And just like that, it’s the last day of school 💜

You’d think after 5 years of teaching, I would have this ‘goodbye thing’ down, but it never gets easier. You spend a whole school year with the most amazing little ones. You teach them all the things, you laugh and joke together, you share your life with them, you get know each of them as individuals, you watch them grow and succeed, you love them unconditionally, and then you have to say goodbye.

To my second graders of the 2023-2024 school year, I am so proud of all you’ve accomplished this year. You have blown me away with your hard work, growth, and success! It has been an honor being your teacher this year. I hope your summer is filled with fun and happiness! I will miss each of you so much. I am always here for you.

May you always love tie-dye and peace signs, and when you see anything GROOVY, I hope you think of that second grade teacher that loved you so much. ✌️ ☮️ 💛

Families, thank you for allowing me to love your babies!

SUMMER VACAY, here we come! ☀️

So proud of my kids for their hard work and determination at today’s Fun Run! What a beautiful and fun morning on Hallsville’s new track and field. 💜💛 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

We also said goodbye to our cadet teacher today, Miss Emily. We surprised her with letters from each student, pictures, gifts, and advice for her when she goes to college. Some examples included, “Don’t skip class. Be nice to your roommates. Work hard. Go to football games!” We are so excited for her new journey at Mizzou in the fall! MIZ 💛🖤🐯

Pizza in the Park is TOMORROW! Be ready for some fun!

I just can’t believe it’s THIS time of year again. Tie-dyeing shirts in Miss Arnold’s class means the ending is near 🥹 Such a bittersweet feeling. Miss A will be very busy the next few days getting these beautiful masterpieces ready for a big tie-dye reveal on the last day of school! ❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜🩷☮️✌️

3rd graders in training 🫡

Our HPS second graders had the amazing opportunity to walk to the Intermediate School this morning! They were greeted by a familiar face, assistant principal Mrs. Terry, where they were led to the Intermediate cafeteria. The students got to meet their new counselor, Mrs. Campos, who spoke to them about her job as their counselor next year. Our students also got to tour the Intermediate School, and then they had the chance to see a 3rd grade classroom! Third grade teacher, Mrs. Imhoff invited our groovy class into her classroom, and she gave a presentation about all things 3rd grade. Our second graders also had recess on their playground next year.

This is always such a bittersweet time of year. We love doing this with our second graders to help make the transition to their new school a little easier. It’s getting real now! 🥹 The end of the school year is here, and this teacher isn’t ready to say goodbye to these sweet students. I know my students are all destined for great things! 💜💛💜💛

HAPPY GLOW DAY!!! ✨💚💛💚💛✨

Black lights + glow sticks + glow stations + glow math + firefly crafts + tic-tac-glow, + a glow dance party = BEST DAY EVER!

My students have been talking about Glow Day since the beginning of the year! Although this is a tradition in Miss Arnold’s class, my students earn glow day by earning class points for being safe, respectful, and responsible. These amazing students of mine earned every second of this best day ever! We had a BLAST! It always puts tears in my eyes watching my students walk into their classroom on Glow Day! The excitement is what it’s all about! 🥰

I also have to mention the gratefulness of my students today. I can’t even count how many times each student expressed their gratitude by telling me ‘thank you’ for putting on such a special day for them. As a teacher, you always hope your students learn all the academics, but it really hits you in the heart when you teach them to be good humans, and I definitely have the very best little humans! Thank you, my sweet second graders for making my first day of Teacher Appreciation week one to remember. I love my babies and the memories we make!

My students enjoyed every second of sharing their love for reading this week. Thank you to our wonderful Title Reading teachers, Mrs. Myers and Mrs. Bradshaw for yet another successful Reading Week this year! 💜💛

The leprechaun came!

Photos from Miss Arnold's Class's post 15/03/2024

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! (2 days early) ☘️

In honor of the holiday, students in Miss Arnold’s class learned the history of St. Patrick’s Day and the legend of the leprechaun. They learned about ways to lure and catch one, and in their groups, they brainstormed and designed their own traps to display around the classroom in hopes to catch a sneaky fellow for themselves!

O’Reilly the leprechaun has been making his appearance in Miss Arnold’s class for years. I thought for SURE we’d catch him this year with these incredibly clever traps, but he got away once more. He made a BIG mess in room 674, but he left us treats and gold coins to share!

