Patron saint of pandemic: With venues closed, performer Abbey Crawford finds a new creative outlet Abbey Crawford is a trained cabaret singer, has been acting in theater for more than 30 years and works as a hairstylist at the Jewel Box Salon. Essentially, every aspect of her life involves creativity.
Well. Last night was glorious!!
Not only was it the 7th time I’ve performed with The Spokane Symphony, it was also the 6th anniversary of the very FIRST time I sang with them.
Our night celebrating Veterans was moving, exciting, solemn, and so very lovely.
I had a team of extraordinary people to work with, and I could not have asked for a better audience.
I cannot wait to sing with the symphony again. They are ever so good to me.
Congratulations to all involved. And thank you for trusting me and allowing me to help out the program together.
I am honored and humbled.
(Thank you Dena & Heather for the pics of the stage!)
Saturday night, November 9, I’ll be performing with the Spokane Symphony. I am so very excited for this show for a number of reasons.
First thing- I actually helped put this show together. I got to create the medleys for each War, helped pick pieces for our vocalists. Songs from each era, including an awesome re-imagined piece by rock band Disturbed. I was allowed to hire musicians for the vignettes, surrounding myself with music.
Second, I get to work with a number of talented people, from my awesome vocalists, Jim Swoboda & Derrick Parker, to the amazing Symohony themselves, conducted by Morihiko Nakahara and of course, the small combo musicians- Hot Club of Spokane- Eugene Jablonsky, Mikaella Croskrey, Steve A Bauer & Garrin Hertel, Larry Jess, Rick Westerick and Riley Gray.
Lastly- this show is a labor of love. I’ve been working with veterans of war since the age of 17, thank you to one of my high school teachers. My love and fascination of wartime music is being brought to the forefront of my life, and I cannot think of a better way to honor those men and women I’ve had the honor to work with. My heart is full. Thank you to Bethany Schoeff-Cotter, Daniel Cotter & Kay Feeley for trusting me with this content.
I do hope you can come see the show.
It’s at the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox, Saturday the 9th. I think there are tickets still available.
Please come and honor these men and women with us.
