, or success....

Ho Chi Minh (22-28 March 2023) 28/03/2023

Hi, I'm currently in Ho Chi Minh City. I came here on the 24th of March, 2023. I booked a solo trip on the 22nd of March 2023 to go for a spontaneous trip somewhere the next day. So it's my second time in Vietnam since 2019 (Pre-Covid). I went to the Cu Chi Tunnel and learnt the many ingenious "Art of war" tricks the fighters came out with against their stronger opponents....

Preparing for a transition 24/07/2022

Perhaps it's precipitated by the COVID Pandemic; the Lock Down and not being able to travel created a situation where we get to face ourselves (? because we can't distract ourselves?). I am transitioning from the Case Management role in a mental health institute, something I have invested in for the last 12 years. I feel tired and drained....

A reflection. Recognised the vital role our neighbourhood doctors (GPs) play in our healthcare system. 09/03/2022

A reflection on 9 March 2022 The side effects of over specialisation in healthcare Because of specialisation, a person becomes "divided" into different parts. There are various medical specialities for all sorts of ailments. The person is separated into body parts. (Hands, Legs, Lungs, Brain, Mind). The Meandering Undead 28/09/2021

I resonated with the feeling. At times, I feel unsure how I should feel.. on one hand, there is a narrative that COVID is dangerous we must be careful... and then there is another narrative that we are highly vaccinated and we are safe. I am quite confused and tired.

Update on what I have been doing 29/08/2021

29 Aug 2021 Motivational Interviewing. Helping people change by William R Miller, Stephen Rollnick Link I was reminded that it is not me who has the power to change anyone. It is the people themselves who have the resource and ability to change if they want to. Who is Karl Popper? 20/06/2021

I came across this person, so I became curious, who is Karl Popper? Notes from the video above. When we look at a theory, are we looking for evidence to disprove it? Or to approve it? Physical wellness 18/06/2021

Tend to your inner garden 27/11/2020

I was playing with this idea of a inner garden in me, as a way to practise self-care, and creating "space" to "hold" my client in therapy. How a child develops and shapes his mind through language 22/09/2020

(Writing exercise. I was trying to write down what I have been learning) Even before our imaginary child, Thomas, acquire language, he senses sensations; experiences emotions in his body, he cries when his diapers need changing, hungry or afraid. He does not know the words "hungry", "afraid", but he senses the sensation in his body. As Thomas socialise with his caregivers, say when a parent calls him by his name, "Hi Thomas!", he develops a sense of individuality. [ 424 more words ]

I watched The Social Dilemma, a documentary by Netflix. The film featuring the Center for Humane Technology’s founders, advisors, and other tech leaders. SYNOPSIS A powerful exploration of the extreme impact that a relatively small number of engineers in Silicon Valley have over modern-day society, The Social Dilemma deftly tackles concepts like technology addiction, social engineering, and surveillance capitalism and makes them visceral, understandable, and urgent. How to correct a bad (emotional) posture? 23/08/2020

When people have bad posture (slouching), it gives them pain and aches in the body. Physical adjustment and training are needed to correct body posture. Some weaker muscles will need strengthening by doing exercises. Flexibility training, stretching will also be required to loosen the tight muscles that hold the body in an incorrect position. Similarly, people may also suffer from "psychological/emotional/spiritual bad posture", a mental/emotional slouching, that gives you lots of psychological/emotional pains and aches. [ 71 more words ]

Shame and Guilt. How to help? 19/08/2020

19 Aug 2020 I was thinking of what my clinical supervisor, shared with us about "Shame and Guilt" during one of the supervision sessions. And my reflection on 18 Aug 2020. Wittgenstein, why are you so hard to understand !? 17/08/2020

I am currently doing a bit of an investigation on the topics of language, psychology and the implication in psychotherapy. What happened? I was reading the Chapter 6 "Don't think but observe" from the book, "More Than Miracles: The State of the Art of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy" by Steve de Shazer and Yvonne M. Dolan. Steve de Shazer was sharing about Ludwig Wittgenstein's philosophy; while i do not fully understand it yet, I feel the significance of those ideas. [ 155 more words ]