Here are some pictures of the kids in leprechaun trap making action! I sure do LOVE the magic. 🪤✨☘️💚

I love rewarding my students for great behavior! My kids have been working so hard to earn the letters: BOARD GAMES! Last week, they earned their last letter and had the opportunity to bring in their favorite board games to school today. My students loved this reward and enjoyed sharing their favorite games with their classmates this afternoon!

We’re ready to show off our KC Chiefs spirit next week!! Join us for some from fun dress up days!

We learned a new game in math today called Beat the Calculator! The purpose of this game is to be so quick with our math facts that we beat the person using the calculator. Mastering these quick addition and subtraction problems without using our fingers or number grid to count is an essential piece to 2nd grade curriculum. Once students develop mastery of these facts, they will be ready to learn multiplication and division when they get to higher grade levels!

How cool is this?!

Merry Christmas to my GROOVY 2nd graders! We celebrated today with lots of fun crafts, SO many treats, a Christmas reading share with other second graders, holiday BINGO, and lots of love and laughs.

We have made so many memories as a class already this year. I am very proud of my students’ hard work, but I’m especially proud of their kindness. We welcomed a new student into our groovy classroom this week. He is already making new friends, as we welcomed him with open arms. We now have a classroom filled with 23 amazing students!

At the end of the day today, I made the joke to my class that I was so sad to say that I wouldn’t see them again until next year. With puzzled and worried looks in their eyes, they all came running to give me a big group hug. I did finally explain to them the joke. Their teacher is too funny! 🤣

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I am so thankful for my sweet babies and will be looking forward to reuniting in 2024!

Welcome to our Classroom Holiday Workshop! This month in second grade social studies, my little elves have been learning all about economics. We have been diving deep on the terms goods and services, wants vs. needs, producers and consumers, and supply and demand. This week, we put what we’ve learned into practice! The students were introduced to our Holiday Workshop and had the opportunity to submit a job application to me about which job they were most interested and WHY they would be a good fit for this job. My kids were SO excited to become the producers of their holiday “goods,” and you bet, they are getting PAID for their hard work and “service!” We’ve got Holiday Card Creators, Glitter Pine Cone Decorators, Reindeer Ornament Makers, Paper Chain Decorators, and Scratch Ornament Designers. At the end of the workshop, the kids will put their “goods” on display and will have the opportunity to become the “consumers” and purchase the holiday goods they have created this week using the money they earned. These sweet smiles say it all!

Pictures from our Friday afternoon spent at the Charles Morgenthaler house in Hallsville. The students were amazed walking into a house built in 1837. They enjoyed learning about Hallsville’s famous painter, Charles Morgenthaler. This mini field trip paired perfectly with our current social studies unit of comparing the past to the present!

Thank you, Mrs. Briedwell for hosting us and for going above and beyond for Hallsville students, even after retirement!

We had chicken care duty this week! The students loved having the responsibility of refilling the food and water, and they especially enjoyed checking the coop to see if the hens had laid eggs! We collected a total of 6 eggs this week, so I decided to incorporate it into a science exploration! On Thursday, my students learned about the different parts of the egg. They practiced labeling each part during a cut-and-paste activity so they knew what to look for when the egg was broken on a paper plate. The kids used toothpicks to identify the different parts. However, I think they enjoyed swishing and mixing the yolk and egg white together using their toothpicks most of all! 🤣

We are so grateful to have our own chickens here at HPS. It teaches students responsibility and makes for a FUN science lesson, as well! We loved chicken duty and hope we get the chance to do it again in the future. 🐓💜💛

This morning, the class got to meet their kindergarten buddies in Mrs. Ziervogel’s class! These second grade role models got to help the kindergarteners with a craft that went along with a book they have been reading called, “The Meanies Came to School”. It was amazing seeing my students lead their kindergarten friends. They were kind, helpful, and showed leadership throughout the time spent with their new buddies.

Thank you, Mrs. Z for having us today! We can’t wait to host your kindergarteners in our 2nd grade classroom next month!

It was another wonderful week in 2nd grade! Here’s some snapshots of my students playing a game they learned in math this week called “Fishing for 10”. It’s just like Go Fish, except they look for matches of numbers that add together to equal 10. 🎣

Have a GROOVY weekend!
