The ups and downs of entrepreneurship and owning a brand make it really easy to dwell in the past - past failures (why did I do that? If only I could go back) and past successes (that big deal you closed 6 months ago, the sales from last year etc).

BUT, there’s only one way, and it’s forward - always. We take in these experiences, learn what we can from them and keep moving to build new standards, and achieve new goals 🌶

While some would like to think brand strategy is rocket science… it really isn’t.

However, it does take true commitment — and it’s not always the most exciting thing on earth. A lot of the work is done ‘in the shadows’, repetitive and not the sexiest.

But without that work, the fun parts (such as launching new products, brand shoots or working on a cool aesthetics) just won’t hit!

Remember, branding isn’t about looking good… it’s about making your business SELL! 🌶

If there’s one thing we want you to remember before you start to endlessly scroll through Pinterest (we’ve been!!) is STRATEGY first!

All of your visual identity, including your fonts, need to stem from strategy: it needs to be based on meaning and data. It’s the only way to build an impactful, effective visual identity :)

Ahhh all of the things we’ve heard since we started B.YOND (and our other brands).

And to be honest, we don’t blame the people who’ve said this to us. They don’t really know what it’s like to own and grow a brand — and that’s why being an entrepreneur can be so lonely at times.

No, being your own boss isn’t easy — for most, it means a lot of sacrifice and being switched on at all times.

No, we didn’t get lucky with our brand — we worked hard (still do), made a lot mistakes (still do), and have gone through very tough moments (still do).

No, being an entrepreneur isn’t fun every day. There’s a lot of repetitive days, like with any job, and there’s a lot of things you’re ‘forced’ to do — because as the owner, no one else can do it for you.

And while it might look like overnight success when you fall on your favorite entrepreneur’s extra curated Instagram — no, it wasn’t overnight success. It’s long days, and night of hard work and sacrifice.

Owning a brand is the most rewarding thing we’ve ever done — but it’s also the hardest (can one really come without the other?).

Your brand doesn’t need to be complicated and over the top to be significant.

Actually, it shouldn’t.

A strong brand is easy to connect with… and for that to happen, it also needs to be easy to understand.

We won’t say it enough: an authentic purpose, a universal story, a clean aesthetic and a consistent experience is what your business needs to become a strong brand that sells! 🌶

We’ve learned it the hard way over time. For your brand to grow, you’ve gotta learn to say NO.

Say no, when a decision doesn’t align with your values.
Say no, when you can feel in your guts that while something looks good on paper, it’s not right long term.
Say no, when it works financially, but doesn’t reflect the vision you have for your brand.
Say no, when a situation sounds great, but the people involved don’t share your standards.

Your brand is the accumulation of all the small decisions you make over time. And sometimes, you’ve gotta put your foot down when something doesn’t feel right. Even if there’s a lot of money involved.

Long-term strategy and decision making is what will make your brand successful in the long run.

We’ve had no money, and we’ve had a lot of money.

When our business was struggling, it was hard - but we were driven as EVER. And the 3 months our business made the most money, we were lost.

We got overwhelmed, and forgot our guiding star in everything since the beginning: our why. Our brand took a hit as we were focused on making our clients, and while we don’t regret, we do regret slowly moving away from what drives us.

Remember - the only way you’ll not only keep growing as a brand, but also as a fulfilled brand owner is by staying true to why you’re in this thing! 🖤
