Family & Generational Wealth is something that doesn’t get talked much about. But has everything to do with money issues in our society.

My interest on this topic started when I was very young. Enjoy the read!

Financial Literacy: Story 3
Throwback: Early 2023- Farmers At International Trade Show- Nutritious Super Foods For Africa !

Mr Kaseka taught me Commerce. We would do 2 papers; Commercial Studies (Elementary Econs, Marketing, Branding, Bookkeeping, etc, and Commercial Arithmetic. This course was one of those courses many students looked down upon. Anyway, scored a distinction 1.

Attended UNIMA to study arts(story for another day). Soon after enrolled in faculty of commerce Poly (now MUBAS). Did my Postgrad Diploma Business/Management Studies. Later on completed MBA with focus on Financial Literacy for Entrepreneurs.

However I couldn’t get a job in corporate spaces (they said I wasn’t good enough- I don’t believe them at all). The best I could, was to teach at University (Part Time) and go at farm kokalima basi 😂.

My commerce teacher was right. I found where to use those skills. We are building our own tables.

Rejection is God simply redirecting you to your purpose Jeremiah 1 v 5…

Financial Literacy: Story 2

Throwback: Few Years Back…
I got tired of being asked where is a market for our farm produce. I really don’t answer this question. Why? Mostly comes from people thinking in raw materials. we thinking scale…

My opinion has always been we can make our own food products to standard. It starts small… eventually we part of many other great companies feeding Africa. Research and Development and Intellectual Property have power to create wealth.

Just looking at these pictures, reminds me of excruciating pain of developing these in an extremely hostile business environment. However we have to carry on.

We live by principle: No Excuse, Life is not pretty. Do what you can and let God finish the rest.

Financial Literacy: Story 1

Throwback Few Selected Pics: The Plan Was Always To Move Up The Value Chain.

Move Commodities From Various Farming Stations For Storage and Processing and Packaging.

The Margins Are Better and Can Produce (farm) Based on Market Demand.

Found Out My Agriculture Teachers Were Right And I Am The One To Blame. Never Took My Lessons Serious. Most of Stuff We Use We Covered in Primary and Secondary Agriculture, Commerce, Bookeeping, Maths. Great news is I went back to basics.

If I could turn around the clock ⏰ after my secondary school:

I wish I went to study how cut gemstones and design/make jewelry

I wish I learnt how to be a farmer and add value through manufacturing.

I wish I could have taken my acting/music technical and business studies seriously. We were made to be ashamed when studying these. Alas ! Commercial side of acting and music is so lucrative! Proud music and drama graduate.

I wish I could have taken my building, electrical technician and plumbing skills seriously. If choosing again to attend university I would have studied quantity surveying or land economics.

I wish I could have taken my journalism and media studies on how to run media company seriously.

I wish I took my baking skills to another level

I wish I took my commerce passion route earlier

….

I don’t do regrets, I took myself through these in adult life again. I use them everyday to thrive! Don’t listen to Mr. Image below 👇🏻 watch my short video on Mr. Image (Malawi Society) in comments section telling you lies. Break the chains ⛓! Be free!

GOD PUT A SEED IN YOU. HE UNVEILS IT IN TIME:

2016 interview for security guard. Comes a Youngman with his CV.

I looked at it and said, “arghhh! You have good grades for MSCE. I can’t employ you to be looking after these premises.”

You don’t belong here. And he says, “Sir, I really need this job. I came all the way from Mulanje to get a job so I can support myself.” Moved in my heart I replied to him, “I will give you this job on one condition.” Then he says ok, I am listening.

KayMa to Lucius, “If you come to work here, you have go to school.” Thank God he was up for it.

Having a brief chat with him on that interview got me convinced he could handle tertiary work. God just touched my heart and I was convinced there was more to this guy. I offered him the job and on top of his pay, NRC school fees, reference and other letters required. What was important was for him to get in.

After sometime (few semesters in 2018) he called me to say he will manage to pay through one of initiatives he started while working for us. I gave him my blessings.

Then one day (December 2021) I was feeling low and I got a message in my messenger. I am Lucius your ex-security…. Do you remember me? I am in Israel 🇮🇱 doing my school training.

This week, we managed to meet again and he blessed me with his presence. What a surprise! He graduated at LUANAR NRC and he later on went to Israel for more training. Today he purchased his land to build his own home, re-started his transport business, farming on purchased and some rented land.

We discussed visions and dreams and I pray God to establish the works of his hands. He has billionaire growth mindset.

This is what makes me smile 😊, to see others pushing for their God given destiny! I was just a vessel. To God be the glory!

As promised on “House or Business” Story:

I always wanted to end up business after a journey through public, international development and private sector as an employee. But it never occurred as I planned. Interested? Excerpts from my story I shared way back…

“What Went Wrong? During My Private Sector Gig As Employee in Transition to Business.

Capital Budgeting- Project Investment Appraisals in Real World are not like Varsity Assignment Papers:

In 2009 after public and international development, I had agreed milestones and targets for the new firm to hit in Malawi, if successful, then replicate this in Tanzania, Kenya, later on in Nigeria. Completed my Hoshin 360 Business Planning and I was excited with new challenge ahead.

If I pulled this one, by 2015 I was going to have personal assets (100 residential and commercial rental units to start with, then target X amount more units), including sitting on at least $1 Million Fund (to start with), and finally use my investment skills, in investing in other small Start-Ups.

On what was known as big ‘31’ in September for the Holding Company in RSA, the news came, “Kaya this Project is not worthwhile pursuing. It has demonstrated potential, but it’s not going to increase shareholders wealth as we desire. Please Close Shop!…”

The business I dreamt to build crumbled (shattered dreams)… still had one or two personal asset. Had to figure out how to navigate the slippery terrain of being out of formal employment and what new business before returning to my vision.

If you are a heavy risk taker just like me with a family, I say house first (as an asset that gives economic return that can support business), then business if the business is too risky! If not too risky, business then houses. Why? Do you want to drag whole family in your entrepreneurial mess of starting up?

If I was young and single in all circumstances it was going to be business first and fail forward 😉 until I reached my goal.
