As part of efforts in making Greater Accra to work again, the Tema West Municipal Assemblyundertook a demolition exercise behind Chrisbury, an area within the Kotobabi-market enclaveyesterday.

It would be recollected that, fire engulfed the area under demolition a month back--afterwhich the Assembly intervened and cleared the space for development. However, theencroachers went back to reclaim the land area and started putting up structures.

It should be put on record that, during the demolishing exercise; the encroachers who had already been notified about the exercise woke up that day armed to the teeth and wieldedbottles obstructed the exercise from happening.

The angry encroachers ended up attacking theMunicipal task force together with the works engineer present, in a fierce manner amid burningof car tyres and other items.

In our bid to restore calmness; the Assembly called on the Batsona District Command, OfficerElvis Sadongo. However, due to the severity of the attack; the District Command further calledon the regional and national command for reinforcement.

The security forces in their numbers tried to calm down the situation. But, in the heat of themoment, one resident died leaving two injured.

The situation is now under control.
We wish to assure the general public that, the matter is being handled by the Police and theAssembly.

Let's all come together to make Greater Accra work again.
