π£πGOOD MORNING STUDENTS OF EDINBURGH! βοΈπ‘
Voting is STILL open for our Student Elections until 5PM TODAY! So I'm just reaching out to MAKE SURE you have voted. If NOT: you can cast your vote through your MyEd channel or at eusa.ed.ac.uk/elections
Make sure you have YOUR say, because this is YOUR student home. And because this is your home, as your VP Community I want to make sure NO students, especially marginalized students, get taken advantage of by landlords and employers. I will also fight for accessible, sustainable, and cheap transport options across ALL our campuses, I'm going to re-evaluate the student guarantor scheme and university housing scheme, working towards expansion and accessibility of these services, and SO MANY other things.
This just a sliver of what I can do if you vote Amanda #1 for VP Community - you have until 5PM!! π

ππ MY MANIFESTO ππ
It's time to get more local, more sustainable, and make Edinburgh a home for all. Here are my action plans on how to do so and if you have any comments or questions please do get in touch!
Let's get local
π Increase student engagement with local issues through workshops on social issues in Edinburgh to be run by Local MPs or community members/organisations
π Have all Students' Association survey vouchers and giveaways be partnered with local shops
π Create an online platform to amplify and promote local events that are being run outside of the university community
Let's get sustainable
π Make Students' Association buildings a resource for information and space to drop off hard to recycle items such as electronics or furniture
π Create a campaign around sustainable food choice, including a guide and tips on how students can make more local and greener choices
π Expand the zero waste shop and conduct a survey on what students want and need when it comes to making the transition to zero waste
And let's make Edinburgh a home for all
π Start a campaign to get students aware of their tenancy and employment rights to make sure students are not being taken advantage of and have access to safe accommodation and work
π Continue to fight for a rent cap on university student halls and advocate for university builds instead of private housing
π Keep pushing for accessible, cheap and sustainable transport options across campuses
π Reevaulate the student guarantor scheme and university housing scheme, working towards expansion and accessibility of these services
π Encourage more art on campus and advocate for temporary art installations across campuses, with a focus on art that gives a platform to underrepresented student voices
π Create more community events and meet-ups for postgraduate international students
Hi everyone! ππ
Figured I would quickly take a moment to introduce myself.
I'm Amanda and I'm a fourth year International Relations student originally from New Jersey, USA.
During my time at university I've had the pleasure of co-directing a student social enterprise, coordinating a Peer Assisted Learning Scheme, became a social responsibility and sustainability auditor, and have involved myself within lots of (and some would say too many at times) different student and community initiatives.
I have loved being apart of such an incredible city and student body but I know there is SO MUCH that can be done to create a better sense of community.
We are living through a local housing crisis, a global climate catastrophe, on top of juggling the day to day madness that comes with being a student. I want to enable students to tackle all of these issues and to get as much as they can out of their experience being a student and living in Edinburgh. It is for this reason and so so so many more, that I ask for your vote to be your VP Community!
I am so excited to finally announce that I am running for VP Community!
I'm grateful that Edinburgh has truly felt like home since I've been at university and I have been a part of some brilliant student initiatives and societies that have helped foster that feeling.
However, I know there is so much more that can be done when it comes to enriching the relationship students have with the university and wider city community, which is why I want to represent students' voices and fight for positive and lasting change!
Thank you for following this page and look out for my full manifesto!
